While Australia is famed for its natural wonders, in buzzy Broadbeach on Queensland’s Gold Coast, manmade attractions are also a major draw. The high-rise Sofitel, with its 296 rooms, two pools, and access to a casino and shopping mall, is perfect for those who like to be at the center of the action. Pared down rooms in white and brown allow the city or Pacific Ocean views to pop, with all the amenities you’d expect of a major 5 star resort, like marble bathrooms and flatscreen TVs. There are two dining options, both with a sophisticated urban vibe; TC’s sports bar offers a more casual ambiance plus a host of indoor games.
In the Area
The Gold Coast boasts some of Australia’s most renowned surfing beaches like the aptly named Surfers Paradise; beginners can get a taste for the waves at the Cheyne Horan Surf School. The area is also known for its Humpback Whale sightings; boats like Spirit of the Gold Coast offer half day tours. Kids will get a kick out of the region’s theme parks like Sea World, Warner Brothers’ Movie World, and Wet ‘n’ Wild Gold Coast, while animal lovers will adore Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, the perfect place to spot kangaroos, koalas, and crocs.
How to Get There
If you are thinking of a "luxury escape" think again...
Overall we had high expectations and it was unfortunately a complete let down, i would not stay there again and would definitely not recommended it either.
The hotel has some serious issues which need to be addressed.
In its current state it is far from luxurious and also feels dated.
I feel sorry for the staff as they have been very lovely
This is by far the most difficult review and it pains me to only give 2 starts.
However need to point out that i am also comparing it with 2 other 5 night package deals we booked at the Gold Coast within the last 12 month. (Sheraton Grand Mirage & Marriott Resorts and Spar) for similar $.
Purely based on location and convenience it would deserve 5 stars, as it has lots of great restaurants nearby and is only about a10 min walk to Pasific Fair Shopping Centre, a Uber to Surfers will set you back by about $8 or $4.80 by tram.
Overall the staff has been very kind and welcoming however what i could not get past was the incredible 'moldy, musty carpet smell' the minute we walked into our Superior Ocean view room. - We thought it may just need 'a bit of fresh air' so opened the balcony door and went for a coffee...however when we got back the smell was still overwhelming so we called reception for assistance, to our surprise there was no hesitation and we were immediately offered to be moved to another room. A most helpful staff member promply came to our room to assist with the move, advising that she had a selection of rooms we could choose from? To our great surprise and even greater disappointed all rooms had the same issue, smelling damp/moldy, although they were immaculately clean, it took over 2 hours and an untold number of rooms (which even included room upgrades) we ended up having to downgrade and settle for a standard non ocean view room, were the smell was hardly detectable due to the air conditioning being turned off and we refrained from using it during our stay.
If i had the energy to deal with changing hotels i would have, however suffered from a massive headache at that point and just wanted to start our holiday and we were also up since 4 am and felt that it was just easier to stay on as we bought a 5 night package deal.
We later learned that the hotel is well aware of this issue and even have a large Excel list of rooms to avoid for this very reason??? Really?
The Buffet breakfast selection & quality was also rather underwhelming, e.g only offering smoked salmon over the weekend even when we asked for some we were told that it is not available, made to order omelets lack flavor, however on the upside you will be told how many minutes you will have to wait.
The breakfast area itself lacks atmosphere despite nice table flowers, the type of chairs used are ones you would expect to see at a large conference rather than in a restaurant/ bistro and most of them had fabric stains.
Despite the clever use of mirrors, the gym is super small and completely basic, the pool area is ok, however you will need to be fast if you want to secure one of the few shaded spots as there are no umbrellas.
Our 5 course degustation menu was pleasant and prepared with great attention to detail, staff was friendly however noticed that tables around us received better service, our wine was never topped up, possibly because we brought our own wine 🤔
We keep on coming back to the Sofitel Broadbeach - the staff are always competent and friendly, and the accommodation doesn't disappoint. There is a welcoming elegance about the hotel which makes it stand out from other hotels at the Gold Coast.
Location was good. Room is smelly. They offered to spray the room however the smell returned. Tried to make multiple cups of coffee to deodorise but it didn’t work. There were also ants which was the worse. Bathroom outdated. Staying here for 3 nights. Not what I expected for the price range. Stayed in 604.
Pleasure staying here for sure. From when we arrived everyone was so lovely, took our bags and was checked in quickly. Got a lovely upgrade to ocean view which was a surprise so thankyou. Rooms were very clean and lovely maybe a little on the old side but overall loved the property. Staff were prob the best!!! Thankyou
Great location in the heart of Broadbeach. We used a free Accor night here, as well as an extra night. Had breakfast for $1 and was quite impressed with the breakfast options. Beautiful breakfast room and great food. Drinks were a little expensive at the bar, but great atmosphere.
Our room had a great ocean view and good amenities, however I feel that they need a serious update. The bathrooms were not clean to my standards, and were definitely not 5 star. The bed linen was not that flash, however loved the extra towels provided.
With my Accor free night, I was actually charged a surcharge of $60 which I wasn't happy about. I have stayed in nicer hotels for free with my Accor free night.
Also thought it was a bit steep having to pay $20 per night for car parking. Should be free for guests.
