It’s no wonder that Crete is the stuff of myths and legends; this idyllic Greek island is home to snow-capped mountains that loom over sun-drenched beaches, modern hotels perched in ancient hilltop villages and international golf courses nestled next to ancient olives groves. This is a destination that’s got all the essentials of a relaxing island vacation – tranquility, culture and beautiful scenery – in spades.
The five-star Castello Boutique Resort & Spa is the perfect hideaway from which to experience Crete for yourself. Perched amid tropical gardens in the traditional seaside village of Sissi, this newly built Small Luxury Hotel of the World also ticks all the boxes of a serene and sunny getaway. There’s a freshwater swimming pool, an excellent Mediterranean restaurant, a poolside bar and a spa (complete with a hammam and sauna), which means switching off and living the good life is easy.
Rooms and suites
Superior rooms are awash with natural light, refreshing décor and plenty of space – 323 square feet, to be exact. The two-story Junior suites are even larger, at 538 square feet, and include an upstairs bedroom and a downstairs living room.
Elea Restaurant is sleek and spacious, with spectacular views of the resort’s tropical gardens and the mountains beyond. Dishing up delicious Mediterranean fare using locally sourced ingredients, Elea caters to all tastes. Aroma Bar is the perfect place for a sunset tipple, serving refreshing cocktails and other drinks by the stunning freshwater pool. Piano nights and other entertainments are regular features at this elegant resort.
Callista Spa takes relaxation to another level, boasting a massage parlor offering a wide range of therapeutic treatments, a hammam, a sauna, a hair salon and a relaxation room.
Castello Boutique Resort & Spa is located in the town of Sissi, on the northern coast of Crete, offering accessible seclusion. The sea is just steps from the resort, so you can have the sand between your toes in no time. The charming village center, with its unique boutique shops and little tavernas, is just a very short walk, providing the perfect opportunity for an afternoon stroll.
How to Get There
The most beautiful and serene place we have ever had the pleasure of staying at. From the moment Elena checked us in to the time we checked out we felt like royalty. You even upgraded us for our first night as we were celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary. Your staff at the castello boutique are an absolute credit to the company. From the front of house, to the restaurant/bar staff and even the cleaning team all wonderfully pleasant and welcoming. Cannot wait to return to the island of Crete and this beautiful hotel soon.
Sisi is small harbourtown in Crete which hosts one of the most pleasant hotels I've stayed in.
The hotel restaurant is probably one of the best restaurants in Sisi, the food is high quality, plentiful, fresh and tasty. If you are not planning to go out much diner included might be the best way to go.
For lunch you can check the poolmenu.
The hotel has a lovely spa which I went to twice. The gym on the other hand is dated, a bit dirty, extremely hot and offers mostly (broken) cardio equipment.
We had a room with balcony on the gardenside next to the pool, the room was big and spacious and clean. The pool area is nicely kept and sunbeds are plenty available.
The parasols I found offer not enough protection against the sun. They give shade but the sun comes straight through and I stupidly enough got sunburned sitting under a parasol. The next days I made sure to put on sunscreen first.
The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful, they make everyone feel at home and welcome.
Right next door is a supermarket for whatever else you might need. Sisi is a small town with not much going on except a few shops, a farmacy and an impressive amount of restaurants. Towns like Malia are a short cab ride away for those who are looking for a wild night out.
Sisi and Castello Hotel are perfect for those who need peace, quiet and quality R&R, with some civilisation close by.
The Castello Boutique Resort & Spa is a small but luxurious hotel, where the staff fall over themselves to be helpful, making a stay very pleasant. Sissi is a small resort and there are a number of nearby beaches, Boufos and Avlaki are smaller and have some stones, but the Kalimera beach, protected by a breakwater offers sand and safe swimming - but with easy access to the sea proper by swimming beyond the breakwater. There are further long beaches just beyond the Kalimera beach. If you prefer a pool, the hotel has a lovely freshwater pool and another indoor pool in the spa - plus a gym available too. Highly recommended.
Beginning with the clean rooms (including bathroom ), immaculate dining areas, wonderful attention to detail throughout the property.
The staff were very hospitable and friendly at all times, providing service with a smile - in every function ( from room cleaners to bar staff and restaurant service ). The bar staff were exceptionally helpful, and accommodating towards all of the guests. However, in the unusually hot weather, the bar staff were still wearing long sleeved shirts, when perhaps short sleeve shirts would have been somewhat more comfortable.
I was exceptionally impressed with the multilingual reception staff, who could speak French, German, Russian, and English - in addition to their native Greek.
I would return in a heartbeat ..... Excellent !

This place really is as good as the reviews suggest.
Myself and my husband booked this as a complete chill, this place is really peaceful and offers the chance to relax in beautiful surroundings.
Starting with the staff they really were excellent professionals. Steve our waiter was absolutely fantastic we had really great fun chatting with him each day. Thannos on the bar is really great also and looked after us very well.
The spa is really beautiful we had many very high quality treatments here. In fact a massage by Hava and Jenny where the best we had ever had, anywhere perfect!
The bedroom was spacious and cleaned to a very high standard complete with mini bar. Every room has a balcony and ours looked out over the mountains which was nice.
Food here is very good and there really is so much choice it’s amazing. Each evening you also get to choose from a menu for a main course. Only thing to remember is men have to wear long trousers which was a bit of a pain, men could I felt have the option of wearing smart shorts as it is very hot for us brits!!
Overall this really represents excellent value for money and you won’t be disappointed. If we return to Sissi we would definitely choose to stay at Castello again and would recommend to others.
