How to Get There
Upon entry to the hotel lobby, I was impressed by the stunning lift shaft design. The rooms are modern and spacious, which I prefer to the fussy traditional styles. Mine overlooked the square but unfortunately, the view was marred by some construction and maintenance work. But this wasn't the hotel's fault. There is a lounge next to the lobby where you can help yourself to free coffee and tea all day. A glass door opens out to the small mall where the tourist office is located.
The best part of this hotel was its location right at the Neumarkt square. With 3 nights at the hotel, I walked past the Frauenkirche at all times of the day, but the clincher for me was how close to the stunning Furstenzüg it was. It enabled me to enjoy repeated viewings of this famous porcelain mural.
With its excellent breakfast in an airy cafe and wonderful location, I would not hesitate to recommend it to my friends. It is only in a smaller city like this where it becomes affordable to stay at a premium location like this.
Vienna House QF is a modern hotel well-situated on Dresden’s Neumarkt, the location of the Frauenkirche. All of Dresden’s main tourist sights are within easy walking distance of the hotel. We stayed in a Refugium room on the top floor, with a good view out over the Neumarkt. There was some noise during the day from construction in the square, but given the amount of building underway just now in central Dresden, that would presumably be a risk wherever one chose to stay. Our two-room suite was comfortable, clean and well-appointed, apart from a strangely inadequate supply of soap in the two bathrooms. We had to request a second hand soap, so that we could wash our hands in both locations, and we were not given a new shampoo even though the one we had been using was now empty. The restaurant only serves breakfast, but given the hotel’s location there is no shortage of places to find lunch and dinner. The breakfast buffet while not extensive had a good range of high-quality choices, and nicely cooked dishes were also available to order. The self-service automated espresso machine made much better coffee than is usually the case for that type of machine.
Right on the main Old square, this small hotel is well located. The room was average and there was a mix up about how it was described on the website and what we got. It wasn’t a big issue but nonetheless not ideal. We had poor service from one member of staff on reception who failed to respond to our request for soap (none was in our room) and who treated any questions from us as if it was a problem that we asked. He never said hello or asked how he could help. In contrast, the other staff were very good.
We stayed three nights at the Vienna House QF Dresden in September. Could not have been a better stay. Very clean, spacious rooms, helpful staff, and awesome breakfast. We appreciated the perfect location also, right by the Frauenkirche and close to tours.
My wife and I stayed 3 nights at Vienna House QF in Dresden as part of a 10-day European trip. Vienna House QF is a relatively new hotel directly on Neumarkt Square in old Dresden. It has a period exterior which blends into the surroundings but a very modern interior. It is easy walking from all the old town sights, many restaurants and bars, as well as a large modern downtown shopping mall. Our room was very large with a great, spacious bathroom. The hotel had free Wi-Fi. We were there on a Saturday, Sunday and Monday night. There was some early morning construction noise across the street on Monday, but otherwise our 4th floor room was quiet. The have a very chic top-floor bar, but unfortunately it was closed Sunday and Monday nights and apparently also occasionally has private parties. We enjoyed it only one night. There is a wonderful view of old Dresden from the bar’s outdoor patio. Front desk staff were absolutely wonderful – both very friendly and helpful. There is self-parking in an underground garage with an elevator directly into the hotel. Parking is 21 Euro per night. Our GPS took us close, but not exactly to the hotel as a street was closed for construction. To unload luggage and check-in, you must carefully drive across the Neumarkt Square and watch out for pedestrians! There is actually an easy it and out entrance to the parking garage across the square which does not require entering the pedestrian area. A great stay at a very reasonable price.
