How to Get There
Only stayed here for one night but have only good things to say, the views of the river and downtown Savannah from the hotel are beautiful. The free ferry service is so convenient, runs on time, and goes until late night! so no need for ubers/lyft or worrying about parking if you go out into town. Our room was clean and bed was really comfortable, the breakfast was really nice, some might find it pricey. Staff was friendly on arrival. I did make use of the spa's steam room and sauna which are included in the resort fee. :) made for a very relaxing experience. I would go back.
Normally I am not one to complain. However I feel compelled to write this review. I travel a good bit for business. I was in Savannah for a conference. The hotel is located next to the convention center. That should tell you something. Think captive audience.
I have no problem with the room or the rank and file staff. The room was clean and offered a excellent view. The staff was friendly and did the best they could. Management is the problem here.
Do not sleep late on a Sunday. If you show up at the main restaurant at 10:20AM, you will not be seated. The restaurant has to close from 10:30 to 11:00 to switch from breakfast to brunch. It must be a very complicated process. I did not stick around to find out. Do not forget the hotel is on an island. All the other restaurants in Savannah are across the river. If you really want bacon and eggs, you can drive over the bridge, take a ferry boat across the river, swim across the river, or wait. All the options take about thirty minutes. They do serve somewhat edible tar and cardboard,( coffee and croissants) in the bar downstairs for breakfast
One of my fellow conventioneers is partially disabled. He has a hard time just walking and breathing. We do not ask him to chew gum. Against my better judgement we decided to have lunch in the main hotel restaurant. Pardon the pun, but I already had a bad taste in my mouth from the main restaurant. We should have pushed and pulled him all over Savannah in the warm July weather with his half functioning lung.
Anyhow because there was a convention and the hotel was completely full, there were only two servers for the whole restaurant. The manager must have been working in the kitchen because we never saw him or her. I would say two cheeseburgers and a Reuben sandwich would not be that complicated. In less than two hours, but more than one hour our food finally arrived lukewarm at our table. And we were thankfull! Also because the food took so long there was no charge for our two ice waters and the one sweet tea. Free ice water!
I was having so much fun at the convention, I decided to check-out one day early. I was at the front desk at 7:30AM the next morning. I swapped my key cards for a printed receipt. The receipt was correct at that time. However when I got home the extra night magically appeared on the receipt they emailed me.
After three calls to the hotel, I finally talked to someone with the brainpower to make a decision. It seems I was not charged an extra night. I was charged an early check-out fee. Unbelievably the fee was exactly the same amount as the extra night.
There I feel better now! I hope you find this review helpful.
Family of 4 arrived July 4th 2018 6:30pm. Check was supposed to be after 4pm and we had checked in via the app. When we arrived, we valet parked, super nice car gentleman helped us unload as we began to check in. Our room was NOT ready. Ok, things happen, they offer to look up our stuff, give us a $75.00 credit, access to the pool. They would be in touch. We were denied access to the pool, so I proceeded back to the desk, in the back of the line for the second time, while I noticed all of our possession sitting in the lobby unattended and obviously NOT locked up. As I mentioned the fact the we could not enter the pool and our belongings were not locked, I was told they would look into it. 30 minutes later after guarding it myself they final put it away. We finally got access to the pool after 1 hour. When our room was ready 1.5 hours later, they could not even remember us or where our belongings were. After all was located I notice part of my computer was missing. I asked and asked and asked. Nobody cares, so to this day, I still do not have my missed parts to my computer, never received the $75.00, and NO body cared. I told them at the desk Saturday, NO body cares. We will never ever stay at the Westin S again.
We’ve been stayed at Westin in many different locations, but our experience at this Savannah Westin was disappointing.
First off, the front desk lady gave us incorrect information during the check-in. She told us that we need to go somewhere else for the July 4th fireworks (turned out that this hotel has front seat for the fireworks), we need to wear the wristbands for the entire stay for the ferry ride (turned out that it was only for the fireworks), and we don’t need to bring anything for the pre-purchased breakfast (turned out that we needed to receive the breakfast voucher at the front desk). Next day, we reported a plumbing issue to the same front desk lady but later (after hours of waiting) we found out that she didn’t even report our problem to the maintenance crew. We felt like receiving 2 star service from 4 star hotel.
This hotel seems to have a plumbing issue. We stayed on the third floor, but the hallway and our room smelled like sewage for the whole stay.
Overall, I give 3 star for this hotel since other hotel staffs and the restaurant servers were pleasant and provided excellent quality of services.
I have stayed at this resort 16 times. Maurice the bellman has helped me most of those visits and he is outstanding, always remembers my name. The facility is well maintained and beautiful. Rooms are nice, the rainshower head in the shower is outstanding. The food in the Aqua Star is good but the service is very slow. All the staff I interacted with were pleasant. My only problem and one I have experienced before is having my personal credit card charged for the room when my company had reserved my room with a credit card prior to my check in. To be fair, this has happened at other hotels. Always get a printed copy when you check out and review the charges.
