Serene sleep between Sanya's mountains and coastline with a lagoon-style pool and a private beach

The Lowdown

Set in verdant grounds between Sanya’s inland mountain range and the coast, the Pullman Sanya Yalong Bay Resort & Spa is a serene sleep with a free shuttle to one of Hainan’s best beaches. Built around a lagoon-style pool, the public areas and villas have traditional Thai wooden roofs. The One-Bedroom Villas are inspired by decor from Myanmar and Nanyang and are spacious at 1,614 square feet. They feature a private garden, an outdoor massage area, an indoor Jacuzzi and a separate living room. Opt for a Majestic Villa for a private pool. The Deluxe Rooms (452 to 516 square feet) offer plenty of space and come with well-appointed bathrooms with tubs and rainfall and hydromassage showers. Le Spa offers Thai and Chinese massages, plus beauty treatments in a peaceful setting. There’s also a fitness center and an 18-hole golf course close by. Two bars and Rive Gauche, the resort’s smart fusion restaurant, will keep you fed and refreshed.

In the Area

There are tons of activities to try in built-for-tourists Sanya, in the southern part of Hainan Island. The beaches near the hotel are perfect for jet-skiing, paragliding and banana boating, and the hotel can help organize glass-bottom boating, deep sea fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving. There’s surfing in Riyue Bay, and lessons and equipment can be arranged with Surfing Hainan. During the Qing Dynasty, Hainan was known as the End of the Earth, and today tourists flock to the rock formation of the same name.

Not recommended

Under a friend's recommendation, we booked a double-bed room. WiFi not working. Telephone handset not working (speaker ok). After an hour of troubleshooting by myself and the hotel technician, we were moved to another room. However the two beds were attached together and it took another half an hour before someone came to separate the beds. Later we found out the bathroom lights were not working. Overall the facility is quite old (no directory book) and people working here don't care about how to improve customer's experience and feedback. I will not recommend this hotel at all.

Fantastic stay with al the service you wish

We had a great stay at Pullman Sanya Yalong Bay Villas & Resort, in the villa with private pool and two bedrooms. Loved our own swimmingpool, but also the pool at the resort. The breakfast buffet was fantastic, so much choice we could eat every day different. The people were verye friendly and the servive level was very high.

I stayed at two Sanya Pullman Resorts while I was in Sanya this July. The first one was the Pullman Oceanview Sanya Bay Resort & Spa. Overall, we really enjoyed the stay and the view was incredible.

We wanted to change things up so we booked this resort the Pullman Sanya Yalong Bay Villas & Resort for two night and upon entering the room wished we had stayed at the other hotel. Before stayed here, I read many reviews some dating back as far as 2017 and thought that they would have updated the rooms by now. However, this was not the case. We stayed in a private villa (it was not that expensive) but there was not as much privacy as we would have liked. There is a fence by the private pool that people walking by can look in. While the fence does not face the road if a person wanted to see someone and take pictures they could have. Also, in the front of the villa the entrance gate / wall has two see through eyes in them that are rather large hence allowing people walking by on the road to see someone swimming in the pool. When I read "private pool" I expect privacy which I was not afforded as much as I would like.

Now let's move inside. The rooms were fair. That is they had been nice at one time. Although they were still mostly nice, they were old and had an over all dirty look about them from age just as in some of the reviews from 2017 and before. The floor in the bathroom had mold on it. We had to use the kettle (thankfully they had one) to boil hot water to pour all over the floor to get the dirt off of it. The outdoor shower from the pool could not be accessed as it was closed and there were holes in the glue they had put up to seal the door which allowed a nice friendly baby lizard to come inside (and mosquitos).

The pool had a lot of leaves in it even when we open the door the first day which makes me ask do they clean them often? The fence was worn out and sagging and the ladder going to the shower (which does not open) is broken, too. The fan in the outside living room did not work and there spider webs everywhere on it anyway.

The few redeeming qualities were the location and the breakfast (except the heat). Others have stated it is too far from the ocean which is not an issue with me as I love to walk. Anyone with internet access can look on a map to see how far they would have to walk. The walk to the ocean is only about 10 minutes and it is a pleasant walk. I did not see any hotels with ocean access however nearby.
