How to Get There
Really enjoyed our stay at the Westin during the Daytona 500. The hotel staff was great. Check-in was a breeze. Beds were nice and comfortable. There is a bar in the lobby and in the restaurant. Shula's 347 was great as well for breakfast and dinner.
Can't compliment the staff at this location enough. The outpouring of greeting, the helpful folks from EVERY position on the staff was beyond words.
All the way from the front desk to service personnel to food service was an exceptional experience.
Stayed 4 nights late December for soccer tournament. Ten minutes from complex, less than 30 to Universal. Rooms clean. Beds very comfortable. Staff friendly. Shula’s good for dinner/drinks hanging out. Close to zillions of food options and grocery. Liked the area very much. Would stay again.
prior to the marriott-starwood merger, i was a huge westin fan and stayed at their properties whenever possible. i was absolutely elated when this property showed up in my search results at a reasonable price and a decent commute time from the wedding i was attending in daytona beach. beware - there's a reason why this place is priced so well.
pros: the beds are soft, there's a restaurant on site and several nearby, close to freeway access, lobby looks nice, AC is ICE COLD - - literally the coldest AC i've ever experienced in life
cons: service is absolutely terrible. i prepaid for my room and was asked to provide a card for incidentals at check-in. i was also asked to sign in a blank digital box with no text, so i had no idea what i was actually signing or agreeing to. i questioned the front lobby staff on this and they basically told me to sign the box or leave. both members of the staff were exceedingly rude, and claimed to be managers. begrudgingly, i signed the box but immediately called marriott's corporate line as soon as i got to my room. i was told a member of management would call me the next day. no one ever did.
my shower water was cold 3 of the 4 nights i stayed in the hotel. i called every day to report the issue, yet it was not fixed and no one offered to move me to another room. i asked again for a manager call-back. no one ever called. i was provided a breakfast coupon for the restaurant downstairs. i was essentially ignored for 30 minutes, so i settled for a bowl of oatmeal and apple juice to go and they actually tried to charge me for it, saying that oatmeal and a cup of apple juice exceeded the value of the voucher westin provided.
i checked out pretty early for a 6 am flight. surprise, surprise - i was charged for water that was labeled as 'free' in my room. i tried to explain to the front desk clerk (who apparently i woke up) and she refused to remove the charge, saying that i would need to get in touch with the national accounting line. i phoned marriott yet again on my way home and an official ticket was opened. i was told a local member of the management team would call me back. that was two months ago. i haven't heard a peep from anyone in the marriott organization.
i honestly only stayed in the room for sleeping - i can only imagine how many more things could have happened had i actually spent a decent amount of time at the property.
avoid, avoid, avoid.
I was staying here purely as I was attending a meeting in the hotel so for convenience stayed there... BIG MISTAKE!
I booked directly with the hotel via App and chose a Club Floor (I WANTED to utilise the club as I needed some additional space to do work and enjoy some snacks / refreshments, which is paid for)
Hoping also as a SPG member and booking directly I’m usually be given a double upgrade.
When I checked in I was told “yes we have upgrade you” but when I went to my room which was next to the ice machine and looked directly into another building I’m sure I’d been downgraded!
I went back to reception only to be given another room which absolutely STANK! The smell was so vile the house keeping used approx half a bottle of air freshener to try cover it!
Then I found out there was no Club access!! They said “oh thought you were told, it’s closed at weekends” NO I was not told!!! By whom was I suppose to have been told by???
I called the Marriott rewards people directly (Marriot / SPG / Westin now amalgamated into one) and they said “nothing we can do but give you 500 points as apology for the oversight!) I asked isn’t there a bigger room so I can work, or upgrade me to a suite and was told flatly “all rooms same size in the hotel, nothing we can do to help you”
If that didn’t make matters worse, I’ve had no hot water for 2 days!!
The hotel “claims” to be “environmentally friendly” aka its never been upgraded since 1970s so use yr key to turn on / off electricity and you have to leave a key in the wall unit if you hope to charge yr phone / laptop while out of room!!
I was told to run the water for approx 10minutes till the water heats up! - this is SO BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!! and after 20minutes it still didn’t heat up - and now have had 2 cold showers and the sink water takes hours for the water to flowout ...
Day 2 I asked for a plumber to fix these things while I was at my meeting and left hotel 08:30am, came back 4:30pm and it’s still not fixed!
Here I am at 8:10pm hoping to have a hot shower and instead I’ve a workman now here to try resolve this issue - although he’s suggesting I should change rooms - I would if it weren’t for the fact I have to check out by 07am tomorrow !!! 😳🤬🤬🤬
and dont even get me started on how old the bed linen is! Think the photos speak for themselves ! Bobblyand worn out
This hotel does not deserve 4 🌟 realistically it’s a 2 star !!!
Oh btw the locals love the HAPPY HOUR at the bar here, maybe that’s why they get good reviews...
