With its sparkling exterior, you can’t miss this hotel at night. Inside, light remains a major theme; the lobby’s huge color-changing crystal chandelier blends the French fleur-de-lis with the kapok, Guangzhou’s floral emblem. Ruby-red lacquered vases, lampshades, chandeliers and flowers add daring accents throughout.
Bed and Bath
With upholstered headboards, framed photographs (black-and-white, with a splash of red), rich fabrics and sculptural furniture, the guestrooms have a distinctly Parisian vibe — especially with poetic phrases woven into the carpet. Luxuriate in Sofitel’s signature MyBed. The bathrooms feature a deep tub and separate shower; the toiletries come from Hermès.
Le Grill is as upmarket as steakhouses come — think ultra-prime cuts seared on an Argentine-style grill. Near the lobby the Mar-Tea-Ni Bar’s tea sommelier can recommend a specialist brew; those who require something stiffer can try tea-inspired cocktails. The nail bar offers champagne along with manicures and pedicures.
In the Area
Tianhe is home to Redtory — an art and design center in what was once Asia’s largest canned-food factory. Towering, twisted Canton Tower is colloquially known as Xiao Man’s Waist — a reference to a svelte Tang dynasty geisha. Head to its observation deck — 1,500 feet aboveground — for a bird’s-eye view of this sprawling Pearl River Delta metropolis or to use the lofty post office. Bubble cars circumnavigate its roof. Wander the tree-lined, sculpture-filled avenues of colonial Shamian Island; its charm makes it a popular backdrop for wedding and fashion photographs.
How to Get There
Stayed from 19-21 April 2019. Let’s start with the ugly first.
On the first night, while helping my 6year old daughter to taking her bath, we used the anti-slip mat for her to avoid slipping. To my horror, when we unrolled the plastic mat, the gathered dust inside was the size of a golf ball.
During the first night, while sleeping, the metal panel fell from the ceiling which is the cover of the bathroom electric blind. I took a late bath to soak while both my wife and daughter were sleeping. Then in the morning my daughter woke up first and immediately went to the bathroom to get ready for breakfast, ouch, she slipped as the floor was full of water which I though was from the bath I took. Then the second night, I did not take a bath and the same thing happened again, the bathroom was full of water. Therefore I can only assume that the water was actually from maybe the room above or higher as the drainage was not draining good.
The good and the bad.
As we were with another family, my friend’s daughter wanted to travel with us on checkout, we headed into town with a few hours to kill before the train to Hong Kong departs. Upon getting out of the taxi, I was holding both girls while my wife paid the taxi driver. As she got out of the taxi, he drove away immediately with our suitcase still in the boot. What’s inside was not actually valuable, but things that are more sentimental than anything else which my daughter carried with her since birth. Immediately, I called the Assistant Manager at the hotel to see if he can locate the taxi company of the taxi we got into by reviewing the CCTV. Roy Chen, the Assistant Manager was so helpful. As I cannot speak mandarin, he did his magic and located the taxi company which we are to take a taxi ourselves with the address given. All this happened with still time for use to grab lunch in the city Centre. All I can say is that he is so speedy at his work and sorted out my problem with time to spare.
Something I didn’t know existed in the hotel as that there is actually a robot roaming the corridors or the hotel. As on the second night, we ordered something via wechat for some food deliveries, as on the way down to obtain the food, the elevator proceeded down to the basement, when the door opened, it seemed like R2D2 was coming into the lift as he was able only 3ft tall, a voice asked for room to be given to him and her proceeded to the upper floor of the hotel. Up one checkout, we inquired about this and it’s actually an assistant helping to deliver items to hotel guests on request. But how can you request something that you are not aware of. The hotel should promote this exiting feature at the lobby or their website..
Last but not least. After getting home, we realized that a purple sports towel was left behind in the room which we are trying to contact the hotel on this issue but was in vain.
The hotel is located perfectly, directly connected to the metro line one. The hotel is very well maintained and in good condition. The room we had was great and well kept. The club lounge was very nice and food and beverages very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful and competent.
This hotel is beautiful and its employees are so kind and helpful. I felt safe walking outside the hotel by myself, a blonde, American female, as there are numerous shopping opportunities whether you take the sidewalks to the left or right. The food at the breakfast buffet was plentiful and delicious, and the dinner buffet's seafood selections were some of the most beautiful and savory I have experienced. The hotel's restaurants and bars also offer delicious options for the traveler who is not quite prepared for the unusual street food. While I did not use the pool or fitness room, I did visit both and can say that each area offers guests a place to unwind and burn off stress and jet lag. I would stay at this hotel again if I need to return to Guangzhou.
I really enjoyed the hospitality provided at the 29F Executive Lounge, the team led by Ms. Icy is wonderful and can address all my concerns. Icy and her team are mature, experienced and professional, they become my Super Butler when I am having my business trip in Guangzhou. Thank you so much!
There were 2 black stains found on the bedsheet after check in; however, I was informed no such service at the night time by Alan who from the front office while called to ask for bedsheet changing. It was ridiculous that You are giving out a room with stained bedsheet, and inform your guest no bedsheet changing service can be provided in a 5 star hotel. Alan just rejected the request without understand the reason, what a service.
Finally, a housekeeper came to change the bedsheet, but I was informed again that there was no issue on the stain & it was fine for not to be changed. What another unexpected service that guest shall accept your stained linen! It was very unpleasant even though the housekeeper do change it after that.
I do not expect to be delayed with my rest time & meet such unpleasant assistance in a 5 star hotel.
