How to Get There
Our family visited Savannah for two nights and chose to stay at the Westin because many of the historical hotels won’t take teens. What a stroke of luck! This is a gorgeous resort with all of the modern amenities; a super friendly and helpful staff; PLUS a free ferry to downtown Savannah! We will definitely stay here again!!
We stayed in the Marina for three weeks in 2014. We utilized every option in the Hotel and it was excellent. The water taxi over to Savannah is a easy option to get back and forth across the river. We also returned a year later and stayed in the hotel, the rooms were very comfortable and in very Westin style, clean, comfortable with a great view.
My husband and I stayed three nights for a conference. The hotel was very busy with multiple events going on. The common areas were always packed and there were three times that we waited more than 10 minutes for an elevator. Members of some conference groups were very aggressive and pushed ahead of those waiting to get on the elevators, which made the wait even longer.
It seemed optional for housekeeping staff to clean rooms. More than half of our group had at least one day when the rooms were not taken care of--beds not made, towels not replaced, etc. When we called the front desk to inquire why our room hadn't been freshened up, the staff seemed to be spiteful and threw all of our dirty towels in the sink and still did not make up the room. The staff members at the front desk offered us points and free breakfast instead of arranging to have the room addressed. We were at a conference where all meals were included and we don't usually stay at this hotel chain. So, meals and points were a poor substitute for the basic service we should have been entitled to receive. It also seemed that the hotel had us mixed up with another room. We heard the staff loudly complaining that we had demanded a microwave oven. We did not request a microwave oven and had no desire to cook since meals were included with the conference. We also had a message on our phone explaining that they did not have a microwave for us. Overall, this hotel did not have a good system for pleasing its guests and ensuring a comfortable stay.
We spent Christmas here a couple of years ago, because the Hyatt Regency (across the river was undergoing some renovations). We had what was supposed to be one of the best rooms (upper floor, with balcony over the river). It was a dump, with snooty staff and hazardous equipment (I still have a scar on my forearm caused by the sliding door to the balcony).
DO NOT STAY.... this may be a lovely resort, I do not know as I had to cancel due to family emergency at home.
I cancelled 4 days before I was set to arrive. The day AFTER I cancelled, this hotel charged my credit card not one nights stay but TWO nights stay and I am still waiting to receive my credit back to my credit card.
I had emailed the hotel the day I realized I had been charged (which was 2 days after I would have arrived) NO response to my email which included a screen shot of my credit card statement AND the cancellation email I had. I called two days later, received voice mail of the accounting department so spoke to someone in management, said she would call or email me back, NOTHING, called again 3 days later (as it was now the weekend) received voice mail again of accounting department so pressed 0 and spoke with someone who again said they would call me back... nothing but finally received an email saying charges would be reversed but no decency of a phone call like promised. Called again today to say should have been a faster way to receive the refund since you certainly can take it out of my account fast and received a you should call your credit card and dispute the charges. So very not impressed with this hotel. Finally last guy told me they can't call internationally from their hotel which is why I never received a phone call back well couldn't someone email me?? They all had my email! And accounting department NEVER answer their phone. Must have a lot of accounting complaints. I work in a busy office and answer my phone?
Never again... all try to be helpful but no help at all and no common courtesy of emails back.
Be very wary of the charges if staying here!
