Sprawling Alpine-chic resort with a Scandinavian spa in Ontario’s Blue Mountains
While primarily a ski resort, this European-style mountain retreat set between Georgian Bay and the heights of the Niagara Escarpment is a hit with families and business groups year-round, thanks to a host of winter and summer activities. The distinctive red roofs lend the sprawling buildings a Northern European feel; inside, minimalism prevails, particularly in the light-filled Oliver & Bonacini Café Grill, fusing pan-Asian influences with Mediterranean flavors. When not hitting the slopes, guests can chill at Plunge, an aquatic center at the base of Blue Mountain Ski Resort that offers indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs, rope swings, and slides.
In the Area
If you’re keen to experience winter thrills without hitting the slopes, head to the Mill Pond Skating Rink in Blue Mountain village, where the whole family can enjoy an ice-skating adventure. Or for something more adrenaline-filled, take the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster, which races downhill from the Glades area to the bottom of Grand Central Lodge. Summer visitors can float above it all on the Open Air Gondola, which departs from the Village Events Plaza to the top of the escarpment, or hit Blue Mountain’s private beach on the shores of Georgian Bay, which offers paddleboat and kayak rentals.
