Domes of Elounda, Autograph Collection
What We Love
- Panoramic views of the Gulf of Korthos and the Venetian ruins on Spinalonga Island
- Cuisine by top Greek chefs
- The spa's relaxation room, lit by candles
- Sea views from all the Dome Suites
- Contemporary design brings in sunlight and incorporates sweeping views
- Walking distance to the charming fishing village of Plaka, where you can eat in a traditional taverna
What To Know
- The resort is popular with European families, so there will most likely be children around
- Consider renting a car if you’d like to explore Crete, as the resort is somewhat isolated
- The beach is a narrow stretch of gray sand accessed through a tunnel running under a road
- Since the villas and Dome Suites are built vertically up a cliff (read: on top of each other), some offer more privacy than others
- Free WiFi
- Kids Club
- Parking On Site

How to Get There
I’m confused as to what makes this hotel worthy of 5 star when the amenities are Shabby, verging on Travel lodge.
I will list for clarity and ease of read.
* Kleenex (nose tissues) to dry your hands in all social space bathrooms. No towels, no paper towels no air machines Nothing.
* GYM Machines old, treadmill needs re setting, broken Rowing machine that’s unusable and I have reported it twice. Old gym facilities. All machines dirty.
* We have the 2 bedroom villa - own pool. Never seen anyone clean the pool or even straighten the area out as would happen in a normal 5 star. Only cleaned on request. This shouldn’t be what’s happening.
*The main bedroom and 2nd bedroom in this villa is tiny. But Claustrophobic tiny and an insult for the £11,000 charge we have paid for 1 WEEK. I’m staying here right now so happy to show live video and photos
There are No mages of this actual main bedroom anywhere in the internet - obviously as they know it’s not a good positive feature - the room is as deep as the actual Queen bed plus 6 inches
* The staff tell you the hotel is FULL - it isn’t! It’s a ghost town. See for yourself , go book a room online now - lots available. Live videos available now - I’m still here.
• The beach does not look like the professional photos that have been taken. And nothing can be done about the climate but WINDY DUST ALL DAY ON YOUR LUNCH AND SUNBED
* This hotel has seen better days - maybe had its day back in 2013 - I had a choice of Costa Navarino (been there before vs Domes of Elounda- I got it so wrong and SO HAVE ITC who I will also inform.
*This hotel is not for the Old, pushchairs, Teen Children or more as it’s Very Hilly with nothing to do.
* Let’s finish up on a review in ‘CORE’, being marketed as fun lively location. NOPE will visor for this evening so you can see for yourself.
ITS DEAD HERE -
Breakfast Buffet an awful disaster 3 star
Thank god the food is in the restaurant s is ok and the just out of hospitality college breakfast serving staff are lovely - no experience! Just a happy young enthusiastic smile
Who ever manages here needs to go and visit other hotels in the same rating so that they have a clear understanding of what should be honoured under the 5 star rating that you currently hold.
Just to be clear - we’re here for a week staying in what’s advertised as one of your best accommodations so room change would not be an option.
Will never recommend
Will never come back
Feeling Robbed of £11,000

Our family of 3 stayed here the last week of June. I had never been to Crete or known anyone who had so pulling this hotel off the Marriott site was a bit of a gamble for me. It could not have been a more perfect week!
The hotel is in a peaceful area located an hour from Heraklion. We started our stay with amazing massages at the gorgeous spa to ease ourselves into a relaxing atmosphere. After familiarizing ourselves with the hotel and the area, we ventured out to such places as Agios Nikolaos, Plaka, Knossos and some other small coastal towns. The concierge team was very helpful with reservations. We rented a car for two days. I highly recommend renting from the onsite Enterprise office. The woman who runs the desk, Phaedra, was incredibly helpful. She knew all the cars in the lot very well and chose one that was perfect for us. She also helped us map out our days and recommended amazing towns and restaurants to visit. It was nice to show up at these family restaurants and be warmly welcomed because we were sent by Phaedra. The hotel restaurants were wonderful as well. There were so many of them! We ate at CORE one night which is kind of a food/art/shopping experience. This was great because it was so casual and sometimes you just want a pita and beer. We also loved Cretan night at the buffet. It gave us a chance to try some Greek dishes in small bites. The beach and pool restaurants were fabulous for lunch. Breakfast was always delicious and the friendly staff was so upbeat in the early morning.
Both beach and pool were amazing, it was hard to decide where we wanted to be so we split our time.
Our room was large and our balcony faced Spinalonga. Be sure to visit the island. It was such a photographic place.
We really could have spent the entire summer here. Highly recommend!
This was our first trip to Crete. The hotel is about an hour’s drive away from Heraklion airport. We arrived late but received a polite and efficient welcome nonetheless. We booked one of the hotel’s 3 bedroom villas (604) and received complimentary cold refreshments when we arrived in the villa. The villa itself had undergone a refurbishment last year. Nice interiors, air conditioning worked well in master bedroom but not so efficiently in one of the upstairs bedrooms (all 3 bedrooms had ceiling fans in addition to vented air conditioning which proved useful). Beds VERY comfortable (wished we could buy these for back home but Greek manufactured so shipping costs etc make this unlikely). Nice villa pool, cleaned early every morning. Only downsides to accomodation as far as we were concerned: 1) Handheld shower attachments instead of proper showers in 2 of 3 bathrooms - usable but not as user-friendly as proper overhead shower 2) Our villa only had minibar, no separate refrigeration for personal use (this isn’t really that type of hotel!). One room safe in villa. Good standard of cleaning daily. Don’t worry if you encounter a few of the native creepy crawlies....
The resort is spread out over quite a hilly area and use of the complimentary club carts around the resort is very much part of daily life here. The hotel has a pleasant and sizeable main pool (which we didn’t personally use) that never seemed too busy. It also has a nice little seafront beach for hotel customers but we didn’t use it.
Restaurants-wise there is a fair selection in the hotel. We went half-board and thought that this was probably the best standard of inclusive food that we’d had. They have a system though where your half-board allowance ‘counts’ to an extent. Some dishes you are allowed inclusive, but for more expensive ones you have to pay extra above and beyond your allowance. There are four restaurants in the hotel. A good buffet restaurant which is open most nights. In addition a beach restaurant, an Italian and also a Japanese-Peruvian. We ate in some nights and out others.
Talking about getting out, the hotel is situated between the larger town Elounda (a 5-10 minute cab drive away from the hotel) and Plaka, a small village within 15 minutes walking distance. Both nice to visit for lunches, Plaka the more authentic of the two. Unfortunately you do tend to get touted by the restaurant staff at both so prepare yourself!
We were very fortunate to be allocated a Villa Manager, Georgia, during our stay. She was so helpful with restaurant recommendations, reservations and taxi bookings. We were even given a mobile phone to contact her as we wished.
We travelled with our two sons, the younger is 13. The resort has a nice den (something akin to a small barn in size) for children of this age. VR/Xbox machines, table tennis, snooker etc. My wife found the member of staff in here very helpful and enjoyed chatting to him.
Breakfasts here were nice - usual type of fare. Staff generally very pleasant and helpful.
Overall we found our holiday here very relaxing and enjoyed it to the extent that we have made enquiries with the hotel about coming back again next year.
Just as an afterthought, the hotel has a lovely bar near the reception which overlooks the island of Spinalonga. If your budget stretches to it treat yourself to a cocktail on the verandah outside as the sun sets, listening to the lady singing live light jazz in the background....
