Charming 10-room country house in the Tuscan hills a six-mile drive from Florence
In the Florentine hills, six miles from the Tuscan capital, Marignolle Relais & Charme is an intimate 10-room family-owned hotel. This converted farmhouse was originally built as a country retreat to escape the city heat and is now managed by the second generation of the Bulleri family. It's Italian to the core, with rustic fireplaces and large windows looking out over the garden, which is studded with cypresses, broom bushes and pine trees.
Bed & Bath
The 10 guestrooms (four of which are junior and superior suites) are appointed with antiques, parquet floors and spacious white tile bathrooms. Each is different, but the overall look is classic and refined, with period prints and floral fabrics. They all have air conditioning, large closets, free WiFi and tea- and coffeemaking facilities. All overlook the garden or the inner courtyard.
Head to the panoramic terrace for a glass of local Chianti. Thanks to the intimate size of the property, the terrace and the outdoor pool feel almost private. Guests who love Italian food (and who doesn’t?) can take part in a cooking class with owner Paola Bulleri to learn the secrets of traditional Tuscan cuisine. However, there's no restaurant on the premises. The property is a great base for exploring Tuscan treasures; the cities of Siena, Arezzo and Montepulciano, as well as the ancient Etruscan town of Volterra, are all just a one- to two-hour drive away.
In the Area
Chianti is a charming region of hills between Florence, Siena and Arezzo, and the hotel can help organize a wine tour. After a few glasses, go for a stroll in the medieval town of San Gimignano, known as the city of beautiful towers. In Florence the Uffizi Gallery is the one museum art lovers never get tired of. One of the oldest in the world, it houses some of the most important masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance. But the Accademia is where you can get close to Michelangelo’s David in a historic museum designed by Giorgio Vasari in the 1500s.
