The terracotta and white façade of this French Riviera gem is pure Old World Europe: shutters, iron balconies, and the hotel’s name in big block letters. But inside all is contemporary and breezy–the 38 rooms feature sleek lines, modern white furniture, and a soothing color scheme incorporating autumnal tones, with dazzling views over Nice’s promenade and the Baie des Anges. The hotel is within a few minutes walk of the Old Town, and it shares private beach facilities with another resort.
In the Area
The time-honored glamour of the Cote d’Azur is right on your doorstep, with the Promenade des Anglais winding past the hotel. The sun-seeking expats who give this palm tree-lined Mediterranean promenade its name are still in evidence, but if you’d rather escape the preening throngs, head to one of Nice’s most feted restaurants, Christian Plumail, where the Michelin-starred chef of the same name dishes up a memorable two-course menu at lunch for just $30. Then take in a performance at the magnifique Nice Opera House, which also houses the ballet and the philharmonic orchestra.
How to Get There
Location, location, location as they say !
The location of Hotel Suisse really is a huge bonus. We had a room on the fifth floor which offered spectacular views to wake up to every morning. Room was comfortable with two small armchairs which offered a comfortable spot to relax - chairs on balcony were a little basic.
We tried breakfast at the hotel once but considered it to be very expensive compared to local offerings. We preferred to go to the Old Town and enjoy the sunshine on the terrace of a cafe with locals and a very entertaining waiter ! The breakfast area and bar area in the hotel seemed totally wasted space - it was a shame as much could have been done to improve the use and popularity of these areas.
I was a disappointed and dismayed that when I asked to borrow an umbrella on our last evening - the only rain in our whole stay - I was refused by the staff on reception.
Given that we had stayed there for 8 nights and therefore spent a not inconsiderable sum with them this response felt very mean spirited.
I would return to the hotel because of its location - proximity to waterfront and charming old town. The actual facilities of the hotel would not draw me on their own.
Very nice hotel, ideally located close to the old city, on the water with superb views.
Staff is helpful and friendly. Rooms and bathrooms are adequate. They were clean. Value for the price.
Small bar, good breakfast.
We had a lovely room on the 4th floor and yes those pictures of their view are real. The room is cozy, clean and comfortable. Large double comfortable bed. Great expresso maker. Small fridge filled with plenty of beverages. Hotel staff was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed their breakfast buffet twice. Plenty of variety of breakfast items. The location is perfect for old Nice. Walking distance to numerous bistros, restaurants and bars. We had a wonderful time in Nice and enjoyed our stay at the hotel Suisse.
