Amirandes Grecotel Exclusive Resort occupies a prime position on Crete’s north coast, steps away from the dazzling allure of the Mediterranean, which gently laps a postcard-perfect stretch of golden shoreline. This getaway is designed for not just two, but three, Rs: rest, relaxation and romance.
If you can tear yourself away from your spacious room, make your way to the spa, or lose yourself in the Olympic-sized seawater pool. When it comes to drinking and dining, you’ll find numerous restaurants and bars to choose between, offering cuisine from organic local treats to Asian and Italian fare. For some light leisure, you’ll have three flood-lit tennis courts and a Golf Academy at your fingertips. Or, head to the Watersports Center for sailing, canoeing and kayaking.
Superior rooms are chic, spacious and well appointed, with beautiful views over the garden and comfortable king-size beds which provide a romantic retreat after a day on the sands. Superior Family rooms are larger than Superior rooms, with 430 square feet to the former’s 334.
There are a variety restaurants to choose from here, everything from Italian specialties at Minotaur to candlelit dinners on the beach. You’ll also find seafood, Asian and organic Cretan, plus a Mediterranean buffet, as part of the mix, along with a lagoon bar and a bar by the beach.
Amirandes Elixir Alchemy Spa offers a heavenly spa experience. Treatments use extracts from organic plants and Cretan herbs and include Ayurvedic therapies from expert therapists from India. There are a superbly serene indoor pool, relaxation lounges with tea and juices, a sauna and an open-air seafront area for yoga. You’ll find a fully equipped gym here for a workout, too (if you must).
Amirandes Grecotel Exclusive Resort is beautifully located on Crete’s northern coast, along a picturesque stretch of Mediterranean coastline with two sandy coves. The archaeological site at the Palace of Knossos is well within reach. Plenty of fun can be found nearby, including horse riding, Crete’s largest water park, Gouves train ride and the CretAquarium – one of the Mediterranean’s largest marine-science complexes.
How to Get There
The architecture of this hotel is stunning. The main restaurant is open and airy. The beach is nice, etc. We stayed for 8 nights but got a little bored by the limited activities on offer. There is not much beyond the hotel and the sea was not suitable for most water sports on offer.
I was very disappointed by the prices of the food and drink. €16,50 for a Gin & Tonic. Really that’s like London prices and some...!
There is a massive list of wines, but it was very difficult to find one which was drinkable below €60,00 - how can this be? There are many affordable French and Italian wines cheaper than this!
We were half-board which entitles you to dinner in the main restaurant - there are 4 further restaurants but the prices are tremendously expensive. We booked the Italian restaurant one evening, but walked out after seeing the menu and the over-priced options.
What really irritated me was that there are tennis courts at the hotel - however you have to pay extra to use them. €11,00 per hour to rent. Surely this should be freely available to guests like the other facilities!
Service was good, they tried to please us, but we were shocked that the bar staff from the Sunset bar tried to sneak unauthorised tips on to our bills. I don’t mind paying tips, but only as I choose!
Nice hotel, but I won’t be returning. There are better places for these prices.
I decided to celebrate my birthday at Amirandes and it certainly didn’t disappoint. As a gift, I was upgraded on arrival to a bungalow! The resort is beautiful and has access to a nice long sandy beach. It also has an olympic size pool filled with sea water. I tried their spa and it was fabulous too! Eva, the therapist, was excellent! The resort also has a lot of activities for adults and kids. I tried archery, beach volley and played ping pong too. They even out on a show at night. Stas (the archery coach) was very friendly and helpful and so was Kostas (beach volley). The resort also had a wide variety of restaurants. They also have tennis courts so I manage to squeeze a lesson too. I loved the place and would definitely consider going back again!
Just returned from the Amirandes, truly stunning hotel. The views from the hotel reception sets the tone for the rest of the hotel set around water, the theme everywhere. The food, unusually in the main restaurant is exceptional every day. Love the kids corner for feeding the children first we then would eat elsewhere while the kids played. We were upgraded to a two bedroom suite with a pool, wonderful room as it turned out my husband spent 2 days in hospital not the hotels fault! We were grateful for the upgrade gave us the peace we needed in the difficult time. Finally I want to say a huge thank you to the manager and staff at the restaurant who rallied round myself and my daughter even calling the hospital for me and looking after my daughter.. you are wonderful.
