While Australia is famed for its natural wonders, in buzzy Broadbeach on Queensland’s Gold Coast, manmade attractions are also a major draw. The high-rise Sofitel, with its 296 rooms, two pools, and access to a casino and shopping mall, is perfect for those who like to be at the center of the action. Pared down rooms in white and brown allow the city or Pacific Ocean views to pop, with all the amenities you’d expect of a major 5 star resort, like marble bathrooms and flatscreen TVs. There are two dining options, both with a sophisticated urban vibe; TC’s sports bar offers a more casual ambiance plus a host of indoor games.
In the Area
The Gold Coast boasts some of Australia’s most renowned surfing beaches like the aptly named Surfers Paradise; beginners can get a taste for the waves at the Cheyne Horan Surf School. The area is also known for its Humpback Whale sightings; boats like Spirit of the Gold Coast offer half day tours. Kids will get a kick out of the region’s theme parks like Sea World, Warner Brothers’ Movie World, and Wet ‘n’ Wild Gold Coast, while animal lovers will adore Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, the perfect place to spot kangaroos, koalas, and crocs.
How to Get There
Stayed for six nights. Started with a good start when shortly after I disembarked, I received a message from the hotel that my key was ready. Nice!
Concierge was friendly, but not always ready to assist (not as proactive as I wish, but I suppose that could be due to shortage of manpower).
Receptionists were very friendly and warm. The rooms, I felt, could be better furnished since this hotel has been pitched as a luxury property. Lovely Lanvin toiletries and luxurious towels :-). There is a large flatscreen TV, but note that the remote is not very responsive (I used it to navigate the room service menu only). Oh, BTW, no HBO.
The location is good. Many restaurants nearby. They have a sad under-used pool, but I suppose it’s because the lovely beach is so nearby.
Breakfast is exactly the same spread everyday. It’s quite exciting when you eat on the first two days. After that, it gets really boring. I have been to many good end hotels, and they make an effort to improve variety every other day. The Asian selection is exceedingly pathetic.
Although mineral water is relatively cheap and can be bought from an adjacent mall, the hotel doesn’t give complimentary mineral water - which is a shame. Also, one has to pay for making local calls from the room phone. The internet is not very stable, and you have to re-log in daily.
Pros were room was spacious and comfortable bed.restuarant was lovely, great food. Also lots of other food options around the area.
Cons were parking and water leaks in carpark, waits at elevators
Overall a nice hotel.
We stayed at Sofitel for two nights during our visit to the Gold Coast
The location of the hotel is its biggest plus point right in broad beach with the beach Accessible within 3-5 mins walk-in and most of the rooms giving. Great view of the sea
Rooms and the breakfast are of good standard
They have a Heated outdoor jacuzzi near the pool area.
We really enjoyed our stay there
Came up to Broadbeach for the annual Blues Festival. Our friends booked the Sofitel. Great choice! Lovely friendly staff, located right next to the festival, 2 minute walk to the beach. Couldn’t ask for a better place to stay. I usually stay in another hotel chain, but I’ve now joined Accor Plus after staying here.
Everything was beautiful and perfect with our five night stay. The hotel is located in one of the best location on the Gold Coast. Paying a little more for the corner room looking down the coast and out to sea was worth it!
