With its sparkling exterior, you can’t miss this hotel at night. Inside, light remains a major theme; the lobby’s huge color-changing crystal chandelier blends the French fleur-de-lis with the kapok, Guangzhou’s floral emblem. Ruby-red lacquered vases, lampshades, chandeliers and flowers add daring accents throughout.
Bed and Bath
With upholstered headboards, framed photographs (black-and-white, with a splash of red), rich fabrics and sculptural furniture, the guestrooms have a distinctly Parisian vibe — especially with poetic phrases woven into the carpet. Luxuriate in Sofitel’s signature MyBed. The bathrooms feature a deep tub and separate shower; the toiletries come from Hermès.
Le Grill is as upmarket as steakhouses come — think ultra-prime cuts seared on an Argentine-style grill. Near the lobby the Mar-Tea-Ni Bar’s tea sommelier can recommend a specialist brew; those who require something stiffer can try tea-inspired cocktails. The nail bar offers champagne along with manicures and pedicures.
In the Area
Tianhe is home to Redtory — an art and design center in what was once Asia’s largest canned-food factory. Towering, twisted Canton Tower is colloquially known as Xiao Man’s Waist — a reference to a svelte Tang dynasty geisha. Head to its observation deck — 1,500 feet aboveground — for a bird’s-eye view of this sprawling Pearl River Delta metropolis or to use the lofty post office. Bubble cars circumnavigate its roof. Wander the tree-lined, sculpture-filled avenues of colonial Shamian Island; its charm makes it a popular backdrop for wedding and fashion photographs.
How to Get There
We booked the luxury club room for three nights at this fine establishment. The check in was smooth and expeditious; Michele, manager in duty assisted us, so we didn’t have to go up to the Club level to check in. The room is spacious and very functional, the bathroom is equipped with bidet, separate shower stall and a full size tub. The king size bed is comfortable and the sofa offers a nice rest area as well. The breakfast at the Club lounge is nice; service is attentive and courteous. We had a tremendous time at this fine establishment, the only glitch we had was the due to the design flaw of the shower stall, the water would spilled outside the stall, so you must use the floor towel to pushed against the door, so you would not find the bathroom flooded or slipped on the wet marble floor. The aforementioned designing flaw or improper maintenance by the management is the reason that this beautiful hotel did not receive a five star rating from us. Great staff, from the bell hop to the Club level personnel, everyone was friendly and professional. Further, this hotel is situated in the close proximity of the Guangdong East Rail Depot and the CBD zone, which was the reason that I choose this particular hotel to ease this particular business/leisure trip in Europe and Asia.
The food is tasty, especially the stewed vegetables are fantastic, well balanced the sauce and freshness. Angel Xu leaves the impression of sincerely service, help us for dinner many times. I appreciate the warm, harmonious environment.
