How to Get There
I agree that the staff are wonderful, but the breakfast was very disappointing after reading the previous wonderful reviews. I am not sure but I think in my opinion the guests in the estate side get a better breakfast as I peeked in one morning. We stayed in the palazzo side for 10 days and I can only say that the food and drink were tepid at best. I did mention this once and the lady offered to go and get me some hot from the estate side.
We had a good room though, with a walk in shower and a small balcony overlooking the pool and alley. We did have a problem with the light coming through the balcony because for some reason the curtains didn't close all the way, but we solved this by closing the shutters.
The drinks are of a better quality than the bars, especially the ouzo and you don't pay that much extra plus you get a little snack with them. Also if you are sitting in the pool areas they always bring a cold glass of water.
The surrounding streets have some wonderful tavernas and bars. We did try the shops, but it was annoying as most of them wouldn't take cards, they only wanted cash. It was amazing how many times the internet wad down or the machine was broken!! Luckily was tavernas take cards. Our favourite was stavros taverna.
In conclusion, if it wasn't for the breakfast, I would have given them 5 stars, but as I said the staff more than make up for it.
My husband and I recently spent three nights at this hotel. We were absolutely charmed by the attention to detail and the warm welcome by staff.
The hotel is located right in the historic old town where one can walk all over and enjoy many historical sites. I found it easy to access the boardwalk by the water for running as well. I highly recommend this hotel for its charm, value, And location
Fabulous historical building in the old town, brilliant location near to the sights, but away from the bustle, beautiful patio & (small) pool area for breakfast & relaxation throughout the day & evening , second larger pool , really lovely staff , nice breakfast, & quirky, individual & squeaky clean room . Would highly recommend
I was fortunate to spend Eleven nights at this unique time capsule of old Rethymnon. Everything is on your doorstep and at the same time so quiet and relaxing. Myself and Tina are well travelled people with a vast knowledge of hotels and self catering apartments from long haul and European holidays to make this judgment.
The staff cater for all your needs, nothing is to much trouble for them . If you get the chance you must experience the ambience of this unique hidden gem.
The place fills up very quickly, book ahead of time. We could only stay one night, we would have liked to stay longer. Staff is amazingly nice and helpful, not intrusive, just what you need in a 5 star place. Obviously, in this old venitian house (in fact two of them, one on either side of the street), they have made the best of all available space. Our room was on several levels, with a small private balcony on the back street. Everything was decorated with charm, bedding excellent, and bathroom very nice.
The breakfast is also excellent and very varied.
You can have it in the patio, next to the pool. Note that you can use it (and the jacuzzi) only from 11 am till 7 pm. Both places have a pool, one has the jacuzzi but is smaller.
The location is perfect inside the old city, very short distance to all interesting places.
If you are in for training, you can go back to the main street, turn left until you reach the citadel, and right following the sea front. You can run for a few miles along the beach, but then it is back on the road again.
Note that if you book well ahead of time, it is not that expensive.
