How to Get There
Room - clean, spacious, updated
Staff - spa staff was gracious and nice, check in was polite, restaurant staff awesome (they even let us do a little tasting of what they were planning for new menu)
Ambience - quiet, serene hotel
We enjoyed our stay without issues from traffic noise. My husband used the gym and liked it. Did not use pool as it was cold & rained a bit while we were there but we did think it looked nice.
As others have written before: This isn't really a hotel. And you truly feel this because the staff isn't hospitality trained nor service oriented.
Example? This guy José from reception (if that's even his real name - they don't wear nametags) gave me the wrong room when checking in yesterday. One that is tiny, has a smallish bed and a tiny desk with no nearby power outlet. And that is at the end of what feels like an endless, creepy corridor.
When I confronted José on another issue today, his response was laughter, rather than being helpful.
I give two stars (not one) because the gym is fantastic. But this will be my first and last stay at this wannabe-hotel.
One has certain expectations when staying at an SLS. A comfortable quiet room, with impeccable service. If you stay at this location make sure your room is not located across from the bar on Miami ave. The bass beat kept us up till 4:30 am. We were accommodated with a change in room the next day but no mea culpas or perks for a lost nights sleep. When entering there was no doorman. There was also a paucity of staff for a supposed 5 star hotel. At the pool, a guest brought his own boombox and decided to seranade the area. It took several complaints and still failed to resolve the issue. He should have been asked to leave the area (lack of staff). SLS needs to step up its game to keep up with its South beach location. BTW brunch was delicioso.
I don’t write too many reviews because I don’t like to reflect on the negative when on vacation, but given the location of this hotel in the booming area of Brickell and the newness of this property I felt I had to speak up.
We chose here because our daughter lives here near the hotel...we have stayed at Hotel East on other trips and that property blows this one away on all fronts.
This combination residence and hotel does nothing to go out of its way to make hotel guests feel welcome....At check in you only have an ability to be on floors 3-8 so you can not see the water from your room. What you do get from your room is traffic noise and the smell of smoke from the restaurant below. They originally gave us a room on third floor right above the restaurant with its mesquite grille billowing smoke right up the building. When asked o be moved we got fifth floor and three rooms down, not much of difference...same side.
The theme here for most of the place is “sparse”...only two bath towels in the room each day....having to call for more towels everyday...one robe that was dirty......only one side of bed has nitestand...very inconvenient...the pool is vast but mostly not in sun and the guests get one towel to use at pool. When we were here it was windy and cold and we wanted to use towels to cover up but were not allowed a second towel. Given there were less then 15 people at the pool I can’t figure out why so stingy.
The only bar open during the day was pool bar and when a Captain and coke was ordered...no Captain..., my wife wanted a real glass of wine at 5 pm and was given a plastic cup of wine from the restaurant...they wouldn’t release a real glass for her to bring to the room.
Ice has to be called for and delivered to your room....
Bottom,line...this place was too much work for the price and location...no where near value....
Front desk gal was nice and restaurant on first floor was great with good food and drink selection. Staff in restaurant were cordial and attentive....
Will not stay here again...
Firstly, do not stay at this hotel if you are planning to spend any time on South Beach. It is at least a 20 minute cab ride each way. Also, as a guest at the SLS Brickell, you will have beach privileges at the Delano South Beach. However, the service team at the Delano will treat you as subpar to their actual hotel guests. For example, when I was at the Delano beach I asked about the restroom and I was told to walk down the the public restrooms down the beach (which are disgusting) or stand outside the gate to the Delano and a Delano guest might let me in, if I was lucky.
The rooftop pool is nice at the SLS Brickell. Three different pools and a hot tub. However the service is slow. Food took almost an hour. And there are very few umbrellas. Also service at the pool doesn’t start until 11 am. So no towel service until then.
Both the restaurants were great (Filia and Bazaar).
Overall the room was average. We had a nice balcony...which overlooked a busy road. So don’t expect having a peaceful coffee on your balcony. It is loud and your neighbors may be smoking marijuana. There is a mirror on the ceiling over the bed, so that can probably tell you what kind of hotel it is. The bathroom was large but cold and clinical (like a hospital).
Overall, I’m not rushing to go back and stay at this hotel again.
