How to Get There
Island resort restaurants tend to be uninteresting so we didn’t have high expectation before arriving.
However, Edition Sanya did surprise us with a number of original and interesting f&b offering. One of them we really like is Barbacoa, a Balinese concept serving up delicious food. Its definitely worth trying even if you don’t stay there.
Secondly, their all day dining restaurant Market has some nice ideas too. When we were there, they have hotpot night serving up great seafood, meat and loads of nice small dishes.
Room wise, their amenities are real nice and bed super comfy so its worth a visit.
My girlfriend and I took a last minute trip to Sanya, and wow - are we glad we did!
What an amazing property. We did not feel the need to leave once! Our room was great; we were disappointed that all the villas were already booked by the time we planned our stay so we took a suite instead. It was very clean and stylish and it had a large daybed on its balcony.
Generally, I think the design of this hotel is very catered to social media platforms such as Instagram. There are a lot of nooks and crannies that are laid out to be perfect spots for taking pictures. The hotel seems to be aiming to appeal to the Instagram crowd as, when we were there, there was an event for influencers hosted there.
Nevertheless, the service was great, the food was amazing and the atmosphere was relaxed yet luxurious. We spent most of the day at the various pools at the property. There is even a fake beach, recreated since the tide is too heavy for people to swim in the actual ocean.
I highly recommend this hotel if you want a scenic beach getaway with great food and good service.
Sanya is situated in the Southern end of China in the Hainan Island. The Bay is dotted with all leading hotels and provides for a beautiful, relaxed and lazy holiday. The Sanya Edition hotel is located on this beach and is one of the new properties to have come up. It provides 400 well appointed rooms, 5 swimming pools (one on the terrace along with the Sky Bar), a water body for kayaking, etc, and an artificial lagoon with salt water to laze in. The hotel is spread over 50 acres and boasts of a massive kids play area which also includes crashing cars and a Toy train. The hotel also offers private villas with plunge pools. There isn't much to do outside the hotel apart from a local grocery mall and a luxury shopping arcade. But rest assured, once you're inside the property, you wouldn't want to step out. Local sight seeing options are limited and thus the need to venture out also is not so much.
There are four restaurants, a sky bar, two lawns for events, a fantastic free WiFi service, fitness centre and spa.
There are a few places of interest which you can go to, including Monkey Island, Nanshan Temple, Butterfly Valley and Nantian Hot Springs.
This place is a great vacation spot for Honeymooners, family or business even. To get there one has to fly through Hong Kong.
I don’t usually write reviews, but we had such an unforgettable stay in this resort during the Easter holiday that I’ve got to share here. We’ve been staying in many kid friendly resorts such as JW Marriott Phuket and Shangri-la Cebu, the Sanya Edition wows me with its great staff, in particular Stephanie, Chef I Made, executive Chef Jordi and F&B manager Helen!
We were upgraded to the loft room, it’s very trendy and it’s huge! One massive round bath tub in the bathroom and literally fit our entire family of four! Plus a spacious terrace where also has a deep tub big enough for two.
My kids 7 and 3, love the fact that there is a bunny house and loved play with the bunnies daily. The kids pool is great, and very safe, we pretty much spend most of our time there. Facility is very good, my kids enjoyed the rock climbing, kayaking and the little train ride. The train driver is a young man and took good care of the kids and always has a smile on his face.
The F&B team is legendary! While in the pool whole day, our kids didn’t like the pool side menu and Stephanie arranged the kids pizza delivered from their other restaurant and directly to our poolside chairs. One afternoon the young coconuts run out when we ordered it, so we ordered different drinks instead, no issue on our end. But when we showed up for our dinner, the staff brought us 4 complimentary young coconuts to try to make it up for us. We felt like having a butler service here, with a great personal touch.
On the last morning, we were rushed to finish our breakfast to go back packing, but my 3 year old was making a fuss as she wanted to go to see the bunnies one last time. We didn’t have much time and couldn’t make it. Helen saw us and came to ask why my little girls is crying. I told her the story and guess what? She called her colleague immediately and get one of the staff dressed up in a rabbit costume, showed up in front of the restaurant. What’s more, minutes later, someone showed up from the golf car with the real bunny in hand, my little girl was over the moon!
I’ve seldom experienced the kind of personal service to this level, and it’s from top down and through out. We’ve made friends in Edition and would highly recommend this place.
Haitang Bay Area is quite far from everything and not much to do except staying in the resort. But my family could happily stay 7 days there. My kids didn’t want to leave!
We will be back!
P.S. the Balinese beach side restaurant is my fav. Authentic and delicious Balinese food. My compliments to Head Chef I Made.
I stayed a week in this hotel as I was attending a conference in a nearby hotel. I don’t regret that choice, this hotel is so tranquil, relaxing, peaceful and friendly. The personnel is very friendly and willing to help, my room was very spacious and ceiling height must have been more than 3,5 meter. I used the gym quite a lot, there were several cardio machines and some basic gym equipment including barbells. The heaviest was only 20kg had a Smith machine as well.
The rooftop bar and pool was great, with stunning views. The market restaurant provided a good selection and well cooked dishes, both Asian classics and western food. I can recommend the Thai chicken curry. I also tried the Barbacoa restaurant by the sea, it was very good too, and the chef there is so friendly and caring for his customers.
I hope I’ll return to Sanya and EDITION in the future.
