Avoid (poor service, understaffed, not friendly for kids, poor cleaning )

Currently, staying at the Ritz Carlton in Bal Harbor for our first time. We have stayed at many ritz properties (Sarasota, grand cayman, south beach, Amelia island, etc) I hate long reviews and have never written one until now so will just give the highlights as I am sure you can find a more suitable hotel than the ritz for your vacation. When we arrived no one was outside to help us with our luggage and with two kids had to unload the car and bring in our bags ourselves. At check-in no one acknowledged the kids (although the website says they have a cute kids check in process) when we ate lunch at the pool the food showed up 1.5 hours after we ordered. This was explained as Low staff issues and yet it’s a hotel on a holiday weekend so you would think they would staff up. We ran into the same issue at dinner that evening as well. After all of this we finally got to our room and the bathroom was still dirty from last residents along with stains on the bed. At turn down they replaced the dirty duvet cover but we then found stains on the actual sheets (so gross!) the room also was not cleaned at turn down. Today is our second day and I asked if they had a kids room for the kids to play (website talks about a kids program and special room with toys and games) it’s a room the size of my closet more like a alcove with not much for the kids at all! If traveling with kids I would avoid this place as the lack of a real kid program (website is deceiving) makes it not great for the little ones. I would also mentioned to not count on the concierge for reservations as I emailed them days before our trip and they only attempted to make the reservations for us once I reminded them I had not heard back and was still waiting on confirmation as well as confirming our babysitter. I have had bad hotel experiences but the true lack of service (which is what you want most from a ritz or any other luxury hotel so you can relax and feel taken care of for a few days) is what makes me say avoid as the vacation really feels more of a stress when you have to worry about all the things that should be a seamless experience.

A nice solid experience. A highlight was the staff - generally very helpful and positive. Room was nice, especially the bathroom with great views and nice free standing tub. Food was also nice, we had different mix of appetizers 2 days in a row - and quality was very high. One night with and issue for late serving. Staff handled issue really well. We stayed 2 nights - and went to St. Regis Bal Habour after this. Would probably have been 5* - but St. Regis was a level above in all aspects.

I have visited RC Bal Harbor with friend of mine for a coffee lunch meeting. First suprise is that they charge for parking 15usd even though we will be having a lunch in the hotel.
After some times, we got the figure of 5 usd for the parking ( which even now I believe it is ridicilous to pay for the parking if I will be using the hotel services )

Anyway, we went out ( paid a tea and coffee 18usd ) and went to pay for the parking, where Valet Parking said we need to pay at the front desk. Approaching the front desk I asked Edwin why does Ritz charges for basic service like parking and I compared some other properties and hotels in the world of a similar class that are not charging. Plus 5 usd to charge and tea/coffee is 18 usd is little bit of a below their brand, he said : well you should be lucky that I am not charging you 15 usd, instead only 5 usd. I said okay, than you can charge me for toilet also as I used your facilities. He answered in very rude tone instead of dealing with our requests. We than called Front desk supervisor who appologized for this behaviour. Certainly not the Ritz i know and ''legendary service'' Very dissapointed.

Our room was a beautiful upgraded King Suite. There is only 1 restaurant (plus the pool bar) on property; the bar is very small; so basically you need to leave the property to go for drinks and meals unless you enjoy eating every meal in the same restaurant. The wait staff was EXCEPTIONAL. The front desk staff was decent, not great; and the guy had a bit of an attitude when I requested a late checkout. The elevators were broken twice in our 3 day stay with no signage for how to work around it; there were TONS of kids everywhere, so if you're looking for an adult get-away, I would not recommend. They have a courtesy car that goes 6 miles in each direction that was a great amenity with a very nice driver. With so many other fantastic luxury options around Bal Harbour, we won't choose this one again.

Where do I even begin?!

We booked a stay through points, which I was wary of because we like to stay at five star properties and typically stay at the acqulina when visiting Miami. I was traveling with two small children(3 and 4m old) and a dog, we were headed to Miami for my MIL massive bday party that she hosts annually. Naturally, before our travels I wanted to make sure everything was in order so that I dont run into any stressful situations while im with the two children. The night prior to our travels 7pm, I called the hotel to confirm that everything was prepared for our arrival. I was told im all set and they look forward to seeing me. I went to bed early that night as I had an early flight. In middle of the night around 2am my daughter wakes up for a feeding, as I am feedng her I scroll through my emails to find an email from the ritz carlton telling me my reservation has not been confirmed because of inadequate points, this was emailed to me at 9pm prior to my reservation. I started to panic and called marriot at two am, naturally no one was answering but I was relentless because like I mentioned I really did not want to run into stressful situations while im away with my children. By 3:30am I got through to someone who confirmed that there was nothing weong aith my reservation and everything looked greAt. Having to wake up at 4:30 for our flight I decided to stay up the night. Had the management called me with the issue earlier in the day OR waited till Inarrived we couldve easily settled it. They also couldve called marriott rewards themselves as this was easily remedied in 3min.

The turmoil doesnt end there. We check into our room and the room doesnt get cleaned unless we call and ask. One day we were gone for 8 hours and no one cleaned it! Our kids couldnt shower upon our arrival back.

The icing on the cake of our trip, when we checked in I mentioned that the toilet sounded like it was broken, the technicion came to the room ans told me it was fine. A few days later as my husband was bathing my three year old son. I noticed the water looked murky, next thing we know a pipe bursts in the bathroom and water gushes out everywhere! Water with poop in it literallt everywhere (see pics attached) our items get damaged and the water started seeping out everywhere. When I call the fromt desk they tried to make it seem like it was jusr a clogged toilet 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️finally they came up with like 6 people ( when i tell you this was intense i mean it) at this point it was 6pm my MIL bday party was that night, I couldnt shower and had to switch rooms immediatelt before ouur items get trashed. The manager was helping me pack my things and while she was gracious it was probably the most stressful situation ever. Its almost as if I jinxed myself in regards to thhe trip bc i was so scared and everything went to poo.(literally)

Although the staff tried to make it right, by allowing us to postpone our stay due to a flight cancellation, not before changing our room three times ans making my husband miss his spa appointment which he is still being charged for.

This really has been one major issue after another ans were in middle of our stay now. I pray pray pray to god that this is all we endure..... I whole heartedly urge you to not stay on this property. Even if you have marriott rewards! Its really NOT worth it, not to mention the property is just meh to begin with. Really DONT stay here i mean please dont stay here for your own sake.
