Terrible experience and still ongoing

We had decided to book the Devere as the hotel we would stay at on the night of our wedding, as well as recommended our friends and family do the same. Our experience has probably one of the worst we have had with a hotel, and we have been to many.

To start, in the weeks leading up to our stay after we had booked, we received numerous phone calls from the hotel ranging from 1:30am to 3am. We called them back on different occasions to ask why the keep calling at the unacceptable time, and all we received was “we’ll call you back once we find out” or “we can’t see anything on our phone records”, when we quite clearly have their number on our call log!

My Wife also tried calling them on numerous occasions to book afternoon tea the day before the wedding. This was met with complete disorganisation, with the booking being lost on numerous occasions, and on the day itself being charged for 15 people when the booking was only for 7. The service itself was also very poor.

On the night of our wedding we were given the wrong room, and had the same key as another booking that hadn’t arrived yet. We were then downgraded and did not receive the honeymoon room we booked. The next day they tried to blame us for this mistake (I still can’t quite understand how the tried to spin that one). The next day I initially met with a lady on reception who was incredibly rude, so I waited to meet with a manager. The Guest relation Manager was very understanding and seemed quite confused how this had all happened. After promising us some money back on top of the amount they overcharged us, and promising that we would not get called again, we have still not been refunded and we have received ANOTHER CALL in the middle of the night.

It’s safe to say that none of the wedding party will be returning here. Absolute shambles of a place.

Falls short of expectations

We thought we were booking a lodge.

It was 2 hotel rooms with a lounge kitchen.

Rooms were typically corporate hotel, comfortable and clean.

Kitchen was under spec.
It had 1 pan 1 frying pan to cook for 4 adults!!
4 dinner plates 4 side plates, so wash as you go!
I don't think so.
2 sofas were beyond their lifespan, carpet needed cleaning and the laminate floor tiles were lifting.
Light bulbs missing
We won't be going back.
Food in restaurants was good.

Pleasant Stay

The Devere Cotswolds Water Park is truly idilic, staying in an Apartment overlooking the lake was lovely.

There were a few things that were a bit annoying, that staying in an apartment falls under self catering, so they don’t replace your towels, give new toilet rolls or make the bed. Given there is no washing machine in the room how would you clean your own towels. There was a door notice in the room stating - Please clean our laundry, which was ironic.

Drinks at the bar are significantly overpriced and for the size of the complex the Spa and facilities are remarkably small, god knows what it would be like if the hotel was at full capacity.

We had some treatments which at £50 each for 25 mins is overpriced and not great value for money.

Staff were very friendly and overall the stay was enjoyable.
