A traditional five-star hotel in central Berlin, with an address on one of the city's iconic shopping avenues

The Lowdown

Going high-end in Berlin will typically mean opting for cutting-edge modern design or the polar opposite: classical, time-proven luxury. Kempinski Hotel Bristol Berlin fits into the latter category, showcasing old-school European elegance, discreet service and a stunning location on the Kurfürstendamm. Staying on this iconic avenue, you’ll be steps away from luxury boutiques, hip cafés and exquisite restaurants.
Opposite the Uhlandstraße U-Bahn station and minutes from the famous Berlin Zoo, this five-star gem is one of the city’s landmark hotels. Inside, there’s a fine-dining restaurant, a brasserie and a piano bar, plus an upscale spa with a beautiful heated pool and a thermal zone. And that’s not to mention your lovely guest room, where you’ll find regal décor, high-end furnishings and all the mod cons needed for a serene stay in this trendy town.

Each of the 323-square-foot Superior rooms is appointed in a traditionally elegant style and includes a marble en-suite with a bathtub. For a bit more room, upgrade to a Junior suite, where you’ll find 484 square feet of space, as well as a spacious seating area.

Gourmet cuisine is served in the hotel’s Kempinski Grill, and French cuisine can be found at Reinhard’s at Kurfürstendamm, complete with a terrace overlooking the famous avenue. For drinks and cocktails, head to the Gobelin Halle lounge or Bristol Bar.

Keeping with the elegance of the hotel, the spa exudes European sophistication. Facilities include a heated, 59-foot pool, a sauna, a steam room with a cold-water plunge pool, a solarium, a pool bar and a fitness center. A range of high-end therapies and treatments are available.

Located in central Berlin, west of Tiergarten, the hotel sits right on Kurfürstendamm, the famous shopping boulevard, just a short walk from the lovely KaDeWe department store. Its position, opposite the Uhlandstraße U-Bahn station, ensures easy access to just about every Berlin neighborhood, and it’s only a five-minute walk from Berlin Zoo.

Lovely stay with some issues

We had a lovely stay at the hotel and our room was really nice and a great bathroom. I initially rated it much higher but unfortunately some things put a dampener on it. The location is great for shopping and getting to the train station and sites such as the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
The issues we had were that the air con didn’t really work, we could hear babies crying all through the last two nights which wasn’t the hotels fault but we barely slept at all and were offered to move rooms but we were leaving the day they offered so it was pointless. We also paid upon arrival including a guarantee of £50 a night and when we left we were made to pay again despite trying to explain we thought we had already paid before, but the man was quite blunt and assertive with us that we must pay again so we did and decided to monitor if we had been charged twice- turns out they held the extra money for a while until realising we had been right and gave it us back, luckily we had an overdraft for that period of time otherwise we might have been financially uncomfortable for the rest of the trip.

Was this ever a 5 star hotel?

Fabulous location near high end shopping and walkable restaurants , as well as close to local train.
We stayed in a renovated suite with a comfortable king bed with duvets and a sitting room with sofa, desk and mini refrigerator. There was also a miniature bathroom off the sitting room , without a clean towel or soap. Fortunately there was toilet paper at least.
Greeted by door staff on arrival and luggage immediately taken from trunk, but less than immediately delivered to room, even after we called down to inquire.

Renovated bathroom with shower, ( rain shower and handheld with very hot and plentiful water, and a strange coffin shaped bathtub . There was a bidet for those who like the old European touch.
We knew that the only 2 bath towels in the bathroom were clean because they were so hard and thin they looked like relics.
Well worn robes matched the towels.
Toiletries were in tiny bottles certainly not sufficient for two, whatever the brand.
And only one half dollar sized coin of soap was present for the shower , bath and two sinks. We called and requested additional soap and desk seem surprised. “We do not use soap in shower, “ we were lectured.
It seemed useless to indicate there were 2
Sinks a bath and bidet.
Only one glass was present in the room and when I asked housekeeping to provide another glass, I was told that there would be a 5 euro charge from room service, but I could come down myself and pick one up.
The one dirty glass in our room was not replaced by the am housekeeper.
Apparently the management is indifferent to guest comments as many requests for coffee makers have not brought them to the rooms. I speculate there may be some wiring problems in this older facility.
There was only one outlet next to the bed and no overhead reading light option, only a small globe on the night stand.
We had a choice of charging our cell phone or plugging in the lamp, but not both.

If you’ve caught the gist of this review, you now have surmised there was no turndown service .

While the room and facility is certainly adequate, there is minimal attention to detail . I’d rate the place 3.5 and say fine for 1-2 nights if your standards are not high.
Unfortunately we were staying 4 nights for a professional conference, and they had recommended this facility. We’ll share our thoughts with conference planners.

Standards are lower

Stayed here for the 3rd time 5-9th July in a room for 3 people.
Check in was easy and the room was ready when we arrived at 12 noon which we were very pleased about
The room was on the second floor, very bright and clean, bed very comfortable
We had pre booked breakfast at 19 euros each, the variety at breakfast and the standard has deteriorated since we last stayed, the hot food was cold.
We went to use the pool which was closed which is the second time this has happened to us, nothing on the web page to state this and not mentioned at check in.
We wouldn't stay again due to the lower standards at this visit
