While Australia is famed for its natural wonders, in buzzy Broadbeach on Queensland’s Gold Coast, manmade attractions are also a major draw. The high-rise Sofitel, with its 296 rooms, two pools, and access to a casino and shopping mall, is perfect for those who like to be at the center of the action. Pared down rooms in white and brown allow the city or Pacific Ocean views to pop, with all the amenities you’d expect of a major 5 star resort, like marble bathrooms and flatscreen TVs. There are two dining options, both with a sophisticated urban vibe; TC’s sports bar offers a more casual ambiance plus a host of indoor games.
In the Area
The Gold Coast boasts some of Australia’s most renowned surfing beaches like the aptly named Surfers Paradise; beginners can get a taste for the waves at the Cheyne Horan Surf School. The area is also known for its Humpback Whale sightings; boats like Spirit of the Gold Coast offer half day tours. Kids will get a kick out of the region’s theme parks like Sea World, Warner Brothers’ Movie World, and Wet ‘n’ Wild Gold Coast, while animal lovers will adore Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, the perfect place to spot kangaroos, koalas, and crocs.
How to Get There
Like many Gold Coast hotels, the Sofitel is starting to show its age... but on the flip side the staff were absolutely fantastic, humerous and full of personality which I loved. The rooms are comfortable and pleasant... except for the fact ours had a disgusting smell which can only be described as combining body odour with strong cleaning products! This was hard to get rid of and was evident every time stepping into the room. Because we were only staying a night and knew the hotel was fully booked we decided to put up with it, but would've complained had we been staying longer. The bathrooms are stylish and fully equipped with nice amenities. Overall a good stay, except for the room odour!
Sofitel Broadbeach is a full service hotel in the heart of the upmarket Broadbeach resort area.
I stayed for three nights in an ocean view room 1606. I was attending the low carb convention at the convention centre, a short 5 minute walk away.
I really enjoyed the stay. I found a great package via accorplus which included the ocean view room, breakfast and drinks. I’ve started to really seek the Sofitel’s and their elegant hotels and great service levels. This hotel is quintessentially Sofitel.
The strength of this hotel is its central location next to the restaurant district and close proximity to the spectacular beach. You could probably find a better value apartment but it might not have the central location or the services. Being central would have to be my top priority when searching for a hotel.
The breakfast buffet was really good, a wide array of nice dishes and freshly prepared. My favourite were the chicken dim sum dumplings. The room was huge with balcony. I liked the opening door on to the balcony. Wifi was good and so was air conditioning. If there was one thing I would suggest it’s that I would prefer bedside tables than ledges behind the bed to put things.
I had searched some reviews to find about airport transport. Don’t worry about trying to catch public transport and connecting to light rail etc. Just take the skybus for $15 from the Coolangatta airport. It drops you right outside the hotel.
I dined in the downstairs restaurant. Hotel prices but the fish dish was lovely.
To get back to Brisbane airport I caught an Uber ($25) to Nerang train station (18 mins off peak) and then caught the train ($35) to Brisbane airport. So $60 total. The whole journey, door to door, took 2 hours.
All in all I had a great stay. It is at the higher end of the range but the package I had was very good value. I would stay again if I could find a good deal like the one I found for this stay.
I really enjoy the stay. Bed was really good which was the important thing! Super warm pool and jacuzzi. All staffs were nice and professional. Beach is 5 mins away and so super. Next to hotel is a mall with super market where you can get anything.
