In the heart of Berlin’s hip Mitte district, Generator Berlin (or Gen Berlin, as it’s known) is a new breed of “poshtel” with hip hotel looks and amenities, and wallet-friendly rates. Berlin interior designer Ester Bruzkus recruited local artists to create the cool urban look that’s on show, from the wood-paneled lobby to the white-on-white shared and private guestrooms. All are decked out with purpose-built bunk beds, soft pillows and duvets, full-length mirrors, lock-up storage facilities and en suite tile bathrooms. Premium rooms are worth the splurge for the privacy, extra space, desk area and host of extras, including late checkout, complimentary toiletries and drink vouchers. Gen Berlin is a natural party starter, hosting weekly club nights and seasonal outdoor events, as well as open mike nights and table tennis competitions in the communal game room. Food is available from breakfast (7 to 10 a.m.) through lunch and dinner (noon to 10 p.m.), and there are also well-stocked vending machines for the late night munchies.
In the Area
Mitte is to East Berlin what the East Village is to New York: a gritty, once rundown area that scrubbed up well and has attracted more than its share of designer boutiques, coffeehouses and new luxury apartments. Call it a renaissance if you like, but as location goes, Gen Berlin is at the heart of most of Berlin’s most popular shopping, including Butterfly Soul Fire, Schwarzhogerzeil and Starstyling Shop; check out the latter for crazy modern attire and knitwear. When you get tired of shopping, pop into Restaurant Reinstoff for an haute twist on traditional German fare (think local catfish with sweet-and-sour radishes) or Monsieur Vuong’s for the short list of classic Vietnamese dishes in an uber-hip setting.
How to Get There
The ultimate experience, everything were perfect!!! Was super clean, everywhere, not only our room, but social areas too. The staff was polite. Caffe bar and bar have quality product and their price is okey.
If you find the place near by the station, it’s your choice. Easy to go everywhere you need e.g. way to Berlin Wall, Brandenburg gate. And easy walk to Deutsches Historisches Museum , Lustgarten and nearby.👏
A group of 14 guys going to Berlin for a stag party. This hostel was great value, clean, had really good facilities and perfectly situated for getting around this massive city. Would definitely recommend.
I had a big issue with other guests 6 people (they were friends), they came at 2 am and start screaming and wanted to fight fight me, it was such a dangerous situation. I run to reception, it was one person that apparently allow them to stay in the hostel. He changed me of room since I strongly asked
This place came highly recommended to stay for when in Berlin! First impression were great, however an unfortunate experience left us not enjoying our stay. We left our chargers in the plugs by our beds while we headed out for the day. Once back we found that they had disappeared, so we went to front desk to ask about missing items. The worker was extremely unhelpful and made us feel as though everything is our fault. It was awful customer service and kept blaming us for not knowing that their system is currently faulty. This was a system error yet the worker was rude to us about the stuff being taken. The next day they did finally find our items from cleaning staff. I wish they treated us with more respect. Rooms were nice but be careful and safe with belongings!
