Marina-facing Montauk sleep, with a laid-back vibe, nautical look, spa and kid-friendly water sports

The Look

Once a private club with an A-list membership that included the Vanderbilts, today the Montauk Yacht Club is a family-friendly beach escape at the tip of Long Island. The resort is still a draw for serious yachters, but it has equal appeal for couples seeking an idyllic stroll along the ocean or an evening on a private porch. Interiors embrace the nautical theme with gusto, favoring a palette of navy blue and white, framed classic yacht photos and sailing-inspired ornaments.

Bed and Bath

Individual villas are located along the wooden boardwalk and have private terraces and balconies with water views, plus a separate pool area. All 107 guestrooms, villas and suites have received recent face-lifts that respect the property’s history and nautical vibe but also incorporate the modern amenities travelers expect. Bathrooms are simply done up with white tiles, baths with over-tub showerheads and the property’s own bath products.

The main focus is, of course, the water and families and friends can partake in surf lessons, stand-up paddleboarding, sunset paddling on Lake Montauk and kayak tours. The oceanside location means that fresh seafood and creative dining are a big part of the allure, and the manor-style restaurant, the Gulf Coast Kitchen, serves comfort food with unique twists. The indoor/outdoor Hurricane Alley, which has a casual, Florida Keys fish shack vibe, is the perfect place to snack on fresh crab cakes benedict.

In the Area

Take advantage of the seaside location and test your wave-riding skills during a two-hour group surf clinic, or try your hand at paddleboarding (on offer Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer). The more adventurous can learn how to kitesurf during a half- or full-day class with an expert instructor. Or opt for some pampering in the hotel’s spa — we love the foot treatment with a raw sugar and tangerine–infused jojoba scrub. And if you’re inspired by all the nautical decor, charter one of three boats (Masterpiece Charters, My Mate or Hattrick) right from the Montauk Yacht Club Marina.

Really rich in history and tradition

Really rich in history and tradition, Gurney's Star Island Resort & Marina! Amazing waterfront property at the East End of Long Island, New York where it has been the preferred playground for a who’s who of visitors since famed entrepreneur Carl Fisher built the original clubhouse.

Wedding venue

We stayed here as guests for a wedding. The room was suitable for a short stay as the room is not too big but pleasant. We had 2 double beds with a veranda that opened up to access the beach. Maybe not suitable for families with young children as your watching them at all times that they don’t escape. Also the balcony is not private therefore you need to keep the doors closed.
Customer service at the front desk should also be addressed to be a little more empathetic to hotel guests; we had an incident that we resolved ourselves with no help from the front desk.

Stunning views, luxurious beachy rooms

Came for a family wedding on site and it was so fun to have everyone staying on site too. Hotel is beautiful resort feel, with pool, firepit, and fantastic views of the ocean (location is literally on the water with docks stretching out). Golf carts can take you to the various wings, but everything seemed to be connected internally as well. We enjoyed coffee at the bar in the morning, too but did not get to try out the full breakfast. Staff were very kind and accommodating. The rooms were bright and airy, with balconies facing the water, very comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms, and stylish beach furnishings. Only con is that the rooms (at least in our wing) are arranged in quads (2 rooms up 5 stairs, 2 rooms down 5 stairs) and some noise can travel between the rooms/from outside. Was fine for us with the family wedding but others may be more sensitive to this.

A great stay and I'm sure it's even better (but probably more busy) in the summer--highly recommend!

A Perfect Wedding

Our daughter was married at the Montauk Yacht Club last weekend and it was perfect. We had everything at the MYC - the rehearsal dinner - wedding - reception - brunch. Our guests were so happy to spend the weekend at this lovely spot and they had fun exploring Montauk. Kaitlyn and the entire staff were wonderful to work with and very responsive to our needs. We couldn't be happier. The photos are fabulous!

Amazing Wedding Weekend

Our daughter got married at Gurney's Montauk Yacht Club during the first nor'easter (10/27/18) of the season and I have to say it worked out perfectly! We had planned an outdoor ceremony but due to weather had to have it in the Ballroom. It was magical and intimate taking place in front of the fireplace. Kaitlyn, Bretlin & staff did an excellent job from start to finish and we couldn't have been more pleased.
