How to Get There
Great place to stay while visiting historic Savannah. The staff was excellent and we were welcomed at every corner. The hotel was quiet at night for a good night's rest and the staff were very accommodating.
I stayed here with my son in the fall when we went on a trip to Savannah. This hotel is right in the heart of Savannah right by River Street. There is a little store inside of the hotel and a restaurant. Breakfast is not included and you have to pay to park, the valets take your car. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. The room also had Starbucks coffee so that was much better than the usual hotel room coffee. This was a very classy place and we would stay there again.
What can I say about the Hyatt that people don’t already know. I love the Hyatt and this location did not disappoint. Actually I think this may have been the best Hyatt that I’ve ever been in. The inside is just beautiful and the minute you walk in you feel welcomed. There is so many different areas you can sit in and feel comfortable. They even have an outside area up on the 4th floor that was spectacular. I loved my room and the bed was so comfortable. The room was small but we didn’t need anything huge so I thought if was perfect. I would definitely stay here again if I ever come back to Savannah. Oh and the location was PERFECT. Literally right on the water and in the middle of everything.
I don't own a television but I like to watch World Cup Soccer and because the games begin at 8am I've had to find local restaurants open at that hour that show the matches on their teevees. Luckily, I found the Hyatt Regency has a lobby cafe with wide screens and buffet worth the $22 price tag. My only issue with the food is quality of certain items but overall I found it to my liking:
The buffet has four stations: breads, smoked salmon and fresh fruit, omelette to order, and ready-made scrambled eggs with grits and bacon/sausage.
The planked smoked salmon is good. So good that I cut off a hunk and asked the cook to blend it into an omelette which she was happy to oblige. Otherwise, she can run up any combination of spinach, mushrooms, cheese, ham, onion, tomato into an omelette of your choice. Hard boiled eggs, if you'd rather. Ready-made waffles to the side.
If you're in a hurry there is a station with the obligatory scrambled eggs, grits, hash browns, bacon and sausage. The meats are excellent quality. There is not a huge assortment of fresh fruit but there are strawberries and melon.
There are several cold cereals and hot oatmeal with the breads, which I thought were the one item I'd improve: the croissant is way off, more like a roll shaped like a croissant. If I had one thing to change on the entire buffet it would be the croissant. Otherwise you're down to a banana muffin which isn't as good as it should be, either, or a slice of pumpkin pie that is less than traditional but a treat to find on a breakfast buffet.
That leaves us with juice-- which is not fresh squeezed-- and coffee-- which is merely unexceptional, institutional and second cup resistant.
Service is cheerful and attentive, the tvs are accommodating, and the lobby has been recently renovated so that you feel more like you're a guest in a new hotel rather than a renovated building that is 40 years old. If you're local, beware: hotel parking is $30 in a town where parking has become a scandal. However, the free shuttle drops off and picks up a block away every ten minutes.
Expect to find me at my place at the bar every morning from now until the middle of July.
We stayed for 5 nights and arrived on friday afternoon, probably the busiest part of the week. Check-in took more than 30 minutes but in the next 5 days I have not seen any queue.
The room suffered from a few defects (sink, safe and and TV rebooting every 20 minutes). All but the TV were fixed - staff was very attentive. We had a riverside room on the 7th floor. Great view on the passing ships.
The quality of the breakfast buffet is good but the choice is limited if you compare it to other Hyatt Regency’s (Orlando). The diner options are good and service is really friendly and fast.
The reason for us to choose this hotel was its location right on top of River Street. We’ve spent hours having drinks, diner and watching the action from the terrace overlooking River Street.
