How to Get There
$450 a night, plus parking and "resort fees" is a travesty. Within the first 48 hours of arriving, we switched rooms 4 times. 4 times. The reason being a terrible smell of mildew and dirty gym socks that appeared to permeate, at the bare minimum, every room of an entire wing of the resort. I have family staying here as well, who's rooms are located in a separate, private building (markedly higher price, but maybe you have to shell out an extra $200 a night so you don't have to sleep in what smells like a YMCA locker room). When asked for an explanation, staff blamed the humidity of the air. If that was the case, then every room in every hotel/resort/motel/bed & breakfast in a humid area would be experiencing the same problem. That is not the way it is, as I have had plenty of great experiences at not only other hotels in south Florida, but other hotels in drastically more humid areas than the Keys. When confronted with the actuality of this, staff decided to revert to an even worse explanation. "It smells like that because of the way the building is." Flawless logic.
Don't think the gym sock smell was enough a reason to never bring your family or friends here? The "private beach" they have is so filthy that the smell of rotten fish and degrading seaweed reaches almost to the pool situated some 50 yards away. Top blanket on all beds has been essentially a dish cloth(? no other way to describe it, just feels like something I would use to dry my pots and pans) and the thread count can't be any higher than 200. All that said, the staff have been easy to work with and even pleasant to talk to, if perhaps they don't have an explanation for the terrible conditions they're forced to deal with. I almost feel bad for them, having to shuffle people around constantly because customers would (unsurprisingly) rather sleep in a room that smells like a hotel room and not an unfinished basement gym.
We spent 4 nights at the Southernmost and had a great stay! Beautiful Ocean view room. Balcony was shared with others which was a little unusual. We could hear the beach music from the balcony while enjoying drinks & snacks.
There were 3 pools, 2 higher energy & one adult only tranquility pool. All beautiful. In addition, we spent 2 days at the beach next door-with access to lounge chairs & umbrellas.
We averaged 6 miles of walking a day, taking advantage of the great restaurants & night life. The concierge shared great local restaurant spots-7 Fish was off the beaten track with wonderful fish dishes. Our waitress at 7 Fish gave great live music venue recommendations. The night life & live music was a blast!
We look forward to our next stay at the Southernmost!
Great place and great location to Duval Street on the quieter end. Felt like an all-inclusive resort. Staff was really friendly. There is a beach but not much of one. If your looking for a beach resort Key West is not the place. Quaint fun place!
Check in was easy and convenient. Staff was unbelievably courteous, friendly, and professional. We have visited Key West several times but by far this is where we will stay again. Room was clean, very comfortable, and the view is something you can’t put into words. If I could rate this experience higher, I certainly would!
Coming from snow bound Vermont we totally enjoyed Key West and especially the Southernmost Beach Resort! Our waiter at the Beach Café, Aza was warm and welcoming from the moment we got there. He went over and above to make us feel at home. His sense of humor was special and he gave us great Key West recommendations.
