Clean, comfortable, and nice location
Reviewed 1 day ago

Our condo was privately owned, so there were a lot of personal effects, as well as coolers, beach mats, boogie boards, noodles, and many kitchen items. We had "garden view," as there isn't an ocean view option, however, we weren't there much, so the views weren't really an issue. Front office/reception staff were gracious and helpful. The unit was extremely clean and the king bed in the master bedroom was extremely comfortable. Waikoloa is a nice resort area, and is positioned nicely to go north, south, or east across the Big Island. We were out seeing the Big Island every waking hour, so as I already mentioned, we weren't there much... but I was super happy and satisfied with the accommodations. We would definitely stay there again.

Amazing resort. Perfect for couples and families. With some apartments being privately owned, most come with extra facilities like body boards, tennis rackets, beach chairs, books etc. Perfect location. Well equipped. Beach club is great with amazing views. Staff members are very friendly. Go and see Saphire, Cheryl and the team. Great cocktails!

Fabulous Place

Great place to stay, close to the airport (20 mins drive) and shops/ restaurants ( 7 mins drive)
We stayed in 15B via VBRO which was the perfect apartment - 2 bedrooms, ocean view, ground floor, very private and with a shaded car port.
The whole place is beautiful, clean and immaculate
The front desk could do with being a bit more on the ball - you may need to promot them for a map of the resort and a parking permit.
The club house, pool and gym are all perfect - lovely location and done very well, good food, ice cold beer and perfect sunset view
Beware the bartender - on the smug, unhelpful side, but he does freeze the beer glasses which is a nice touch
I’d definitely stay again and the island is amazing
Go to see the lava fields and petroglyphs if you can - they are accessed at Kings Shops just at the far side of the petrol station.

Rude and unpleasant staff made for uncomfortable stay

Booked through Costco after the volcano eruption caused our national park lodging to be closed. While we knew it was a condo unit, the 'resort' was listed as just that - a resort. I'd classify this as more of a neighborhood with a pretty pool. Our unit itself wasn't bad. What makes me rate the property poorly is the staff. We arrived at 9 pm and the office was closed. We stumbled upon one staff member who told us there was no way we could check in and we 'might as well go get a room at the Hilton next door". When pressed by my husband, the employee did have a phone number for the manager. The manager herself was pleasant. We slept in our car while she spent an hour getting a code to our unit so we could get into our room. Both employee and manager insisted that I had misplaced the email from Costco with our unit number, code and checkin information. I called Costco in the morning and they had never received that information. Costco contacted Halii Kai and their staff realized they had sent the information to the wrong address. So Costco never received it to send it to me.

I stopped by the office to get towels after hearing back from Costco. I mentioned what Costco had told me and expressed my concern that such a simple error could leave travelers stranded with nowhere to stay. I was told "well you're here now so you should just get over it".

Aside from the rude staff, we found that the pool bar and restaurant weren't open during the posted hours because 'we don't have anyone around to work today'. Customer service isn't on the radar here at all. This isn't how a 'resort' is staffed or run.

We never heard back from the manager after our night time debacle. One would think she would have heard about the typo that caused us to never get our check in information. Honestly, a simple "Have a mai tai on the house for your troubles" would have resulted in a completely different review, but the bar probably wouldn't have been open anyway.

Unit 20A...PERFECT!!!

First of all, I have to say that the beauty and location of this property is absolutely amazing! The front desk agent was so very helpful and hospitable, which started our visit off perfectly! Our unit was available for check in a few hours earlier than usual, and upon checking in, this Villa was absolutely amazing. The cool comfort of the air conditioning, along with the huge size of the Villa itself, was just what we needed for our family Summer staycation. The kitchen was large, making it very easy to cook the meals we wanted...along with just about every dish, cup, glass, and utensil you would ever need. The formal dining room was also large enough to comfortably seat our family, and the living room itself was perfect and cozy. The oversized balcony made for a perfect outdoor relaxation spot as well. The master bedroom was enormous, and the master bathroom as well...and the second bedroom with its king size bed was more than enough space for our son to enjoy. Everything worked and functioned perfectly, and all of the decor and appointments to this Villa are new and modern. These folks really thought of everything! Big screen smart TV in the living room and bedrooms, Wi-Fi and internet access, and even board games which we enjoyed as a family. Extras also included boogie boards, snorkeling gear, even cleaning supplies, soaps, detergents, etc.! Although this unit isn't Oceanfront, that was the least of our concerns because we spent enough time at the ocean itself... But maybe some folks might want that Ocean View and sunsets as the day winds down, but we were totally satisfied with this unit. Furthermore, the price difference for our unit versus an Oceanfront Villa, was quite significant and we were very happy with that! I strongly recommend this Resort as well as this particular Villa, and when we return, we hope this same unit 20A will be available. What a great vacation!!!
