A five-star stay at a Small Luxury Hotel of the World, with breakfast, a dinner and perks for longer stays

The Lowdown

It’s no wonder that Crete is the stuff of myths and legends; this idyllic Greek island is home to snow-capped mountains that loom over sun-drenched beaches, modern hotels perched in ancient hilltop villages and international golf courses nestled next to ancient olives groves. This is a destination that’s got all the essentials of a relaxing island vacation – tranquility, culture and beautiful scenery – in spades.
The five-star Castello Boutique Resort & Spa is the perfect hideaway from which to experience Crete for yourself. Perched amid tropical gardens in the traditional seaside village of Sissi, this newly built Small Luxury Hotel of the World also ticks all the boxes of a serene and sunny getaway. There’s a freshwater swimming pool, an excellent Mediterranean restaurant, a poolside bar and a spa (complete with a hammam and sauna), which means switching off and living the good life is easy.

Rooms and suites

Superior rooms are awash with natural light, refreshing décor and plenty of space – 323 square feet, to be exact. The two-story Junior suites are even larger, at 538 square feet, and include an upstairs bedroom and a downstairs living room.

Elea Restaurant is sleek and spacious, with spectacular views of the resort’s tropical gardens and the mountains beyond. Dishing up delicious Mediterranean fare using locally sourced ingredients, Elea caters to all tastes. Aroma Bar is the perfect place for a sunset tipple, serving refreshing cocktails and other drinks by the stunning freshwater pool. Piano nights and other entertainments are regular features at this elegant resort.

Callista Spa takes relaxation to another level, boasting a massage parlor offering a wide range of therapeutic treatments, a hammam, a sauna, a hair salon and a relaxation room.

Castello Boutique Resort & Spa is located in the town of Sissi, on the northern coast of Crete, offering accessible seclusion. The sea is just steps from the resort, so you can have the sand between your toes in no time. The charming village center, with its unique boutique shops and little tavernas, is just a very short walk, providing the perfect opportunity for an afternoon stroll.

Just returned yesterday from an amazing stay at the hotel. I did a lot of research as to where to stay in Crete, not having been there before and I use Trip Advisor for this purpose. The reviews are all correct. This is a lovely, small and well placed hotel with great facilities and so quiet! We spent a relaxing and chilled out week here and would definitely come back, something we never tend to do. However the real attraction of this hotel is the staff. OMG they are all amazing! They are all so warm and friendly and have a genuine interest in your stay. Stavros, what can I say? he is a legend. He combines warmth and humour with excellent customer service. Stelios, the manager also works so hard which clearly inspires his staff and leads by example. Eleni and Alexandra are both informative, professional and welcoming and not to mention Dementris from the bar who was also a great host and cocktail maker. There is also Jenny who works in the restaurant who was lovely, in fact they were all great , just cant remember all the names sorry! Just goes to show from these reviews how many names are mentioned as you do not often see this. We had so many chats to the staff and the general manager and they were all so welcoming. It is rare these days to have this sort of relationship with hotel employees. We also had fantastic food so credit has to be passed to the chef also. Would 100% recommend this hotel !!

Can I give only 5 stars? I want to award 6

My wife and I have been fortunate enough to stay at some pretty great hotels (Burj Al-Arab, Four Seasons, Georges V) and the service here was as good as anywhere I have ever been. A massive shout out to Stelios and his team - Stavros, Jenny, Dimitris, Mike, Patrocles, Giorgos and all the other fantastic staff (sorry, I don't remember all your names) were all unfailingly polite, helpful, efficient and caring people. Example: we arrived late (1.30am) and they had left us a meal in our room - we were B&B only, so didn't expect it, but boy, was it welcome!
The hotel is lovely, with well-apportioned rooms, bar etc. Breakfast is very good, with a wide variety available. We had a special romantic evening meal in the garden: this was spectacular, with a selection of wines to complement each course. Giorgos cooked it, Patrocles advised on the wines and it was a meal to remember.
The location is excellent: a 5 minute stroll to the harbour, with restaurants, bars etc. Not a clubbing-type place, but great for a relaxing time.
There is only one 'however' - right next door to the hotel is a church and on Sundays the bells ring at 7am and the sung service is broadcast by tannoy at 8.45am, and lasts for about 45 minutes. Frankly, although it was a nuisance, our stay was so good that I would accept the minor inconvenience without hesitation, and we are planning to go back later in the year.
One of the nicest holidays we've ever had, and would recommend it to anyone, young or old.

This is a lovely hotel which definitely gives a 5 star service. It is clean, friendly, relaxed and peaceful. The rooms are spacious, our balcony overlooked the peaceful gardens and nearby church. We arrived at 1 o'clock in the morning and were shown to our room where there was a cold supper and drink awaiting us. This level of consideration and service was reflected during the rest of our stay where nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were exceptionally polite and treated us with top level customer service and friendliness at all times. This is a small hotel (48 rooms) and as a result, the large dining area /outside gardens and pool area were never crowded. We would highly recommend this hotel as somewhere to rest and recharge your batteries in peace and tranquillity. Thank you to Stelios and all of the Staff. Steve and Rose.

Our 1st visit to the Castillo boutique resort hotel.
Arrived late on our first night to be greeted by the night manager. All book-in details available and escorted to our room with in 10 minutes of arrival. Great room very spacious and clean and well presented. Additionally fresh salad meals and well stocked bar in room.
As the hotel has only 48 rooms there was a great family atmosphere and very quickly the staff know you as if we were old friends.
Having traveled extensively over the years I have to say the hotel staff are , without doubt the most friendly and helpful I have come across. It is worth while given note to the following members of staff for their dedication and professionalism in helping to make our stay most enjoyable. Namely , Eleni the manageress, Steve the restaurant main waiter ( what a characater) Domitri the cocktail barman, Maria the spar manager , nothing a problem for her to make the spar experience special, not forgetting Sergious the restaurant manager who made the dining experience a treat to look forward to. Amazing food , served each day , a real treat .
Overall a fantastic hotel made special by the outstanding staff .

First time to Crete... we will be back!

This is a wonderful hotel in the perfect village resort in Sissi, Crete. This has been a fantastic break in a place that has really warmed us in wanting to come back soon.
From the moment we arrived when we were welcomed by Alexandra and the team with lemon drinks to refresh us, we knew this was going to be a great stay.
We were treated so fantastically by all the staff throughout the week. Dimitri looked after us so well at the bar and pool side; Stelios and his team looked after us every morning with a great breakfast and everyday we enjoyed chatting to the team, whether it was to discuss places to visit or dine out or to help us with improving our Greek. "My hovercraft is full of eels" is the best phrase we were trying to learn.
The hotel could not have been better and the team made it even more special.
We will be back!
