A boutique hotel in the lovely commune of Vence, with gourmet dining, verdant grounds and a tranquil spa

The Lowdown

Just a few miles from the coast, sandwiched between Nice and Cannes, the rustic French town of Vence in the South of France spills down the hillside into miles of sleepy countryside. Hotel Cantemerle sits close to the centre, its grounds an oasis of smooth green lawns, blooming flowers and shady Mediterranean trees.
Spend your days sipping champagne by the outdoor pool as you bask on a white sun lounger. Graze at the gourmet French restaurant, where you can sit out on the garden terrace look out over the water. To top this all off, there’s also a spa with an indoor pool, gym, solarium and authentic Turkish hammam – could there be anywhere more idyllic on the sought-after Côte d’Azur? Unsurprisingly, this property has earned itself a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.

WOnderful stay in Vence

Had a good stay with my wife and 10 year old daughter. The room, patio and pool were all very nice and rooms are quiet. Ample free parking next to rooms was very convenient. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel, but breakfast buffet was quite good.

Fantastic week

The service was superb, the food was delicious, in fact the whole week was wonderful for us all. My grandson who is 3 years really loved the food too. Nothing was too much for the staff at any time. Can’t wait to return again.

Hotel or Restaurant - they are not sure.

Stayed in a Duplex room - fine, comfortable bed, plenty of storage and 2 x TV. Bathroom and toilet were separate - all functional.
It was old fashioned and had tiles like those seen in changing rooms, the small sofa was basic. Nice terrace.
Outside was lovely, all eating areas around pool, plenty of sun beds. There was a Spa. The bar was really a storage area . Breakfast - plenty of choice - all meals outside. Evening meals not Sunday. Monday - good food, hotel guests only.
Rest of the week the meals in the evening were ‘gastronomique’ with prices to match. We had one on the Tuesday and it was so bad we were refunded our cost. After that we walked into Vence or ate at lunchtime. One night we could not have a meal anyway as there was a large function taking place which also involved the pool and area being unavailable from the morning of the day until half way through the next morning. There was other seating areas but they were mainly in the shade so not useful for most. The event looked great fun. They also had a large christening party the day we arrived and a company meal on the lunch time of the day after the ‘event’, when we had tables and chairs moved around us while we were having breakfast. Lunches - mainly salads were good.
Staff were very friendly and efficient but the owners need to decide if they are a restaurant with rooms or an hotel with an expensive restaurant. As a hotel guests I would have liked to have the option of a set menu at set prices every day.
