Historic style with polish on Key West's only stretch of natural beach
The 150-room Reach is situated on a choice slice of paradise—Key West’s only natural sand beach. Water sports abound, from scuba diving to snorkeling to jet ski rental, and a heated pool overlooks the shore. When guests get hungry, there’s a Strip House steakhouse. It’s enough to make one never leave the compound, but that would be a mistake; the hotel’s sister property, Casa Marina, opens its Spa to Reach guests. And beyond that, Duval Street, the thumping main artery of Key West, is only a mile away.
In the Area
Like all mammals, guests at the Reach have to decide if they’re more comfortable on land or on sea when it comes to leaving their home away from home. Landlubbers golf at the Key West Golf Club, visit the Custom House, or historic Fort East Martello. Seafarers opt for a jet ski tour of the island, take a sunset cruise, or scuba dive the area shipwrecks. And those stuck in between head straight to the Key West Aquarium or Key West Shipwreck Museum.
How to Get There
My title suggests perhaps a bit of "shock value" - the property is fine but it belongs in Hilton's Curio Collection. Disappointing experience at this so-called Waldorf. The Reach could be so much more and perhaps will be since being de-flagged by Hilton. When I was there, it's simply amazing how this could have ever been categorized as a Waldorf-Astoria property. Outside entrances to rooms, the concrete walkways were filthy and in need of maintenance. Love Hilton, but the selection of this property as a part of an "elite collection" was purely misplaced.
I went to the hotel as it Provides the "Only Private Beach in Key West" however the condition of the hotel is Terrible , Cant go to the beach because of wall of algae preventing access , The Overall condition of the hotel Is Poor, from the bar, Room, Lobby, Elevators, Hallways , But yet the charge regular rate as the hotel is in Great Condition. .Really Sad that Hilton can do this to its Diamond Member.. Stay away from this property
While the check in process went smoothly, the rest was a poor experience. Our room was dusty, the bathroom was filthy (hair in and outside of shower, mold and mildew that looked like it just needed a good clean, dust in all of the corners of the room. We called the front desk 3 times to please come clean the bathroom, to no avail. Finally, at 9 pm, I took photos of the bathroom and took them to the front desk and asked the clerk to look at them. I asked her "Would you shower in this?", she replied that no, she would not and contacted the maintenance supervisor. He came and called for someone to go clean our room right away but he was rude and avoided making eye contact with me. Because it was our 20th anniversary, we called the Hilton Diamond desk and asked to check out the next morning. We were refunded points for our 2nd night but the hotel general management never resolved our issue with not wanting to lose all 75,000 points for the first night. A Hampton Inn for about 35,000 points would have been a better experience. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Outside of the room, the water is murky and has a foul odor, the elevator had mold on the ceiling tiles that could have been easily cleaned, the cleaning staff was constantly yelling in the hallway and talking loudly. It just needs a complete renovation, which I think they are working on but noone should have to suffer through staying here in the meantime. We checked into the Ocean Key Marina the next day and I would highly recommend that resort. They were lovely, upgraded us for our anniversary and provided us a $25 resort credit.
