How to Get There
We had a wonderful trip. Parrot Key was exactly what I wanted - really relaxing, excellent service, beautiful spacious room, and great location. We took advantage of the shuttle to Smathers beach and also did a jet ski tour around the island which conveniently left from the hotel. Will definitely return!
We just returned after spending a week at Parrot Key. The resort is beautiful. We stayed in one of the family suites, which was perfect for us. The kids enjoyed having their own floor for their bedroom and bathroom. The cleaning, valet and pool staff were all very friendly. The only complaint we had was at checkout. We were under the impression that valet parking was included in the resort amenity fee because on their website valet parking is listed under the list of amenities included in the hotel amenity fee. I showed the front desk staff the webpage and she understood how it could be confusing that it is listed under the included amenities. She tried to call her manager, Kaitlin Smith, but the manager declined to come and meet me. The valet parking service was excellent and worth the fee of $15/nt that we ended up paying. If the website had been more clear in differentiating included vs. not excluded amenities in the hotel amenity fee, I would have had no concerns. However, I left the resort disappointed partly because the website was confusing regarding valet parking, but mostly because the manager could not be bothered to come meet me in person, take a look at the webpage on the Parrot Key website and at least hear how it could be misleading to a customer.
This is a nice resort, but don’t expect refined luxury. We stayed in one of the 3 bedroom suites - it was very spacious and clean. The rooms have been recently renovated - they are well appointed. For a large family or friends gathering, the rooms are a plus
Some areas which didn’t deliver as well
-As of March, the resort only has one restaurant open and its by the pool. It’s a quick service type place - not a real restaurant. Food is mediocre particularly given the price point
-Be aware that the resort is far away from the action on Duval Street. Given parking challenges in town, anticipate a $15+ uber each way.
-Service is mediocre. The rooms were not cleaned all that well each day and were serviced awfully late (4pm-5pm). Also just some strange behavior at the front desk. To tip the valet we asked for change one morning. The front desk indicated we would need to go to a nearby Walmart to change a $20! Fortunately a concierge heard our conversation and wound up helping out. But, cmon - that is ridiculous
-There are 4 pools which are fine. One is adults only. However each of the pools is quite small. Would be a lot more fun for kids to have one larger pool
We recently stayed at this resort and enjoyed the updated decor. I ate at the restaurant with my family and the avocado toast was delicious and indulgent. Breakfast was a treat. I could see where the pizza was lacking. The server was attentive and pleasant. I appreciated having a front and back balcony in our two bedroom suite. I enjoy relaxing on the patio and it was nice having so much outdoor space. We had some room issues with leaks that we needed to report and contend with and the manager compensated us for our hassle with kindness and care. As I read from other reviewers that felt like they were charged inappropriately, so we scrutinized our bill and did in fact find a restaurant charge that was done in error. It was taken off of our bill. Beautiful grounds and room. The shuttle to downtown was helpful but would have been nice if it ran later into the night. All in all, I would stay here again.
My husband and I recently stayed at Parrot Key with our family. For our needs, this was the perfect accommodation. We stayed in a three-bedroom/three bath villa that gave all of us ample space and privacy. Our daughter and her boyfriend took the first floor room, which gave them access to a patio complete with beach chairs, a hammock and enough sand to make you want to find the beach, which we did. But more on that in a moment. My husband and I took the second floor room, which also included a lovely living room complete with a mini refrigerator and microwave. Our other daughter enjoyed the third floor room, which had a spacious walk-in closet.
In addition to being very happy with the accommodations, we enjoyed the amenities of the resort pools and access to a Key West beach that provided beach chairs and umbrellas. It was great to be able to drive to this particular beach concession and know that we would be accommodated as guests of Parrot Key. We really liked the fact that most of the resort pools were small and intimate.
I don't see this as a negative but you should be aware that Parrot Key is across the street from a shopping center and next door to a Walgreens. Amazingly, you don't feel your surroundings once you enter the resort property and having those conveniences nearby was a plus for us. If you don't mind using your car to get around Key West and appreciate a new accommodation with beautiful amenities, this is the right place for you to stay in Key West!
