Boutique hotel -- almost there

Reading the last five reviews i was struck in the variety of conclusions -- some people loved the hotels and others did not. I agree. There are great aspects to this hotel -- location, comfy beds, some of the rooms are quite large (and others are smaller). The biggest challenge for me was the inconsistent service. Like some earlier reviews, I had to wait at the front desk for someone to show up. I've not been to a hotel recently where people weren't always at the front desk. When they were there the service was professional but not warm. The hotel wants that boutique hip vibe but part of that for me is excellent service. Depending on the price, I would stay again. Everything is good but it's just not quite there yet.

I stayed at the SLS Brickell Hotel for one night from 2-3 Feb 2019:

Reception: The receptionist was professionally friendly, but not more. I had warmer welcomes in the US in simple motels.

Room: Very spacious and stylish!! Very comfortable bed and a huge balcony! Really great. The cleanliness was only ok, had a stain on a towel, glass tables were greasy and not properly clean, some hair in the shower....Admittedly, I did not tell the hotel and did not give them a chance to improve.
I stayed from Saturday to Sunday and throughout the night there was noise from the street. On the other hand, there are a lot of shopping opportunities, restaurants etc nearby.
I woke up very early and wanted to make a coffee (you have a great Lavazza machine in your room), but the machine did not work. Since the phone in my room didn't work either I had to walk down to talk to the receptionist. For nearly 10 min there was nobody at the reception and there were one other guest and a couple waiting as well. When the receptionist came back, he discussed with one client a misunderstanding on his booking lasting for nearly another 10 min. So only after 15 - 20 min I was able to talk to someone. Again here, I perceived the receptionist's friendliness as "professional". The guy from housekeeping fixing the telephone and coffee machine was really friendly, explained me what was broken and was able to fix it.

Resort Fee: I had paid the hotel in advance via my travel agent and it said on the voucher that the customer must not be charged any other fee. Also it said, that resort fee was excluded. Therefore, I wasn't sure if I had to pay this fee or not. At my arrival, the receptionist told me he would bring the point up to the manager. After an unfruitful discussion with the manager, she promised me to contact my travel agent, clarify the misunderstanding and leave me a message in my room. I never heard back from her and neither did my travel agent.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Value for money is from my point of view not great.

Very good visit here. Central location and beautiful pool. Overall very friendly and helpful. Valet did crash my car whike parking it. Mgmt comped me a room.upgrade for my troubles. I would still love to return for another visit.

Good start to Miami

We liked this hotel, modern, good service and boutique feel to the guest room. Nice balcony. Lovely comfy beds. Prompt check in. Very clean. Pool was on roof so fantastic view. The only thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars was that the balcony room we had was very noisy you could hear all the activity from road outside even though we were high up. Lots of places within walking distance to eat and drink. We didn’t use the hotel car in the morning to take us to the port to meet our cruise ship as there was quite a wait for him, so they called us a cab.

Silly payment policy.

Please apologize my English, I am not a native speaker, but I want to share
my experiences with a bigger readership.

2 mayor incidents:

1.
We booked a prepaid rate, using a Diners CC. The card was charged. The room was paid.
We received a confirmation mail, which says „a valid Credit Card is required at Check-in“.

We presented a valid CC ( Visa-but not the same as the one, we used for booking).
Now they say, we have to present not any valid card ( as stipulated in the confirmation Mail), but the original CC (DC), with which we made the payment.

Unfortunatly we did not have this card with us.

So they say, they will refund the already paid room to the first card (Diners), and will charge the now presented new CC (Visa)

Now it becomes ridiculous.

The new card was over the limit, so they say, we cannot check-in .
And This means we will be treated as a „now show“.
And the already paid amount for the room will be forfeit.

Conclusion: If we want to stay, they cannot use the first card and we have to pay for the room a second time,but if we leave, they can and will use the first CC.

Again, because it is so silly:
If we stay, they cannot use the first CC, If we leave, they can charge the first CC.
Got it ?
So without a second card with enough fund, we would end up on the street, although the room
was already paid.
The discussion with the Manager ends up with bla, bla, bla.

2.
My wife became ill, so I had to ask for a wheelchair.
The hotel did not have one.
Oscar from security was extremly helpfull, he immediatly looks for a normal computer chair
with small wheels.
He found one and helped me to bring my wife from the car to the room at the 8th floor.
The next day I had to bring my wife back from the room to the car.
So I asked Oscar for his help again.
The answer: He is so sorry, but the managment interdicted (!) him to help
us again.
So I had to bring my immobile wife to the car without any help.

That was not all, but enough.
