How to Get There
Great location and view. Plenty of room in 2 bedroom suite and view of the marina was great! Hotel staff and service is excellent. As well as the price for a suite. But the hotel rooms could use some updating. Beds not very comfortable and floors, fixtures, etc are outdated. The hotel could be incredible with a good remodel.
From start to finish attentive to every detail, very clean rooms, comfortable bed, spotless bathroom, great ambience, beautiful pool surrounded by foliage and lovely orchids. Extra thanks to Jesus for making us feel welcome! A gem in Coconut Grove. We will definitely come back.
We spent 2 nights at the hotel. We used the Florida resident special and ended up with a lovely 2 bedroom/2 bathroom suite with nice furnishings and terry cloth robes. We were visiting friends so didn’t use amenities or restaurant but did use pool and jacuzzi. Both were well maintained in a waterfall and tree filled space. We will definitely be back.
We recently stayed at The Mutiny on two separate occasions in March. Our first impressions were very good, from the friendly valet staff to the excellent bellman, Gordon, and welcoming reception staff. We were pleasantly surprised with our first room, 204, with the fully-fitted kitchen and washer/drier and all perfectly clean and tidy. We overlooked the pool and although we could hear the piped music from the entrance it did not overly bother us. During our first 3 day stay we made full use of the valet service which was always courteous and efficient and room service was also very good so we were looking forward to our next stay a week later. For our second 4-day stay, we were given room 211 which was a complete contrast from 204. There was nothing wrong per se with the accommodation but it was not the hotel-style of suite 204. We didn't realize until we spoke with reception that each suite is very different as some are privately owned and that next time we could request the room we prefer if it is available. On this visit we made good use of the restaurant and found the choice of food very good and the bartender/waiter was excellent. Having previously stayed at the Ritz-Carlton around the corner, we found this hotel extremely good value with excellent ameneties and very friendly staff. The Mutiny has a very interesting history and we bought the book which is available at reception. Perhaps this should also be made available to members of staff so that they are able to talk to guests with more knowledge.
We arrived at the Mutiny close to midnight and were given the last room (316). This room was terrible with a sleeper couch that was all springs that my son could not find any place to get conformable. The queen mattress in the bedroom sagged and needed to be replaced. The stoves burners were broken, the refrigerator ice dispenser did not work and the place was run down and in need of an update. Even new, the quality of the finishes were substandard and the room had a beam passing through the living room (the *16 rooms are the only ones with this design). There was not enough room to open and access the refrigerator. This was a zero star room and we demanded to be moved the next morning (we MUTINIED).
When we returned that evening we had been moved to room 803. This room was a deluxe upgrade that was larger and better designed than 316. Although we did not need the extra room, it was nice. 803 had a nice view, good quality beds, nice appliances and overall was a nice value (4 star room).
The rooms are individually owned and decorated (some are not rented and used as condos). There is no guarantee that you will get an updated or good quality room. I do not know why the hotel allows inferior rooms to stay in the rental pool since it drags down those rooms that are worthwhile to rent.
The Mutiny is nowhere near a 5 star hotel and the writers who give it 5 stars have clearly not stayed in high-quality properties. The good rooms are nice 4 star values in a nice location on a canal near the Coconut Grove downtown.
