How to Get There
As a Starwood loyal, I have to say I was a little disappointed in this hotel. It’s not terrible and the price was a good value, but it just didn’t live up to the standards I’m used to with Westin and Starwood hotels.
The valet guys are awesome. The location was great! But there are just a lot of little things that are off. Keys wouldn’t work. We only had 3 towels, 2 hand towels and 1 washcloth for a family of 3. The air didn’t seem to work in auto mode in our room so we had to run the fan all night. And as a platinum member, I wasn’t offered any type of premium service or room. Overall it just wasn’t great.
The Westin Tampa Bay is not full service Marriott quality...not by a long shot in my experience. Let me start by saying that I am a life long Marriott fan...having stayed over 1100 nights in Marriott hotels and have been a Silver, Gold or Platinum member for over 23 years, the last 12 as Platinum Premier Elite. I LOVE Marriott...and I know what to expect from full service Marriott hotels. One of those things that matter to me is a warm breakfast....but not HERE. Another of those things that matters is a well kept property...but not HERE. (see attached pics.) I do not expect to have cleaning ingredients and a dirty cloth on my work table in my room when I first get in. When I went to the "Executive Lounge" for the "free" breakfast, I was shocked...no eggs, no warm entrees at all...just fruit, yogurt and hard boiled eggs. I think they may have had oatmeal. I went down to the front desk to inquire if I was in the right place...and I was assured that I was...and that they would not "comp" me for a hot breakfast. I have never NOT had a hot breakfast at a full service Marriott...until today. Admittedly, I got a bit mad with the front desk woman (about 8:45 AM) and asked to speak with the GM...but was told that Scott , the Assistant GM, was not due in till 3:00 today. I sent him an email and also a voice mail. He did call me back around 12:20 and told me it was hotel policy to only offer a cold, continental breakfast and that they could not accommodate me for a hot breakfast. I was shocked! This may seem trivial to some of you, and I understand that, but it was not trivial to me. I was made to feel as though my loyalty and business was not appreciated...and he really didn't seem to care. He kind of dug in his heels and told me NO. OK...so now I say NO to Westin....and so should Marriott. Look at the attached pictures and tell me if this is acceptable for a FULL SERVICE Marriott...or any hotel to be honest. This hotel has a lot to learn about Marriott quality and Marriott Customer service. I will not stay here ever again...and I am in Tampa a few times a month. Thanks Scott for making me feel "special" in your hotel and for ensuring that your employees are well trained and that your hotel is kept in tip top shape. That picture that shows the Starwood "PREFERRED" Guest Floor says a thousand words about the attention to detail here...and their attitude towards their "guests." Marriott should be appalled...I know I am.
Stayed during my visit and have to say one of the best hotels in Tampa. Everything was 4 star treatment. Had a slight problem with room A/C but was moved promptly. The staff was super friendly, valet parking and a great restaurant with the best breakfast imaginable. I can’t say enough great things about this place, from the contemporary touches to the water view from the room. Will definitely stay again. Hey just tell it like it is.
Me and my boyfriend booked a 4 day trip to The Westin Tampa Bay. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip. The staff are AMAZING! They are so nice and helpful. The valet was so convenient for such a good price. The food at Aqua was also really good. We enjoyed the jet ski rentals but make sure you go for a whole hour because 30 minutes is not long enough. The indoor pool and hot tub are 24/7 which was great for me and my boyfriend for late night swims. The rooms were clean and the best was especially comfy. The only cons were that a majority of the beach chairs were broken. They also ran out of propane for the fire pits which sucked because we really wanted to sit outside in the evening but it was cold. Also, the rooms have a fully stocked mini bar that you can’t touch unless you want to get charged. It would be nice if they had fridges and a microwave for leftovers.
Overall a very good experience!
I stayed for 3 nights while attending a conference in the hotel. The room was spacious and very clean, I enjoyed having a full walk-in shower that was separate from the bath. Decent shampoo and conditioner is always nice, as is the mouth wash. Very comfy beds and linen.
My room was 1027, the views of the Bay were beautiful in the morning. There's close access to running trails and a good gym. I was too busy for the pool, but loved having Starbucks on-site. Catering was awesome, some of the best food I've had at a meeting. Friendly staff and quick service.
I would gladly return.
