What a lovely place. The rooms although rather small for a week's stay with no seating area and rather poor air conditioning The rooms were clean, beds comfy. Bathroom fine. Breakfast was excellent so much choice. Lovely courtyard. Near to shops, restaurants and the Promenade.

Return visit to the Ellington Hotel

Having stayed in this lovely hotel in 2016, we eagerly sought out the bar for pre-dinner champagne. The hotel staff were friendly and efficient, as experienced previously, and we visited twice this trip, from our base in the Hotel Boscolo nearby.

Quiet, handy location

Charming boutique hotel that is easy walking distance to plenty of shops, restaurants and the beach. Very tidy and clean. All staff have been friendly and helpful. Would stay here again if returning to Nice.

Let's start with the plusses. The Ellington enjoys a great location in a reasonably quiet yet central location from where you can easily reach both the commercial and historic centres of this charming city. The staff are very helpful too and the building looks great from the outside. Inside the décor is fine in the public areas, though a little faded. The rooms however are very dated with a distinct flavour of the early 90s, liberally decorated in very dark brown and red for example. But it's the attention to details that lets it down. Curtains not hanging properly, microscopic wardrobes where you can at best hang a couple of shirts (and doors not closing properly either), very dated bathroom with no real shower but an attachment instead. Basically my room at least wasn't of modern 4 star requirements and beyond a mere lick of paint but full refurbishment instead. Luckily in Nice you don't tend to spend too much time in your hotel room, but worth bearing in mind if you were planning special occasions (it was a wedding anniversary for me).

Not what I expected!

I was very disappointed in the room after passing this hotel many times and thinking it would be great from the outside. The room was so small there wasn't even a place to put your suitcase, the carpet was disgustingly dirty and the bed was like sleeping on a cot. Their public places look really great, but their rooms are not worth the money at all!
