How to Get There
I travelled to this hotel for a 2 day conference with the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition.
The room was outstanding, clean and great views. The reception staff were very friendly - I wish I had taken down their names.
The food was divine and plentiful.
Would have loved to have stayed longer
Take jumpers though - as the temperature due to the air conditioning was FREEZING
The GREAT: prepare for a ROOM that provides you tranquility, peace, and a chance to relax and rejuvenate. (Feel free to read my other hotel reviews to know that I don't lavish such praise regularly). My STANDARD ROOM (I was not upgraded) included two full beds that were plush, "heavenly" SPG type beds where you feel like sleeping on a cloud; the room also had a full sitting area with sofa, chair, table, and separate TV. The BATHROOM had C.O. Bigelow brand soaps/lotion (although you can't take them home as they are not in the small hotel style containers). Everything in the room was plush, clean, and appeared new - I couldn't even find a scratch or ding on the furniture. The POOL area is large, with plenty of sunbathing space for all to enjoy, and includes a JACUZZI also. The BAR served some delicious and stiff drinks.
Tips for IMPROVEMENT: I love the "heavenly" rainfall showers now standard at SPG Westin brand hotels and this one had adequate water pressure. However, the separate handheld shower piece was spraying water all over the place - as though it was missing the rubber connector. That's really something that a good room inspection should catch and easily fix. At CHECK-OUT it appeared that there were two trainees and only one experienced person, so it took a few extra minutes to actually receive attention. Finally, some extra SIGNAGE directing to which elevators take you to rooms vs. other hotel areas would be helpful - it's a bit disorientating when you first arrive.
SPG Benefits: Free WiFi and 2 bottles of water in room. No free drinks or other such items were offered.
OVERALL: This was my second time staying at this property and they have earned 5-stars both times. Truly a relaxing experience that is well worth the price paid.
Been to this hotel a number of times and it is a great hotel in a wonderful area. The rooms are spacious and recently remodeled. However, amenities extremely sparse - not even a bar of soap provided. I'm all for saving the environment but if you want to wash your hands w anything other than water you will have to use the locked down bottles to squirt if the squirt spout does not fall off (which it did) and if they have remembered to refill the bottles (not sure since the spout fell off). In addition the toilet seat was so loose that it moved about 3" to the side every time you sat on it. Lastly the bedroom TV would only go to the infomercial channel.
These are very small things that can easily be fixed and in fairness to the hotel I'm sure if we had called (we did not) they would have been fixed. However, we had the do not disturb sign on the door and the cleaning crew still entered. In addition, VERY noisy neighbors at 2 and 3 am caused a disturbance in sleep. (but I realize there was no way the hotel could know the partiers would be so obnoxious). However, the bed was very comfortable and the room was a suite/good sized and in general in a quiet area of the hotel (room 320). we were there on a Saturday night during multiple weddings as well as a prom so I'm sure that attributed to the the noise in the wee hours of the night. But hotel is in a great location and very friendly and helpful staff even offering a glass of sangria. Just remember to ask for a bar of soap when you check in if you want one...
It was held at the Aragon Cafe inside the hotel. Service was great they had a live musician playing jazz, a crepe maker, and delicious buffet style brunch. Overall family was very happy and we enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere.
- The interior design of the hotel is beautiful and the location is great (we were recently staying there during a graduation at U of M).
- We left this A.M. and they were passing out white roses to all the mothers for mother's day which was very unique and thoughtful.
- I enjoyed the rain head shower and the handheld extension, provided pretty good pressure.
- When I asked a staff member his recommendation on a good local restaurant, his response was the hotel restaurant.
- This hotel is meant for holding large events. I don't think they pay enough attention to the hotel as they do their event parties.
- There was a prom and/or banquet both nights we were there. The music was incredibly loud and it was very difficult to sleep.
-There was trash left all over the lobby from the parties the previous night. I was walking up their main stair case at 1045 in the morning and there were french fries everywhere! Just gross and bizarre.
- Had to pay for WiFi, which I haven't seen in a very long time when traveling. Definitely seems like a place that tries to squeeze money out of you.
- Had to pay for long distance calling on their phone line (if that is relevant to anyone)
- The pool area was nice and had tons of seating but there wasn't any shade for people (myself included) who aren't used to the Miami heat and sun.
**Something to take into account when reading g my review: the cost of living in Miami, very pricey compared to Virginia!
Overall it was pretty mediocre and we will find another place to stay next time we come to Miami.
