How to Get There
Me and my wife usually stay at the St. Regis but they had no availability. To my surprise the Ritz Carlton was better. Then the St. Regis. The Ritz Carlton was also substantially cheaper. I am definitely going to be coming back to this resort.
While check in went well the agent at the desk could have at least smiled. That is the only negative comment I have about our two day stay. Suites are magnificent, kitchen, 1.5 bathrooms, living room, dining room and very relaxing free standing tub in the master bath. The balconies have ocean views. Room service was good but nothing special. Drinks at the bar were excellent. Spa services very good but spa facilities seem limited. The hotel also provides car service within the area. Location is great if you're looking for a quiet area on the beach, which is exactly what we wanted.
My husband and I have stayed at the Ritz Carlton Bal Harbour for years. This has long been one of our favorite places to stay, but this particular visit has been abysmal. In the past, we’ve had outstanding rooms, but for some reason unbeknownst to us, we were relegated to a very average room that affords a view of a rooftop ledge, a moldy lemon, a part of a chewed up chicken wing and sundry cigarette butts. Awesome. (And the balcony is so filthy I can’t go outside without shoes on) We made a special request over a month ago (a small, easy to accommodate request that was a huge sentimental deal to us) which was ignored, and the concierge was neither willing not able to help. (For context, in the past, said request was happily accommodated.) Bear in mind: we are paying Ritz Carlton rates ...and are confounded by this experience and the terrible service. I’d like to think this was an anomaly, but then guest services hasn’t answered the phone...and I’ve called numerous times.
Obviously, in the grand scheme of things, our bad experience here is just that: a bad experience at a Ritz Carlton. However, we paid for luxury and were rewarded with abject mediocrity. We couldn’t even get guest services to bring ice to our room despite repeated requests. We will certainly be hard pressed to come up with reasons to stay here again. This wouldn’t be quite so terrible had this not once been such a great place to stay. This, frankly, has been shockingly bad.
