Overview

The Review

Just an hour or so from cosmopolitan Hong Kong, Shenzhen was once known as the Middle Kingdom’s industrial hub. Today the city is the home and playground of some of China’s wealthiest people and a spa destination for weary urbanites from Hong Kong.

The Futian Shangri-La, in the center of Shenzhen’s business district, is an oasis amid the urban chaos, offering the brand’s world-class service alongside three dining venues and nearly 10,000 square feet of spa and health club facilities.

Each of the 548 guestrooms has a 37-inch wall-mounted plasma TV, and a 15-inch LCD TV by the bathtub as well; the tub is complemented by a separate rainfall shower.

There are four on-site dining venues: the Shang Garden, a casual spot serving Cantonese and Huaiyang cuisine; Café Zen, an open-kitchen buffet offering Hong Kong specialties and local favorites; Fook Lam Moon, which specializes in upscale private dining; and the Lobby Lounge, where quick drinks and bar bites are accompanied by live music from 8 p.m. to midnight daily.

The Futian Shangri-La’s eight-room spa offers treatments based on both Eastern and Western philosophies. If the massages and facials aren’t enough to bring back your Zen, the rest of the health club facilities — the indoor pool, tennis courts, sauna and Jacuzzi — can keep you busy for hours.

We stayed here as a group for one night. And we are glad we stayed here the location of the hotel was great, and the rooms were really nice, the service and attitude of the staff was perfect, and the food was great in the hotel. I definitely do recommend a step hotel when staying in Shenzhen.

Nice hotel in Shenzhen. Good location near park and downtown business area. Very pretty lobby and rooms were nicely done. Typical great Shangri-La service. My only complaint was I didn’t get to stay long enough.

Superb Hotel

I stay at the Shenzhen Futian Shangri-La between five and ten times a year.

It is a fabulous ultra-modern property and most rooms have good to very good views of the futuristic garden city of Shenzhen.

Always conveniently located nearby to two MTR lines, access has recently been enhanced with the opening of Futian high speed rail station that provides another connection to Hong Kong and links to other cities in the Mainland.

Minor quibbles are the lack of a bar and the unavailability of draft beer on the premises. Decoration also is a little a bit chintzy and reflects the moment before the recent turn towards a more modern style seen in the very latest generation of Shangri-La-la properties.

Staff are excellent (as usual at Shangri-La).

This hotel is a great base for exploring the splendid (and sadly underrated) city of Shenzhen.

Decent

Decent hotel, good and friendly service. Hit and miss on the English front - just need find the right person then is fine. Not a super plush Shangri-la with all the bells and whistles, but rather a more than sufficient business hotel. Decent buffet, nice touches but in keeping with the rest of the hotel, not an emphasis on WOW factor. Perfectly fine hotel.

Great place to stay in Shenzhen!

The Futian Shangri-La in Shenzhen is a wonderful place to stay!
From the moment of arrival the staff there are professional and attentive to your needs. The Horizon Club team is particularly great - they really go the extra mile to assure your satisfaction.
I suggest choosing a Horizon Club room - it's a bit pricier, but there is a great breakfast and evening happy hour with food.
The property is posh, clean, with many amenities in the room. The shower is the best!!
I've stayed at multiple places in Shenzhen, including the Langham and the Four Seasons. Will only be staying at the Shangri-La in the future.
