Blissful oceanfront resort near Hoi An, with lantern-lit infinity pools and split-level villas with alfresco showers
The Nam Hai’s award-winning architecture is based partly on an emperor's tomb and partly on a traditional Vietnamese garden house — an extremely opulent garden house. The serene all-villa retreat is pure Zen. Villas are surrounded by lush gardens studded with towering palm trees, and each is equipped with a private patio and outdoor shower overlooking the South China Sea. Just as blissful is the spa, a sanctuary set on a lagoon that's filled with lotus flowers and light pouring in through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Bed and Bath
All 100 villas have floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, four-poster canopy beds, writing desks and sunken bathtubs. The split-level setup raises the bed and other lounging areas for even better views of the South China Sea, and there are alfresco bathrooms and large patios to soak up views of the surrounding gardens. Turn-down here is taken to another level: The staff lights oversize candles in the bedroom and delivers homemade almond cookies.
Three terraced infinity pools lead down to the ocean and are lit by hundreds of twinkling lanterns at night. Golf carts are on hand to navigate the sizable resort; staff whisks guests between the lobby, restaurant, gym and spa. The sublime spa is set on its own lagoon, and treatments start with a serving of ginger lemongrass tea followed by a footbath. Don't miss the signature treatment: the Nam Hai Jade Massage, a four-hand affair in which two smiling therapists work in a synchronized fashion. On the food front, the Dining Room restaurant serves innovative Vietnamese fare alongside an impressive wine list of 6,000 bottles, and the beach restaurant is a laid-back eatery with a seafood-heavy menu served from an open kitchen.
