Just a few miles from the coast, sandwiched between Nice and Cannes, the rustic French town of Vence in the South of France spills down the hillside into miles of sleepy countryside. Hotel Cantemerle sits close to the centre, its grounds an oasis of smooth green lawns, blooming flowers and shady Mediterranean trees.
Spend your days sipping champagne by the outdoor pool as you bask on a white sun lounger. Graze at the gourmet French restaurant, where you can sit out on the garden terrace look out over the water. To top this all off, there’s also a spa with an indoor pool, gym, solarium and authentic Turkish hammam – could there be anywhere more idyllic on the sought-after Côte d’Azur? Unsurprisingly, this property has earned itself a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
How to Get There
Cantemerle is a real gem, located maybe 10 min walk from the centre of Vence village (uphill all the way though 😞). It really is a hotel suitable for couples, or adults. There is nothing really for children there, and to be honest the relatively few kids there during our stay were a bit of a nuisance, considering most adults wanted to just relax by the small pool.
Rooms are lovely, spacious, and clean.
Service was excellent, staff were pleasant and friendly.
While it is in a quiet location, it’s merely 20 mins drive from nice, Antibes, and about 10 mins from St. Paul de vence.
Minor quibbles - while it’s advertised as a spa hotel, they don’t have treatment rooms per se, just a thalaso style pool, sauna and steam room. A couple of spa treatment rooms with onsite staff would be welcome.
Breakfast -it is completely self service, and the machine for cooking your own boiled egg is fairly useless. It would be lovely if you could order eggs/omelettes etc at breakfast rather than having to faff around trying to boil the, yourself.
In terms of value for money - it’s expensive enough, but comparable to other hotels in the area, and it really is lovely.
This place is amazing. Calm. Beautifull. The nature around is gorgeous.
The room was great with a small terrasse. There's a small indoor swimming pool. And spa perfect... crew is nice and helpful. If you need a buble of beauty this is the place.
I stayed here for 6 nights with my husband and daughter in a duplex room which was great. Restaurant very good too and the grounds are amazing with plenty of sunbeds. There's are two lovely swimming pools one indoor and one outside. I found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
We were on a Back-Roads Touring holiday in Provence.
Great leisure amenities - an indoor and outdoor pools.
Bedroom was large - bedroom upstairs with lounge etc. downstairs - patio area outside led to the pool.
Seafood buffet on Night 1 very good - shame though that they didn't offer salads with it.
Town offered a good selection of restaurants if you didn't want to eat in the hotel - which restaurant apparently has a good local reputation.
Superb location and excellent service. Loved the hammam and indoor pool. The grounds are impeccably groomed and the hotel is the perfect setting for the beginning of our idyllic travels through Provence.
