For laid-back living in Southern France’s Languedoc-Roussillon region, it doesn’t get better than Pézenas – the charismatic medieval town that was once home to French playwright, actor and comedy genius Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, otherwise known as Molière. And the setting for this chic hideaway couldn’t be more on-point either; just short distance from the historic centre.
Housed in a former distillery that was cleverly converted into a hotel in 2012, there’s plenty here to please. Facilities include an inviting outdoor pool with sun loungers, gorgeous Mediterranean gardens, and well-appointed spa complete with indoor pool, Jacuzzi, hammam, and lovely rooms for top-to-toe treatments with organic oils and wild herbs.
For those who like their rustic-chic accommodation spiced up with a little boutique glamour, each of the uniquely-styled guest rooms assures rich red hues that pay tribute to the building’s wine-making past. And the food’s just as impressive, with an ever-changing menu of bistro-style Mediterranean and regional dishes that’s expertly paired with local Languedoc wines.
How to Get There
This was our second visit to this lovely hotel. We upgraded and got a suite in the attic - sloping roof with beams could be a problem for some, but us shorties managed fine. The décor is lovely - understated and shabby chic. Small kitchen area and lounge so big you could host a small party in it. Fabulous views across surrounding countryside, although this hotel is a 2 minute walk from all that medieval Pezenas has to offer. Plenty of parking places.
Comfortable beds with bedside lights that don't blind you when you switch them on. Air con absolutely great, although maybe could do with calibrating - ours was fine on 24 Celsius, but when turned down to 18 for night time the place was like the Arctic. VERY quiet (hooray!)
There is a Spa (didn't use)and a small pool (not really big enough for more than 4 people or for swimming lengths).
Breakfast plentiful and varied. There is a nice bar, a lounge and several outside terraces. Staff courteous and friendly. We'll be back. Again.
3rd time back over the years - love hotel and the town
Good breakfast buffet - small pool but nice little garden around it
Town is a short stroll away and very nice.
Hotel is good value 4 star functional luxurious
Good hotel with friendly helpful staff in a great location. food and drink good too. We had a 2 bedroom apartment which was clean, spacious and well equipped - if you wanted to eat in - but with 100 restaurants to choose from there was no need. The Bistro downstairs had a range of menus at good prices and the wine was sensibly priced.
Great find and superb location if you are in this area. Forget about all the other hotels folks this little gem, well it is not so little, but this place is awesome!!! If you are looking for somewhere that has a bit of everything then this is it.
All rooms have a small kitchen facility in them with a microwave, fridge and sink. Spacious and airy (we had a nice balcony view) but you also have a great bar and restaurant so it works for most people who want to either have something light in there room or have some food from the restaurant. Would highly recommend this hotel folks.
it's a really perfect place for lovers, there's a beautiful shabby chic decoration, it's a very athypical
the distillery gives a real soul to this building, they good tips about the city, there's a kind of magic to walk along the canals...
