Restored 19th-century townhouse with a rooftop bar and a killer location a five-minute stroll from the Duomo
A five-minute walk from the Duomo in the center of Florence, Hotel Cellai is a grand 19th-century heritage hotel with epic city views. The honey-colored exterior, private terrace, antique library and billiard room hark back to a golden age of high society glamour, and the lobby is kitted out with terra-cotta floors, vaulted wooden ceilings and original Tuscan artwork, as well as period furniture and chic recessed lighting. The 55 guestrooms are similarly elegant, with silk curtains, deep pile carpets and some midcentury flourishes to balance out the Old World vibe. Suites come with such extras as four-poster beds and free wine and fruit platters. A breakfast spread of cold cuts and homemade pastries is served in a lavish mirrored room on a long table decked out with silver candelabras. Kick back with a glass of bubbly and enjoy the breathtaking views from the roof garden, or explore the city’s hidden depths on a free bike available at reception upon request.
In the Area
The hotel's central location makes it easy to see the best of Florence. It’s just a five-minute stroll from cultural heavy hitters such as the Academy of Fine Arts (home to Michelangelo’s David) and the Duomo, as well as San Lorenzo, the biggest street market in the city. Fashion fans should make a beeline for the Gucci Museum, then sate their appetite for style at the nearby Boutique Nadine, an appealing hodgepodge of designer brands, up-and-coming labels and vintage accessories. End the day with a splurge at Trattoria Sostanza, purportedly the oldest restaurant in Florence.
