How to Get There
We were looking for a luxury property that has a great location, off-street parking, a pool, no carpeting, with 2 bedrooms and a view and Santa Maria Suites is it! I am a VERY picky person and I looked at over 50 properties online and considered renting a townhouse to get what I wanted, but this is even better because of the truly awesome staff who are always there for you to ensure you have a great stay. I am often wary about rave reviews because I assume they are fake. But you can believe this one because this property really delivers and even exceeded my expectations (which rarely happens, because, as I said, Im really picky!) I wrote this review for people who are like me and want to know lots of details before deciding.
The property is very attractive, well maintained and centered around 2 pools which are split by a walking bridge. Around the pools are padded lounges surrounded by trees and landscaping. The pools were very clean and heated (Im guessing 86?). There is a small bar that serves complimentary ice slushies all day, but you can add liquor for a fee. They also have beer and wine for a fee except during happy hour from 4-5:30 when wine and snacks are free. There are extra large towels next to the bar. The pool was never packed or noisy and always had chairs available. All rooms face the pools but feel private because of the trees/vegetation but still have nice views. Some units are first floor, some second floor and others have upstairs/downstairs configuration. We choose a one level, 2nd floor unit (#17). The rooms are decorated in coastal modern with tile floors throughout with flat screen tvs in bedrooms/Living. No DVD players but there are jacks for games if you bring them. There is a wide patio off the kitchen/living area and a laundry closet with stacked W/D with detergent and room to stow your luggage. The 2 suites, one with ensuite double sink vanity & double rainfall showerheads, the other with smaller bath (only one step outside the bedroom) have big closets, and the master has a safe. There are extra pillows/sheets/blanket, golf umbrellas and 2 microterry robes in each closet. No slippers. The doors are heavy wood and block noise. The windows have light filtering curtains as well as light blocking curtains in every room. The bedrooms are to the rear of the unit layout and do have some street noise, but still, very quiet for KW and not on a main street so you will only hear the occasional car or rooster. The beds were a little firm for me but comfortable, the pillows felt like down alternative with a variety of firm/soft, and the sheets were smooth. There are floor-length mirrors in both bedrooms, and the baths are granite and tile with extra large soft towels, real working fans so no after-shower fog, stocked with the usual lux amenities like shampoo/cond/bath gel/lotion/hair dryer/cotton swabs/wipes/shower cap, etc. The master bath has a glass door between bed/bath so if you need a nightlight for the bathroom, you will see the light in the bedroom. There is an alarm clock with backlit face which bugs me when I sleep so I unplugged it and used my phone as a nightlight/clock. The kitchen has a microwave, 2 drawer fridges/2 freezer drawers, one with ice, DW, coffeemaker and electric kettle, electric cooktop, toaster, blender, plates/mugs/glasses/wine & champagne glasses/flatware, basic cooking tools, wine opener, knives/scissors, DW soap/dish towels/scrubbie, autoDW detergent & is stocked daily with water, coffee, decaf, tea, sweetener, creamer.
We were celebrating our 10th anniversary and they had a bottle of cab waiting for us in the room when we arrived (thank you!!!). Every night they brought us chocolates, mini dove bars and muffins. There is wifi, basic cable TV, parking in back of the property with bike rentals and a sushi restaurant on site. A small sandy beach is off-site (just around the corner) and they give you free passes for chairs and umbrellas.
I mentioned that the staff really makes this property special: we enjoyed amazing service from the office staff Matilda, Ray, and Jason (who were always available to address any need, from reservations, to recommendations to any issues or concerns) to Alex our trusty bartender to the cleaning crew. Everyone really cares about their guests having the most wonderful experience possible and take pride in making this one of the best properties in Key West. Already looking forward to returning in the spring!
I returned to Santa Maria Suites for the third time. This is a wonderful place to stay. Very family friendly. The customer service is beyond outstanding. Matilda continues to be an extreme credit to her employer. She is an excellent hostess. Always a pleasure to do business with this young lady.
I recommend Santa Maria Suites to anyone who is looking for a safe, upscale, friendly place to stay.
In closing, a shout-out to Jason who works the pool area. He's a very gregarious young man. Nice to have him there.
Had a great stay at Santa Maria. The front desk staff are all exceptional. The hotel grounds are well maintained as are the suites. The location is great as the hotel is located 2 blocks from the beach and a block from Duval. Would highly recommend and hope to stay again in the future.
We spent a week at Santa Maria Suites in early December. What a great place ! Take a look at the pics on the web site, that's what it really looks like. A small boutique type hotel located near the quiet end of Duval St., with plenty to do and see within walking distance.
The 2 bedroom suite was immaculate, and the beds very comfortable. The kitchen area came complete with everything you need for the times you don't want to eat out. The pool area was the perfect size, small and intimate, surrounded by lush tropical foliage. The complimentary smoothies were a nice touch, as was the nightly turndown service which brought dove bars and muffins for the morning.
The most impressive thing of all though, was the true customer service provided by Matilda, Natasha, Jason, Alex and all the staff. A very special shout out to Matilda, who helped from the very first phone call, answered all my questions, made great recommendations and took wonderful care of us. Without a doubt, one of the nicest people we have ever met in our travels.
Overall, two great big thumbs up !!
This hotel exceeded our expectations. It’s in the best location, clean and has a friendly staff. Matilda at the front desk was super nice and helpful. She organized our boat adventure and went above and beyond for us. Jason at the pool bar was fun and attentive. I would highly recommend staying at this property!
