How to Get There
We have stayed at this hotel through its many iterations, but are pleased with the very positive changes Thompson's has made. An exceptional property that was in need of an update has been transformed. The room renovations are very well done, the appointments are tasteful and attention was paid to the details. The new restaurant menus are quite varied and the food is outstanding - contemporary, but with a Mexican flair. We believe it is the most interesting and satisfying menu in years! We have but one concern, that being the re-location of breakfast from the central palapa to the Hao restaurant, we think that was a mistake. Overall the changes are positive, good to see this wonderful hotel being restored to its former beauty and the significant effort being put into it by the new management.
Excellent hotel. I've stayed here before when it was under two different ownership groups. The upgrades made by Thompson are great, and I consider this the best place to stay in Zihua. I almost hate leaving this review because I don't want more people to know about it. Service is impeccable, and the rooms and location are amazing. Food is a bit pricey for what you get, but other than that I have no complaints. Do yourself a favor and ask for Juan as your waiter/beach attendant. Tell him Mr. Meece recommended him. You won't regret it. I look forward to returning here year after year.
This was our third visit to this hotel. I have subtracted one star because of the renovation by Thompson. This was a beautiful, charming and imaginatively decorated hotel with stellar service, fabulous food and the best spot on La Ropa beach. The staff is still mostly the same including the fabulous group of waiters at breakfast and lunch and the beautiful spot is,of course, the same. The only place not renovated ( and I’m told it will be soon) is the spa where I had a wonderful massage by the gracious Rosalba in a candle lit room on a a bed with an an exquisitely embroidered Mexican coverlet and fresh flowers. In the rest of the hotel the lovely hand crafted floors have been replaced with boring white tile, the gorgeous local hardwood which was golden brown they painted matte black. The new owners have made the huge mistake of putting speakers on the beach which pound out club music all day long. Zihuatanejo is a peaceful, charming fishing village, not a hotspot for jet set night life. We did not eat at the fancier restaurant but we did have breakfast and lunch at HAO every day and we found the menu to be a bit over zealous in its attempt to be hip....that’s all I’ll say except that if you don’t want bone broth and kale for breakfast, or a coconut avocado bowl, the kitchen will happily make you pretty much anything you want....again a mark of the unchanged excellent service at this hotel. Go into town for dinner or walk down the beach....cheaper and better.
Great place . This is our second is the hotel . We had an amazing time . The foods and beverages are top quality. All the stall are always willing to help . The beach club like no where else .
