A well run peaceful oasis
Reviewed 1 day ago

We just returned home from a 6 day trip to this property with my wife and elderly mother-in-law. It exceeded my expectations.
The Staff: From check-in to check-out the staff was universally friendly, attentive, and welcoming. We had 2 rooms and my elderly mother-in-law had an unfortunate mishap related to a medical condition that occurred in her room on one of the days. I stopped a housekeeper on the floor and asked for assistance. She was not only very accommodating and assisted us, she was nothing short of lovely with my mother-in-law and treated her with dignity with what I am sure was an embarrassing situation for her. I found the staff comparable to a Ritz Carlton.

The Resort: The resort is very quiet and peaceful compared to an otherwise congested area of southwest Florida. It isn't really a beach resort, but it is right on the water. You can't get closer to the water than this property. The sunsets were great sitting on the pool deck with a beer in hand. I have seen other reviews suggesting the property could use an update. I guess I could see that, but I am not sure a property this close to the water will ever be perfect because of the saltwater etc. Regardless, I am sure it could stand an update in a few areas but it never impacted our experience. I would highly suggest someone going to the property to understand the difference between the two towers as this property is almost like two properties in one. The Sanibel Tower is the main tower where the primary pools and restaurants are and is the hub of activity. The Captiva Tower is maybe 1/10 of a mile away and more quiet and secluded with a shuttle to the Sanibel Tower. The Sanibel Tower experience was what we were looking for, but someone else might want a quieter experience. Do your research and determine what you are looking for and ensure you book the right room.

The food and drink was fine for us but we aren't really foodies so not sure we are the best to comment on the food. As a Marriott Platinum Premier Elite I like having a concierge room, which this property doesn't have, but they have an outstanding breakfast buffet that Platinum members received for a $6 upcharge above the complementary Platinum breakfast. It was fabulous.

The Area: This property is right at the bridge to Sanibel. This property really feels like an oasis amid a pretty congested area. Quiet, peaceful, and serene. Just a block from the bridge to Sanibel which in the winter months is very congested, Ft Myers Beach in the other direction is nothing short of a disaster with its 60 minutes to go 5 miles traffic jams that are pretty much there every hour of the day in the winter. This property though somehow manages to be peaceful. I am not sure how it is but they somehow manage to have the feel of being in a secluded area right next to the hustle and bustle.

Overall if I was returning to the area I would for sure return to the property.

A Magnificent Visit!

Sanibel Harbour is a wonderful resort & spa. The staff is remarkably friendly and attentive. Suggest dining at the hotel restaurant, Tarpon House, and enjoying the breathtaking sunsets. The nearby spa is a great place to relax. Thanks to everyone at the Sanibel Harbour for a wonderful and memorable visit.

I had big hopes for this place (the price suggested they would be pretty good). However, it was basically a standard Marriott hotel with a nice view. The twp restaurants were pretty drab - not horrible, but nothing special either. There were few other restaurants nearby, so, after trying both restaurants, we decided to have picnics instead.

The yacht which was supposed to offer a dinner tour ot the harbor was out of action - a missing part, they said. Later, they added it was "too rainy."

There are several towers, but the exercise room is all on its own, by a restaurant. The main tower has another restaurant, but the Captiva tower has none. I don't know about the condo/timeshare towers.

The one special thing is the boardwalk to the exercise room, through a magrove swamp with a lake or river, atrracting many birds, mostly ibis or egret. That makes up for the misgivings I had about the rest of the place. As a hotel, it was ok, but not worth double what other Marriotts charge.

Lovely Rooms, great breakfast

Had great service at this hotel. Staff was so helpful and attentive to our every need. We had breakfast here every morning. They have everything you could want from bacon to omelets and fresh fruit, bagels and oatmeal. The room overlloked the harbour and pool areas. We used the hotel's bike for exploring the island and tennis club area. The have clay tennis courts. Location is just by the bridge going to Sanibel. Don't miss Sanibel island or Captiva.
