Sophisticated bed & breakfast in Midtown fuses art, history, and high-tech amenities

The Lowdown

A refreshingly chintz-free zone, this 19th century mansion-turned-six-room inn offers contemporary décor–think polished hardwood floors, a muted color palette and luxe fabrics–accented by an impressive art collection that includes prominent names from the 20th and 21st centuries. Common spaces include a front parlor with a baby grand piano, an ideal spot to enjoy a house-baked snack, which might include treats like lemon bars or goat cheese, rosemary, and honey filo parcels.

In the Area

Get in the Gone with the Wind spirit at the Margaret Mitchell House, the Tudor Revival mansion where the Atlanta native wrote her famous novel, then go highbrow at the High Museum of Art, which features contemporary art and architecture from starchitects Richard Meier and Renzo Piano. Take a green break in Piedmont Park, which offers diversions from horse-and-carriage rides and a farmer’s market to winter ice skating, then continue the green theme at Woodfire Grill, known for its locavore-oriented kitchen.

31st anniversary was super
Reviewed 5 days ago

31st anniversary trip to Atlanta. Stonehurst was perfect, walking distance to everything but felt like we were in the country. Wonderful rooms, we thought we were the only ones there it was so quiet. The gourmet breakfast was amazing, met very interesting guests from all over. Got us ready for our daily hikes to Sawnee mountain and Stone Mountain, also visited the botanical gardens. Stunning. There are lots of great restaurants within walking distance. The sweet and savory snacks she has out are yummy. We also fell in love with the sheets. Even bought a set, they are magical, it makes me feel like we are still on vacation.

Beautiful Bed & Breakfast in Midtown, Atlanta - WHO KNEW?
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We live in Atlanta but decided to take a "staycation" in town. I did not know much about Stonehurst except that they house artists for a local theatre company of which I serve on the board. The house is magnificent and it's right in the middle of town. We walked to dinner, to the high museum, to a comedy club, and returned back to the room late in the evening. Our room was huge and gorgeous. I actually wanted to move in because of the vast amount of closet space, the sitting area, and the beautiful decor. Of course, the breakfast was awesome - great, strong coffee and a delicious 2 course meal. I highly recommend Stonehurst Place to anyone visiting from out of town or anyone here in Atlanta who wants a quick and easy escape.

Came here with my girlfriend for her birthday. Called ahead and asked if they would be willing to surprise her with a birthday balloon or something similar (odd request, I know. Just thought I'd ask). John said he'd handle it. When we got to our room, there was a big "happy birthday" balloon floating from a nice vase of colorful flowers invitingly arranged on the table. She loved it. THAT is above-and-beyond service and indicative in every way of the service throughout our stay.

The food, homemade by Grace, is out of this world. Worth staying here for that alone. Each breakfast was MULTI-COURSE, there was always a variety of pastries out and wine or soda to be had at your leisure (I "raided" the spread every night at about 1am).

The place itself is beautiful. The feeling of luxury began when we walked in and only grew when we went to our suite (the master suite). Some of the standout features include the shower, which is massive, and a great whirlpool tub.

There was a time I was skeptical about B&B's at all; now I will always choose one for a couple's outing. John and Grace are the perfect hosts. I cannot recommend this place more highly!

Spent 2 nights at this wonderful B&B. Everything was perfectly executed. All the furnishings and decoration in the rooms and common areas are beautiful and in keeping with Hollywood glamour.

The food was wonderful both in flavors and execution. John and Grace are consummate hosts.

The location is great and I would recommend to anyone wanting a respite from chain hotels to book a reservation for some pampering.
