About a 90-minute drive from New Delhi, this restful retreat is a popular weekend escape thanks to its stellar amenities and proximity to Damdama Lake for boating and adventure sports. Set on 20 leafy acres, the hotel features bold, contemporary artwork, midcentury-style furniture and gigantic floor-to-ceiling windows. The 78 rooms and suites are done in a soothing green and taupe color scheme, with polished woods and black lacquered furniture, and all feature generous private decks or balconies. The contemporary bathrooms come with egg-shaped washbasins, gray slate walls and glass cubicle rain showers. Enjoy sweeping garden views and an international menu at Buzz, or dine on modern Chinese fare in Sian’s intimate, softly lit dining room. Try a relaxing ayurvedic massage at the state-of-the-art spa or relax with a glass of bubbly at the space age cocktail lounge, Swirl.
In the Area
Damdama Lake is a playground for Delhi’s jet set. Weekenders chase adrenaline highs with adventure sports like parasailing, bungee jumping and hot air ballooning; or you can simply bask in the sun on the lake’s grassy banks. For a health boost, ask your concierge about planning a trip to the natural hot springs in the nearby town of Sohna. The sulphurous waters are said to have mystical and medicinal qualities, especially during a solar or lunar eclipse. There are loads of shopping options nearby, too; for high-quality saris, carpets and baskets, make a beeline for Surajkund Crafts Mela. Some of the region’s finest craftsmen come here to sell their wares.
How to Get There
I visited TAJ GATEWAY ON THE HOLI FESTIVAL WITH MY FAMILY , and I got the worst hospitality ever for a taj property . It’s so ill managed . I can enlist end number of things . Food in buffet was so pathetic , even a road side dhaba food is more fresh . the food presentation was such that u can’t recognise whether it’s a veg dish or a non veg dish . . Then in high tea the sandwiches were stale aloo sandwiches and when we asked the staff to serve us fresh , they told us that these ones are the ones made already and they can’t prepare anything else for us , secondly it seems the hotel is on cost cutting spree . There are no room slippers in the room , bed sheets are stinking , rooms are unclean , staff is short compared to such a huge property , when we called the housekeeping they told us it will take -30 mins for the staff to come to our room as all staff are busy attending other guests . I don’t think this kind of service is expected from a taj hotel . I would seriously recommend other people not to spoil there trip Coming here . I really had a bad time .
The resort is in the middle of nowhere and is perfect for a getaway from the city. Large well manicured lawns provide an instant soothe to the eyes. They have an impressive range of sports facilities (and flood lights to play at night) - cricket, football, zip line, tennis, badminton, basketball, volleyball. And equally impressive adventure sports - cycling, rope bridge, Rock climbing, ATVs, paint ball, shooting etc. I was travelling with small kids and they have a kids area with mini golf, TT, pool table, air hockey, carrom, two outdoor play areas and of course the swimming pool. So the kids could go enjoy themselves and we could have our own relaxation. Wife tried out the spa and liked it. The rooms are large and spacious. The small drawback is that all your meals need to be at the resort so you may want to chose a package that includes the meals. There are enough choices at the breakfast and dinner buffet to make everyone happy though the quality of food and the presentation could be elevated by a couple of notches. All in all a good place to take a 2-3 day break.
I spent entire day at Taj with my wife , and staff was very courteous and helpful, it’s a perfect gateway for weekends,Front office staff and rooms service was quick and responsive, I recommend people if you are looking for a family day out it’s best.
