Overview

Urban retreat with a pleasing pool and informal local art gallery

The Lowdown

This 65-room boutique property is an oasis in the bustling Brickell neighborhood. The biggest highlight: its inviting pool deck, encircled by lush landscaping, a cozy fire circle, and dreamy poolside cabanas. It’s worth the small upcharge for a room overlooking the scene. Other hotel perks include free daily breakfast at the lounge bar, a private balcony or lanai in every room, free WiFi, and an expertly curated collection of art pieces by local talents scattered throughout the hotel’s common areas and guest rooms. See one you like? Chances are it’s for sale. Grab a quick bite at the bright Bistro Urbano Restaurant & Bar, or venture to one of the many surrounding eateries for a more memorable meal.

In the Area

At the southern end of the Brickell neighborhood, you’re just across the bridge from the Miami Seaquarium, where you can shake hands with a dolphin and swim with the seals. Another bridge further and you’re on Key Biscayne, known for some of the area’s best beaches; Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park boasts a mile of sandy oceanfront deemed one of the nicest in the nation, plus a historic lighthouse that’s open to tours. Back on the mainland, refuel on authentic Cuban cuisine at Havana 1957, or sample sushi and wood-fired Uruguayan specialties at Quinto La Huella in the new Brickell City Centre development.

Terrible

Terrible food, dirty buffet area. Loud ac, you will not be able to sleep. Cannot opt out of valet parking. No continental breakfast included. You will be overcharged for a bad breakfast with wet eggs and burnt bacon. Everything sticky with syrup.

First, I’d like to say most of the staff has been great. All 3 stars is for the pleasant hard working staff. The hotel itself however I didn’t enjoy. The elevator smelled terribly musty. I saw two cockroaches, one on the door of another room and the second on my bed! The A/C is the swamp cooler kind. So after being soaked from Miami’s oppressive humidity, we cooled off in the sticky a/c of our room. I expect a hotel room to be a refuge from the heat and humidity. While it was cool it did nothing to the humidity. All our clothes felt wet for the entire stay. Have you ever slept in cold wet sheets? Now I can say I have. As nice as the staff has been, their good attitudes aren’t enough to make up for the discomfort (high indoor humidity) and disgust (cockroaches) that came with our stay.

I’d like to acknowledge Genesis at the front desk and the nice young lady that works the breakfast. They deserve raises.

But due to things outside their control, I can not recommend this hotel.
