How to Get There
Halii Kai is such a special place. The condos are very comfortable and nicely spread out with plenty of outdoor space between the units. The landscaping is impecable and you can tell a lot of care has been put into making the grounds so beautiful. Our favorite part of Halii Kai, however, is the beautiful pool and the welcoming atmosphere that the staff there creates. We have been coming for years and always love seeing Kathy and Saphyre. They both have a perfect balance of casual aloha spirit and professionalism. They help us to feel relaxed and at the same time completely taken care of. We really appreciate how they remember us and make us feel at home every time we come. Daniel recently joined as a bartender, and he also has a kind, mellow and professional vibe that seems to be a great addition. It is really unique to have a vacation where you feel like you are visiting friends every year and Kathy and Saphyre at the Ocean Club really feel that way. Having a beautiful pool, restaurant and bar all with the comforts of a condo community is really rare and we are so happy to have found Halii Kai!
Halii Kai is a perfect resort for people who like a quieter place to stay. It is our favorite place on the Big Island. We have stayed in many of the units over the years and they all have their own unique charm. The pool area is beautiful and the walk along the ocean to the Hilton for a coffee in the morning has always been a favorite activity. Halii Kai is walking distance to A beach and there is a gorgeos walk to a black sand beach that we always enyoy as well.
I searched many vacation rentals online, but kept coming back to Hali'i Kai. The resort is beatiful, and also very quiet.
Our suite was spacious and very well maintained. It was stocked with some staples (e.g. coffee, rice, condiments) too. The closet contained board games, beach things, and even some good books to read. I loved sitting on the lanai in the late afternoon.
The pool area was gorgeous (though could use more shady areas). The water was the perfect temperature and the views were amazing!
Tips: pick up some groceries (or order in advance) before you arrive. We arrived late at night and the onsite restaurant doesn't open until 11 am.
We stayed here with our two young kids and parents. We had rented out a 3 BR 2 bath apartment. Very nice resort but with limited facilities. One bad thing is that there is no beach attached to this place. It has its own pool and pool side cafe. The cafe was surprisingly good for the food but okay for the drinks. Apartments are fully furnished with a functional kitchen. We did make our own dinner as my parents have food restrictions. Definitely a repeat for us. Very limited restaurant options in the surrounding neighborhood.
We just returned from our visit to the Big Island and stayed at Hali’i Kai in Unit 21C.
My first reaction was that this is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed. The condo was gorgeous and extremely well appointed. The owner literally thought of everything down to the smallest detail. We were really pleased as we booked this through Costco Travel.
The check in was a breeze and I really enjoyed chatting with Megan. She was someone who I could definitely be friends with if I lived in Hawaii.
The only drawback is that the location is a little remote and if you plan to go to Kona, you have to take a two lane highway that takes about 40 minutes to an hour depending on traffic.
If you plan to stay in Waikoloa and enjoy the amenities and surrounding area, then this could be the perfect paradise for you.
