In the Area
Damdama Lake is a playground for Delhi’s jet set. Weekenders chase adrenaline highs with adventure sports like parasailing, bungee jumping and hot air ballooning; or you can simply bask in the sun on the lake’s grassy banks. For a health boost, ask your concierge about planning a trip to the natural hot springs in the nearby town of Sohna. The sulphurous waters are said to have mystical and medicinal qualities, especially during a solar or lunar eclipse. There are loads of shopping options nearby, too; for high-quality saris, carpets and baskets, make a beeline for Surajkund Crafts Mela. Some of the region’s finest craftsmen come here to sell their wares.
How to Get There
To start with...
Four of us entered for lunch and none was interested in even looking at us. We kept standing thinking someone would assist. Finally after 2-3 mins I asked the staff member standing 2 feet from me that is there someone who could tell us about seating. He seemed not at all interested. We asked if we could get seating outside, where one table was kept with 2 chairs. He said if we keep two more chairs they will not fit. And after saying this he turned his back and went to computer... At this point we were like totally shocked. I asked him to call the food and beverage manager specifically. After 2 minutes someone came and without even asking anything from us, started saying that the area we wanted to be seated was a smoking area, but had no explanation for whatever we had faced.
To mention that this thing never came up before this. And it was we who were to decide whether we were comfortable there or not !
Then I asked him to call the hotel manager so that we could ask whether they wanted us to stay there or not !!!
15 minutes passed and no-one came. Meanwhile they put a table outside and gave food menu. I asked if they had something to drink and the steward remembered they had a drinks menu too !!! We called the main reception on landline and explained the issue. After 5 minutes a person came. He introduced himself as restaurant manager. He said he was really sad that we had to face this kind of experience. We decided to not have food in restaurant and order in room. We walked out and there was no restaurant staff there. The person from the front desk, who was to show us rooms was the only person there. Suddenly we were introduced to another person (Gaurav Sharma) who gave us a card and told that he was the food and beverage manager !!! It was 45 minutes since the issue started and I had asked for the food and beverage manager specifically. Look at the attention they pay at their guests. He did not have a speck of remorse about whatever had happened.
So we went to room.
Food arrived after 10 minutes. And the innovative restaurant team surprised us by not giving serving spoons to serve any of the 4 dishes we had ordered !!!!
Food was okay.
Then in evening we thought to order something. Went through their menu and decided a combo meal box. We called on eat in number and no-one picked. We called main desk and arranged a call back from restaurant !!!
We told that we wanted fried fish mentioned in their menu in meal box. And we were told that they did not have fried fish. Only grilled fish was available. We called the food and beverage manager to ask what all was not available, so that we could decide and order. He said he will get back in a minute.
Meanwhile we got a call from restaurant that the " the chef had agreed to prepare the fried fish". Food and beverage manager called back to make a point that we were not explaining properly and that anyway he had arranged fried fish for us. What a generous effort !!!
So overall they put all efforts to screw the experience. We wasted our time and money there. Kindly don't waste yours.
The strangest thing was at no point we felt that they had realised where things went wrong. Everyone was just trying to shut us down with some or the other rubbish explanation.
The property is huge and has multiple activities. It is great for leisure and has good food optionsThe high tea with a langakawa dance and bonfire was really good, they had bonfire too.If ordering for in room service make sure that you confirm with the chef what all ingredients they would put as they tend to miss out the major details and inturn your food would be remade but again with bad ingredients!
Property is great - big as well as interesting enough to keep one occupied for the weekend. Evening activities were fun. Rooms are spacious and beautifully put together. The staff is courteous. Service at the restaurant needs to pick up the pace.
nice place to relax and chill. nice stay and service. awesome food. natural surroundings and activities to do. if you dont want to be limited to a room only, then its a must try place. large rooms and good interiors.
Had a chance to visit Gateway resort for a day. The resort is built in the middle of the farm lands and the approach really makes doubtful if you are heading for the right direction. But within its beautifully maintained. Nice open resort with lots of green areas just exactly the thing you need when want to break away from Delhi traffic.
The rooms are nice and spacious though I will not call them luxurious. The breakfast is very nice and the menu is extensive.
This property reminded me of one of the resorts I had visited in Jim Corbett.
All in all a good package and recommended for weekend getaways without going too far from the city
