Going high-end in Berlin will typically mean opting for cutting-edge modern design or the polar opposite: classical, time-proven luxury. Kempinski Hotel Bristol Berlin fits into the latter category, showcasing old-school European elegance, discreet service and a stunning location on the Kurfürstendamm. Staying on this iconic avenue, you’ll be steps away from luxury boutiques, hip cafés and exquisite restaurants.
Opposite the Uhlandstraße U-Bahn station and minutes from the famous Berlin Zoo, this five-star gem is one of the city’s landmark hotels. Inside, there’s a fine-dining restaurant, a brasserie and a piano bar, plus an upscale spa with a beautiful heated pool and a thermal zone. And that’s not to mention your lovely guest room, where you’ll find regal décor, high-end furnishings and all the mod cons needed for a serene stay in this trendy town.
Each of the 323-square-foot Superior rooms is appointed in a traditionally elegant style and includes a marble en-suite with a bathtub. For a bit more room, upgrade to a Junior suite, where you’ll find 484 square feet of space, as well as a spacious seating area.
Gourmet cuisine is served in the hotel’s Kempinski Grill, and French cuisine can be found at Reinhard’s at Kurfürstendamm, complete with a terrace overlooking the famous avenue. For drinks and cocktails, head to the Gobelin Halle lounge or Bristol Bar.
Keeping with the elegance of the hotel, the spa exudes European sophistication. Facilities include a heated, 59-foot pool, a sauna, a steam room with a cold-water plunge pool, a solarium, a pool bar and a fitness center. A range of high-end therapies and treatments are available.
Located in central Berlin, west of Tiergarten, the hotel sits right on Kurfürstendamm, the famous shopping boulevard, just a short walk from the lovely KaDeWe department store. Its position, opposite the Uhlandstraße U-Bahn station, ensures easy access to just about every Berlin neighborhood, and it’s only a five-minute walk from Berlin Zoo.
How to Get There
I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights while in Berlin for business on my own.
The location is possibly the best thing about this hotel: it's just by Kurfürstendamm, and can be reached by busses that stop at Kurfürstendamm, the underground Uhlandstraße or Kurfürstendamm, and the trains from the nearby Zoologischer Garten. So definitely a 5-star location.
For shopping, the location is perfect as all the luxury brands are just long Kurfürstendamm, and Kadewe som 10 minutes by foot.
I arrived early, and was positively surprised to hear that I could check in at 11am. The check in process was smooth and the staff was welcoming.
I had booked a superior/business room which was larger than expected. There was an actual walk-in closet (too bad my stay was so short I didn't get to use it), a sitting area with a sofa and an arm chair, a large queen size bed and a bathroom with shower/bath combination.
I enjoyed the contemporary drawer type minibar, where I was also able to set some of my own drinks to cool.
Bathrobes and slippers were provided, although the bathrobes were both size XXL. The toiletries from Rituals were a nice touch, however on the small side.
I had a wonderful view towards Kurfürstendamm. The windows were large, so there was a lot of natural light in my room (318).
What I was really missing in the room was tea and coffee supplies. When staying in a 5-star hotel, I expect to have at least these amenities in place.
I tested the pool area and felt the areas very welcoming and well taken care of. Towels were handed and you could also get a bathrobe should you need one. Room service was also available at the pool area. I did not try the sauna, as I learned that the saunas follow the typical German 'textile free' policy, in other words the saunas are mixed and people are naked.
The room service was ok, but to be honest the Ceasar salad I ordered could have been more fresh. But when you're hungry and don't feel like leaving your hotel room, the room service is pretty ok. There are many good cafés and restaurants around the hotel, for example Literaturhaus Berlin has a lovely cafe/restaurant that also serves fantastic food. And it's literally across the street.
Overall, a really good hotel without massive downsides and good value for money.
We were here for 5 days in February and had a delightful stay. Mark, the concierge, was very helpful in obtaining symphony tickets for us as well as advising us about places to eat and how to take the S-bahn or U-bahn to get to our destinations. The rooms are lovely, the bedding is comfortable, and the attention is very good all around. We enjoyed the relaxed bar in the evenings with attentive service people and comfortable seating.
This is our favorite hotel in Berlin and we were somewhat concerned when they lost the Kempenski brand but they have retained their wonderful concierge and their tremendous level of housekeeping and restaurant, bar and breakfast service. We come for opera and ballet wks, so sleep in, which is easy for its so clean quiet and comfortable. We shall return👍
Stayed here from 06/01 until 11/01.Despie arriving before lunchtime my room was ready.A nice two bedroom unit with plenty of space, well laid out bathroom with bath and shower and plenty of toiletries.Plenty of towels also bath robes anf flip flops.
Room was spotless and was maintained like that for my whole visit.Room made up every day and fresh towels available should you need them.
Breafast offered a huge choice and I think great value for money.
The whole place is full of character with very helpful staff from reception to cleaning staff. The staff in the lounge area were also very attentive and smart in appearance as were all the staff. There is also a separate smoking lounge.
In conclusion a first class hotel, well worth the money.
The whole experience is positive but one couldn't notice some little flaws. For instance, bathroom could be better organized, more guest-friendly. Or: you couldn't watch BBC on TV. On the other hand, the pool is wonderful as well as sauna-zone... Don't get me wrong - you certainly get what you pay for but some little improvements would make this hotel excellent. Keep my fingers crossed that eventually this will be the case...
