How to Get There
We are two senior, diabled, citizens. We took Gates up on their offer. Went to the bar have a couple of drinks, We then went to the pool area to cool off, it was over 90 degrees. We both have small service animals. Complete documentation was available. We wer at the pool less than 5 minute thena gates emploee approached us and said we ha to leave. He was a bully, rude, keep saying we were not even guest?? I have never been treated so badly in Key West, I have been here 22 years. I filed a complaint with the ADA, contacted the General manger. ADA replied, general manager never replied, so we contacted legal counsel.
Just be aware, there are so many good places to stay in Key West, the Gates is not one of them!
I will NEVER again stay at The Gates. To be told, upon check-in, that my "room was ready but there is a charge for early check-in" is ludicrous. I travel extenbsively, both nationally and internationally, and I have NEVER ONCE heard of this policy. The young lady at the front desk was rude and arrogant and ultimately deflected to her Manager, who "wasn't in". No Manager on-site? Really? To top it off, when I presented our social services Agency's Tax-Exempt status certificate, I was told the resort fee WOULD be charged -- after other social services Agencies are NOT charged this fee (we all DO talk, you know.) You need to seriously review your Reservations and Check-In training and grotesque guest policy implementation, but I can say this: I will recommend to my colleagues both in the Keys and outside to NEVER stay at your hotel. Inept management and policies will doom you.
Traveling to Key West was a bucket list trip for us. The folks at the Gates we're awesome! The facility was great and the shuttle service to and from old town was on point as well. The return trip is in the idea stage now but when we get back down there, we will be staying at the Gates again!
We got a good deal on a room in this place from Priceline. The pool is beautiful and the pool bar is nice with a fun atmosphere. The bartenders and hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room itself was nice, quiet, and comfortable. There was an additional resort fee of around $35-40 per day but the hotel did include Free parking & An added bonus was the free shuttle service to Mallory square that ran every half hour until 11pm. With this hotel you have access to a few of the other properties right next door all of which are nice with great pools! A MUST try is the hotels food cart that sits out front. It’s called The Blind Pig (you can order this food from the bar beside the pool or from the cart itself until 10pm) surprisingly one of our favorite Meals of our entire vacation!
We visited for three days and were overall very pleased with our stay! There was a free shuttle to the main strip of restaurants, bars and shops that was very convenient and the hotel and room was very clean and spacious. Would stay here again!
