How to Get There
Night 2 - More than likely this was a Palmetto roach. He was huge, about 2 - 3 inch long and extremely fast. My husband was unable to catch the bug as it crawled under the baseboard into the wall.
Maintenance came within 30 minutes and sprayed our room. That night the offered to move us but only had one room in the Lodge with one bed, we needed two beds, there were three of us. With them spaying I didn’t think much of it and didn’t take the transfer.
That morning I spoke to the concierge Frank and was told, “In cases like this I am allowed to credit 25% of your room fee.” I said, “In cases like this,” so this is a KNOWN issue? I was told yes.”
At that time I also asked for a round of golf. He said, he’d let me know. When we returned from our day in St. Augustine, no call, no note, no concierge at the desk. My husband played and we said they’d need to credit us.
Restless night based on worrying what was in the walls. I finally got up to use the bathroom 1:25am. We had a towel on the floor and there was roach! I rolled the towel, took out to the hall so I could see and determine what was on the towel and also so I could take pics. Low and behold another roach!
I can’t sleep, it’s now 2:40am. The manager will be in at 8am and I will get a call at that time.
They have agreed to move us to a different room (13) and refund 50% of the stay. When I talked to Victor the manager of the Hammock, it was as if he was doing me a favor in crediting 50% of our room and giving us a credit for golfing (Kasondra - Concierge told me this was not to be credited). I had to fight with them by saying, if they didn’t, I would make a public review and take this above them to corporate.
I asked for 100% refund. Victor and Alberta told me no! Each and everyone I talked to never denied the roach issue and I also found other reviews, stating roach issues with the Hammock.
After the second incident, they offered to move us to a different room. Please note, the rooms in the hotel (big tower buildings) are extremely dated. The property was built 16 years ago and these rooms have not been updated. We opted against these rooms. They were able to get us a different room in the same building (The Lodge) on the other end. All’s I can say is shame on me!
Day 4 Morning -
I woke up at 7:15am, opened the curtains to find a baby roach on the door by the lock. With that we ended our vacation and checked out immediately by 7:45am. I told the concierge Karina we were leaving because of the NEW roach I found that morning. She just said, “I’m sorry!”
Because of the response I received from Victor the manager property of, 50% was all they could do with the golf credit, I need not voice my issues to the Hammock, roach infested hotel! He told me they had acted fast and they should have only done the 25%. The lack of concern and my confidence in the management with the new roach, I have opted to submit my review and contact corporate.
I explained to him, I was not complaining about the following-
1. Mold in the shower
2. Kants in the bathroom.
3. Splatter of something on the walks, walls not wiped.
4. Insects in my window seal, where I pulled my blinds all the way back in “hopes” the cleaning people would wipe and clean.
5. Cobwebs on the outside patio with spiders. I used one of hand wash towels, to clean the patio. So I could enjoy free of cobwebs and spiders
6. The dated cushions that have no padding on the patio chairs.
7. The unkempt patio that has dead insects, not swept.
8. The dust that can be seen on the baseboards in the hall of the Lodge rooms.
We have stayed at the Salamander Resort in VA. This is a beautiful and well kept property. I understand this is Ms. Johnson’s home base. This property doesn’t even compare. There is a stark difference! The customer service has been excellent, but aside from the roaches, the room quality is not the best by any means.
I have also stayed at Innisbrook and didn’t have any issues with roaches. We will not be back and I warn you as well, when you book ask if you are staying in the Lodge. I did find ANOTHER review (TripAdvisor) from 2015, room 3 of the Lodge where this was an issue as well. This was 4 YEARS ago!
If we take these roaches home, I have asked to be reimbursed our pest control fees. I am absolutely disgusted and disappointed, especially with being informed by staff this is a known issue and reading a review and also seeing someone else post a picture of a roach.
I’m going to be completely honest: we had some problems on day 1. The room wasn’t ready at 4, we had cold groceries and needed our room, the bellman dropped and broke some groceries, our ocean view room was a tiny sliver of an ocean view if you looked from the far corner of the balcony (otherwise only resort view), the tub didn’t drain, the dining table was missing a chair, and we were directly next to the air conditioner units for the building so it was super loud.
So after a rough start, I contacted Latisha Jackson, who responds to the comments on here. I told her our problems and asked if there were any options. I was immediately called by Victor, who is head of rooms and works with her. They both went ABOVE and BEYOND to make things right for the rest of our trip.
We had great experiences at the beach, all of the pools, restaurants, and with staff. The coffee shop staff knew us by our first name and order by day 2. The staff was so friendly and patient and sweet to our kids. The pools areas were clean, well maintained, and plenty of towels and chairs.
I know we had some issues day one, but as a patron you must communicate this to the resort and give them the opportunity to fix it. I easily give 5 stars for our stay because of the level of service that was provided when we had some challenges, and would not hesitate to book again.
Traveled here for a family reunion. Six members coming as far away as California. Let me start out by saying, the resort is only about 15 years old, but looks and feels like it was built in the sixties. The rooms themselves are nice and spacious with wonderful ocean views. If planning to visit, make sure to ask for a room on an upper floor to enhance the view. On our first day of vacation, housekeeping knocked on our room at about 10:00 in the morning, we told the young lady we would be leaving in about ten minutes and for her to come back. She agreed. About three hours later I went back to the room and it still was not cleaned. I told the concierge and she said she would take care of it. Came back up two hours later, still the same condition. Once again the concierge was contacted. After much apologies, she again said she would take care of the situation.
At about 6:00 my wife and I went back to the room to get ready for dinner. You guessed it, still not cleaned. No clean towels for our showers, and running low on TP. after the third call, two men, not housekeepers came up and serviced our room.
Second night four of our family, myself included, wanted to try Loggerheads, one of the on-site restaurants. We had been looking at the posted menu for two days, and we all wanted the portobello mushroom sandwich. We walked in, no one greeted us. We stood around for several minutes and nobody approached to seat us. Finally, I went up to the bartender, the only employee we saw, and asked about the sandwich. He informed us that it wasn’t even on the menu, that it must be an old menu that was never taken down.
Next reunion———someplace else.
