While Australia is famed for its natural wonders, in buzzy Broadbeach on Queensland’s Gold Coast, manmade attractions are also a major draw. The high-rise Sofitel, with its 296 rooms, two pools, and access to a casino and shopping mall, is perfect for those who like to be at the center of the action. Pared down rooms in white and brown allow the city or Pacific Ocean views to pop, with all the amenities you’d expect of a major 5 star resort, like marble bathrooms and flatscreen TVs. There are two dining options, both with a sophisticated urban vibe; TC’s sports bar offers a more casual ambiance plus a host of indoor games.
In the Area
The Gold Coast boasts some of Australia’s most renowned surfing beaches like the aptly named Surfers Paradise; beginners can get a taste for the waves at the Cheyne Horan Surf School. The area is also known for its Humpback Whale sightings; boats like Spirit of the Gold Coast offer half day tours. Kids will get a kick out of the region’s theme parks like Sea World, Warner Brothers’ Movie World, and Wet ‘n’ Wild Gold Coast, while animal lovers will adore Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, the perfect place to spot kangaroos, koalas, and crocs.
How to Get There
Very comfortable room, excellent staff and service. Part of our package included a degustation menu at Room 81. This was fantastic. The breakfast included was also excellent. In a great location and we will definitely return at some stage. Thoroughly recommended.
As a Platinum member i am absolutely disgusted with my treatment. There was construction works going on all night and when i tried to ring reception, no one answered for 15 minutes. Finally i got someone and told them that the works were keeping me up and i was told that there were no construction works, like i was an hearing things. I was then told he would come to my room to hear the concrete saw that was being used, even though i was in bed.
Also, as a platinum member, the norm is to have complimentary water in the room, this was not the case. Also, after receiving a complimentary drink voucher, it cant be used in the Sofitel Bar, as the restaurant and bar were not open. This must be the only first 5 star hotel on the gold coasts which does not have a bar or restaurant open. After leaving the following morning, I then received a room service bill for 1 bottle of water from the mini bar that I was told i could have complimentary due to there being no complimentary water in the room on arrival. I was meant to stay for 3 nights but left after the worst sleep in a hotel i have had and i was not compensated in any way. I've stayed in Sofitel's all over Australia and the world, this is letting the brand down significantly. Don't pay a premium price for this dated, poorly managed misconstrued 5 star hotel, its not worth it.
During our stay at Sofitel we booked for a degustation in their flagship
Room 81 restaurant under Chef Sam Moore and his brigade.
The 5-course began with a vegetarian offering of tiny heirloom beets, goats curd & tarragon.
Clarence river prawns, seaweed & ginger was followed by bbq quando good glazed duck with daikon &
Black garlic. A brief interval and it was rangers valley
Wagyu 7tmbs beef, shiitake & kale.
To finish a white chocolate parfait, rhubarb & rose crystals.
This was an amazing experience enhanced by quietly efficient and well informed staff who explained the intricacies of each dish.
It is a credit to the passionate kitchens in such establishments that they continue to experiment and push the boundaries of culinary expectations. A dining experience to remember.
This is always our first choice in hotels as it is in a great location and always of a high standard. It also helps to be an Accor Plus member to take advantage of the benefits. The staff certainly make you feel welcome.
Returning to the Gold Coast for a conference, I looked at a number of options before deciding to come back to the Sofitel. It was a group booking, and all of our rooms were fantastic. The location is fantastic, with a short walk to the beach and eateries. Would recommend staying here for business or pleasure. I have looked at a number of other options along the coast over the last few years but keep coming back here.
