How to Get There
Currently sat on the balcony enjoying my 3rd full day here.
The staff and facilities are exemplary. The hotel is even better than we thought it would be. The facilities overall are excellent, as is the food.
Many different nationalities here. Very few Brits. No brigades of tattooed yobs.
Would thoroughly recommend this place for a chilled out high quality holiday.
Good pool and great beach facilities but remember the water shoes!
I went with Saga on my own and was lucky to meet some really lovely other Saga travellers! The hotel is lovely even though not in Sissi itself. However it's worth visiting as it's a very pretty place. I had a large room with a double bed and bunk beds and a balcony. The only criticism I have is that the wardrobes do not go down to the floor so long dresses and trousers have to be folded over, but having bunk beds I used the top one to hang my clothes on. The bathroom was a good size, always with hot water. The restaurant staff are wonderful and will always get you beverages at all meals. The food is self service and plenty of it with an excellent selection. The beach bar turns into the a la carte restaurant at night where you have to book, it's waiter service and it's a five course meal!! There are a few rooms without balcony so ensure that you get one with!! Sunbathing on a sunbed on the grass near the beach was great, it seems that it was more popular than by the pool. All in all a really good hotel and it was a super week.
Good location, one of the best services, friendly personal, solved all the problems, very tasty and quickly, quiet because no hotels near, family friendly. Thanks to all personal of hotel especially GM! Recommend
We Stayed in May 2019
The staff and management here are all very friendly and anxious to please their guests at all times. We cannot fault them. The hotel is kept very clean and the grounds and garden areas are well kept. The hotel has a private beach area with plenty of sunbeds for the guests. There is a good choice of food and wine at meal times for all inclusive guests. There is an evening entertainment programme, which is mostly adequate.
In our opinion this can only qualify as 4 star all inclusive, on a “paper tick list.”
Our group would rate it only 3 star.
Grecotel Meli Palace claims the following facilities:
but in reality there are only 4 “bench sofa” seats along the walls of the reception area. This area also includes a table with 6 chairs for all holiday reps to share. This table when not needed by holiday reps, doubles as the sole cards/board game table, for all guests to fight over. (there is nowhere else available).
Only one is open at a time. The first is a daytime outdoor bar open 10:30 to 18:00hrs. It serves the whole hotel and grounds. It exclusively serves all drinks, in paper beakers only!! This rule is by order of the Management “for Safety Reasons” and this is non-negotiable. (Paper beakers are of course just perfect for drinking Champagne, cocktails, spirits and coffee, etc.). The second bar is a “lobby bar,” that only opens after 17:30hrs. This is inadequate to serve people from the 158 hotel rooms (it seats about 30 people) others must sit outside in the hotel grounds. This bar does use glasses but, it often takes 20 to 30 mins to have your order taken by the single waiter. You cannot order directly at the bar. It should be noted that the hard pressed staff here always do their best to cope with demand.
The only restaurant is a self service buffet. The food, wine and service were very good here. Unfortunately it has open doors to the outside grounds and birds nest in the roof of its “tent extension.” These birds often fly into the food servery and feed freely on the food on display. This happens at all meal times. Staff seem unconcerned about it. On more than one occasion we also observed flies on the carvery joints of meat or fish. Again the chef seemed unconcerned.
The hotel claims it has a 2nd “NISI” restaurant. This did not exist at all during our stay. Presumably this would be open air and located outside in the grounds. We assumed if it ever did exist, it would be waiter service only, supplied from the main kitchen.
The hotel is in an isolated location. For walkers the only safe access is a 20 to 30 mins walk to the local village of Sisi along country lanes. In the opposite direction there is Malia, but most people would find this too far to walk. The hotel seriously needs a Courtesy Bus service, departing at several times every day for its guests, to serve the local villages of Sisi and Malia.
WOULD WE RETURN
On balance we are unlikely to return to this hotel. It may, however, suit older guests who just want to quietly “chill” at the small pool area or the beach and who do not mind the isolated location.
Just returned from a weeks holiday at the Meli Place highly recommend this hotel. The staff are wonderful as is the setting will return next year. Peaceful and relaxing perfect relaxing atmosphere with good food
