How to Get There
I had a room overlooking the ocean with a balcony. The service was great and the room was beautiful with darkening curtains. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and I could barely bearly people walking down the hall or next door. The hotel has a gym, full bar, restaurants on site and is connected to the convention center.
Although I was there on business I managed to sneak in some pool time which doesn't close until midnight.
I had the best time at the pool and the service was absolutely amazing. Rhodes by far was the greatest and was so accommodating to our every need! He is truly amazing and made me and my friends feel right at home
Octavia greeted me immediately at the front desk with a smile. She must have seen the harried look on my face after a long, challenging drive, as she delayed her break time, and immediately ensured I was checked in right away. My king room had been upgraded, which was a pleasant surprise. Beautiful oceanfront view, and a nicely appointed, very clean, very large room. The property itself is gorgeous, and in a great location. In town for a conference, I hosted a private dinner for clients at one of the hotel restaurants. I could not have asked for better service or better food. Outstanding event, thanks to the staff. This time, I was here on business, but will be back next time with my family for a welcoming getaway.
I got an email from Hilton when I departed asking me to make a Tripadvisor review so hope they find the comments helpful!
Stayed at this hotel with my family and was extremely disappointed. I travel extensively on business and usually at Hiltons (47 nights - Diamond status - already this year). I stay at most of the Hilton "brands" - and this was by far the worst.
It started at the "valet" park on arrival. $44 per night Valet is obviously expensive, but what is most frustrating is that the accompanying service is very poor. Over 4 days we needed the car numerous times. They use a text based request system. You text that you need your car, and then get 3 messages, "Vehicle Request received", "Vehicle Retrieved" and "Vehicle Delivered". On only one occasion was it actually outside even when their "text" service said it had been "delivered". When I questioned the valet they said "delivered" doesnt mean its actually available, it just means someone has gone to the parking lot to get it! Given the consistency of non-delivery I can only assume they do this to meet some performance metric or SLA. They log it "delivered" before its delivered so their performance stats look good.
There was a long line to checkin (there are no special lines/privileges for HHonors status) - and that was a theme throughout our stay. A line to get breakfast, a line to get lunch - you get the picture. At the weekend the lines were extensive.
The room itself was fine, and on the 2nd day when we asked we were upgraded to a room with an ocean view (of course after a 25 minute wait in another line). The room was clean but the corridors are not.
The elevators were slow - although we didnt personally experience the 15+ minute elevator waits that other guests were complaining about.
The onsite "water park" - which was the primary reason we selected the hotel - was very disappointing. It is very small, has very limited hours, and was closed several times during the stay because "the slide was broken".
The beach was also disappointing. The sand itself is nice and the kids enjoyed playing there, but you cant access the water without going through several feet of seaweed/algae. This isn't the hotels fault (I assume) but is worth noting if you like to swim in the sea.
Generally I find the staff at Hiltons that I stay at are helpful, even when the hotels themselves might be old or run down. This was the opposite. One example, one day my family had lunch in the hotel restaurant, it was about 1pm and not busy for once. I arrived about 40 minutes later when I finished some work. Apparently the food had been slow and was just being served when I arrived. The server told me I should just share my kids food because it would take too long to get anything else. And I was never even offered a drink during the rest of the meal.
Not sure if they have food/drink service at the pools - during the 4 days I was never offered a drink or food - even though they strictly prohibit taking "outside" drinks or food. There is a pool bar though I didnt use it.
I ordered a package to be delivered during our stay. It was apparently delivered on Thursday, but the hotel never notified me until I enquired after I left on Saturday. When I pointed out that I was in another country so couldnt "stop by to pick it up" - they just told me to call Fed Ex to sort it out. Needless to say the package is still there.
The only positive experience with staff there was when we departed. One of the valet's remembered me from the prior day when we had complained about our car not being "delivered" and he was very polite and helped us load-up before we departed.
Other than that there was no follow-up when I expressed my disappointment at the service during the stay to the reception, and to the valet manager.
I was looking forward to an enjoyable time at the Diplomat, but unfortunately that did not happen. Prior to arrival, I had requested early check-in although I knew there was a possibilty that I wouldn’t get it. I killed some times and showed up at 6:10pm. To my surprise when I got to the room that I had reserved, the bell boy said « oh no ». I walked in, and what a sight! Dirty towels everywhere, bed not made, bathroom a mess etc... the bell boy took me back down to the lobby where I waited for almost an hour to have a room made available to me. That night I went on and complained and was given a resort credit. The next day fridge stopped working, and everything that I had in there(milk, cucumbers), etc got spoiled. The same day toilet seat broke. The following day, it was 7:38pm and my bedroom was not cleaned, went down and spoke to a manager and was given another credit. At that time, I had requested for my room to be cleaned at a certain time. The following day it was 4pm and housekeeping never showed up, I was then given another credit. At the end of the day no amount of credit could compensate for the aggrevation that I went through. My vacation got ruined, because it felt like a roller coaster ride! Although its a huge and beautiful resort, but major disappointment.
