How to Get There
I needed a last-minute hotel near my friend's home in Los Balconces so I chose La Puertecita. The first night, I stayed in a standard room in the actual old house. Let's just say I wasn't comfortable in this room (the red color, the vibe, I don't know, just wasn't feeling it). The next day, I requested a different standard room. The staff was very accommodating and I was moved to the Carmin room, which I stayed in (and very much enjoyed) for the next 4 nights. The rooms were exceptionally clean. I felt safe - the hotel is gated and has 24 hour video surveillance. The ambiance is wonderful. This hotel is nestled at the edge of a canyon in a quiet area with two pools, fountains and lush grounds. If you are seeking peace and relaxation from the busy, noisy town, this place is perfection! Google Translate was extremely helpful, as only one staff member was fluent in English but everyone was willing to work together and I very much appreciated that. Walking to/from the hotel during the day is a great workout and safe but I would recommend a taxi at night. Only a 6-8min walk to the town and the street (Santo Domingo/Correo) runs directly into the Parroquia. I returned to my hotel room every night around 10p - The staff left the lights on and a heater running for me. Really, how great is that to know you're being looked after?! I truly appreciated this hotel and would come back here again.
We recently dined at the restaurant at the La Puertacita. It is an exquisite setting in a beautiful part of San Miguel....the service was impeccable. the food was delicious !
I recommend the Enchilads Suizas....for fine breakfast fare....the grounds are breathtaking with wonderful bronze sculptures throughout...A charming mini waterfall
That wends it’s way through the lovely layers of landscaping...
A must do if in San Miguel.
The grounds of this quiet hotel are beautiful - you can spend quite a bit of time wandering around. There are two pools - one heated and one cold - and plenty of seating around each one. All of the communal spaces are kept very clean, as was our room. The food in the restaurant is delicious. And best of all - the staff could not be more friendly or accommodating. They're really great!
La Puertecita is a quaint hotel above San Miguel de Allende. Not too far of a walk from town center, but far enough to avoid the noise from town. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and all have balconies.. Very nice beds. A peaceful setting with beautiful gardens. They have two pools and a jacuzzi. They have very nice breakfast and lunches. The staff was kind and friendly. We felt at home from the moment we arrived. Charming town and charming hotel.
We stayed here because it was close to the venue where we had a diner party. It was a good choice. We stayed at Bouquet room. Simple, no AC, no safe but comfortable bed and clean bathroom. Across the barranca is a massive construction site so there were hammers (not too loud but quite audible) working at 8am on a Friday morning, not hotel's fault of course but we asked and there's not such noise on weekends.
