Located in eastern Crete, 20 minutes from the sleepy fishing village of Elounda, Daios Cove Luxury Resort is set in 37 acres, hand-carved out of the surrounding hillside above the inviting azure waters of Daios Bay. Interiors tend to the minimal side, with stone walls, a typically Greek white-on-white palette, sleek wooden furniture around the infinity pool, several contemporary eateries and a trendy bar, Crystal Box, which plays chill-out music throughout the day.
Bed & Bath
With 300 rooms, suites and villas, Daios Cove is no small inn. The guestrooms are large; Deluxe Sea View Rooms start at 452 square feet, while One-Bedroom Villas are more than 1,000. The light blue, beige and sandy color scheme harmonizes with the views outside. While there’s poolside service at the main infinity pool on the property, many of the guestrooms come with their own heated pool, and there’s nothing quite like calling room service and spending a day with nothing but you, your loved ones and the sea all the way to the horizon.
For active types there are two tennis courts, a scuba center, an entertainment room with activities for kids, and a helipad (if you’re thinking of arriving in style). Back on the ground, three restaurants and three bars serve local cuisine and cocktails, with options from the hilltop down to the water’s edge, including an adults-only pool with a swim-up bar for cocktails. The large spa offers dozens of water-based treatments chosen by the team at Germaine de Capuccini, and guests can Zen out with two indoor pools, a sauna, steam bath and an ice fountain.
How to Get There
This place is simply amazing.
Where to start?
The location was paradise. The sea is the clearest and bluest I've seen in my life, no exaggeration. You could see to the bottom as far out as you went. Fish swim around you too.
The beach and staff on it were great. They came and chatted to us from time to time and we made friends with one in particular. She was a highlight and our daily chats will be missed. She was always on hand with a cocktail or some nuts/nachos. (Try the banana cocktail or the Zombie). Also the way they do the chips, so good.
Speaking of the beach there was scuba diving, wake boards and speed boat rides for those who wanted them.
The staff were incredibly helpful, friendly, polite and well presented. A joy to see every day.
The cleanliness was tiptop. The room huge and beautiful with a private pool and amazing views of the sea to the right, cliff in front and mountains to the left, (great sunsets behind them in the eves.)
The food!!!! The breakfast and dinner buffets had no end of options! Fruits, nuts, veg raw and cooked, lamb, cheese, omelets made to order, pancakes with different types of syrups, sausages, squid, pastries, breads of all sorts, cold meats, pastries of all sort you name it. And the dinner options were different every night surprisingly and every item delicious (Try the lamb).
The doors open to the sea air every morning and evening while eating, heaven. I must admit I found the local cats coming in every day and wandering round the tables, albeit politely, waiting to be fed was odd but after the first night I looked forward to seeing them. Give them a bit of food why don't you. Makes a nice change to pigeons I guess.
As mentioned by others there was a family area and an adults only area which was nice.
The bar is great, nice balcony, well stocked and great staff.
Even the toilets are something to behold too in the main lobby. Red marble for the ladies and grey for the gents and hundreds of individually rolled towels under the sinks to wipe your hands on sticks out in my mind for some reason! No paper tissues or electric dryers in a 5 star resort it seems. Beautiful and unique sinks and taps stick in my mind too. Call me odd but these little details where something else.
Glass elevators up and down the side of the cliffs and electric buggies to ferry you to and from your chosen destinations were just a request or phone call away. They made traveling from the seventh street to the lower levels a joy when we overindulged which was every day. Tho try walking the whole way one time, its a nice walk.
The smells of the trees and plants and flowers everywhere. The hellos and smiles between every guest when passing. The whole atmosphere and vibe was beautiful.
There were jewelry and clothes shops and a newsagent type shop for nappies, fags, books etc etc.
Even a cinema! Just ask what they're showing as it changes every night. We saw Bohemian Rhapsody, made the gf a Queen fan :)
Complimentary wine when we first arrived which was surprisingly good, and the song playing on the TV for you when you first enter is still stuck in my head, we left it playing on repeat the whole first day in the background like the soundtrack to the cove! (I believe its on the website)
So many things that combined to make this the best and most relaxing holiday I've ever had and the most beautiful location I've stayed in
The only downsides in the interest of honesty was the absoloutly freezing private pool in the room. Even with the sun shining on it all day it was like an ice bath. Apparently its £80 a day to heat it which is a bit nuts but each to their own. The communal pool or better yet the sea more than sufficed.
Also the surprise room tax which we weren't expecting could have ruined the whole holiday had we not had it. £50 a night was sprung on us out of the blue but you get it back at the end minus what you spend in the mini bar or damage I guess so be ready for that!
Try the spa too.
We will be back. Daios cove is heaven.
Returned home last week after a 5 day stay, and by gosh what a wonderful time we had.
On arrival from Heraklion (50 mins drive) our first impressions were amazing.
Security entrance so all drivers are asked who they are then There are golf buggy’s waiting to be labelled and taken to your room.
The staff are the best staff we’ve ever experienced in any hotel. Nothing was too much trouble. Once checked in, the golf buggy’s are available to take you to your room (24/7) alongside a staff member.
We were very impressed with our room which had a plunge pool (very cold!)
Views were great overlooking the beach and cove looking out to sea!
So we had breakfast and dinner included, both of which offered a huge selection of foods! Very very pleased as sometimes food included can be to a lower standard, but not here.
Water was included. Drink prices were expensive €5 for beer, €12 for glass of wine, but in a plush hotel we expected prices to reflect.
The dining area was organised so well, one side for adults and the other for families. The staff were quick to tidy up & made such a fuss of the babies and children it was lovely to see.
I had 2 massages in the spa, only originally booked one but it was so so good I ended up having a second! The spa is clean, quiet and very relaxing.
The indoor pool offers great views overlooking the cove!
The outdoor pool is an infinity pool also offering great views, there’s plenty of sun beds, a lovely restaurant & a swim up bar.
Walk down a few steps onto the most beautiful beach. Lots of sun beds. The staff Are there waiting with towels & they see you to the sun loungers & lay the towels out for you! Such a lovely touch! There’s also a bar down there for drinks and food.
There are 2 feniculars which can take you to all the different floors! Again, another lovely touch!
We went to the crèche for one evening, for story time, my baby is 9 months old but still breast feeding so couldn’t leave him there but for babies and older children it’s a great place for them to have fun!!
There’s outdoor tennis courts right at the top near the helipad which is great for a little walk.
I would 100% recommend this hotel, we had a wonderful 5 days and definitely will return. You will not be disappointed!
We stayed for 4 days somehow off season attending a conference. Besides the fact that is was mostly work, we had the chance to use most of what the place had to offer. The area is amazing and the sea was superb. The quality of all the infrastructures wat top notch. The spa facilities were worth the price. But wat was exceptional the most was the service the personnel the room service the food, the restaurants. There was also an "adult zone" in the main restaurant, that would be appreciated with less young peaople with children that enjoy quietness. The whole experience from arival to depart left with the feeling of being treated as someone important and special as we all deserve when paying for our vacation. Bravo!
