Overview

A Select Registry retreat on the longest Finger Lake, with beautiful water views and optional wine extras

The Lowdown

Your eyes are in for a treat at this getaway, which is a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence winner. The architecture of all the various buildings references charming traditional Northeastern styles, but the Inn at Taughannock’s 1873 Main Inn shows off elaborate Victorian ornamentation that evokes a real-life dollhouse. Off the grounds, continue to feast your eyes; you’re adjacent to Taughannock Falls State Park’s main cascade, which is taller than any others east of the Rockies, including those of Niagara.
You’re also just a short drive from downtown Ithaca, where 150 more waterfalls, plus Cornell’s stately ivy-draped campus, offer yet more picturesque scenery. But don’t forget to feast your tastebuds, too. Just near the Select Registry inn is the starting point of the Cayuga Wine Trail, encompassing an extensive variety of breweries, cideries, distilleries and wineries that have collectively won more than 6,000 national and international medals.

Rooms

Accommodations are distributed among four different buildings, including the historic Victorian Main Inn, where the restaurant is located. They’re individually designed and decorated, but all feature complimentary Wi-Fi, air conditioning and a refrigerator. You’ll be in the Edgewood building, where every room comes with a balcony that overlooks the lake. It also includes a convenient kitchenette.

Location

The Finger Lakes are a famously scenic region in central New York, and you’ll be perfectly placed to explore them. There’s plenty of shopping in the area, and winter visitors will enjoy the area skiing terrain. Drive to Ithaca for a wander around the Cornell campus or a look at one of the 150 waterfalls – though the soaring one at Taughannock Falls State Park (adjacent to the inn), which is the tallest east of the Rockies, upstages them all. Also consider following the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, home to an array of award-winning wineries, breweries and cideries.

STUNNING PROPERTY

We had such a lovely time at the Inn at Taughannock. We stayed in the old mansion house itself and were upgraded from the South Forrest to the South Lake room and it was a gorgeous room with period furniture, including a canopy bed, overlooking the lake. The property has both period rooms in the mansion house and modern rooms in the other buildings on site. The property also had a fire pit which was lovely at night. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Can't recommend enough!

Ithaca Finger Lakes Amazing Weekend Retreat

We arrived on Friday night after a pretty ride up from the NYC area. Our room was large and had a great view, very comfortable bed and large new bath. Had a drink at the fire pit on the porch outside the lovely little bar. Spent Saturday taking a walk from the inn up to Taughannock Falls, a 45 minute round-trip, and then another five minute walk over to the super nice park on the shore of Cayuga Lake. Dinner at the inn's restaurant was truly exceptional. Steaks, family recipe chicken parm, and fish were all excellent, as were the wines and the desserts. Also excellent continental breakfast buffet in the dining room with breathtaking views of Cayuga Lake. This place is a gem to which we will return.

Perfect Fingerlakes honeymoon retreat

We decided to take a trip up to Ithaca for our mini- honeymoon. When we got to the hotel after check-in hours the owners were still waiting for us to get us checked in and show us to our our room. When we got up to the room we saw that they had set out flowers, champagne and some tasty desserts for us to enjoy. The new owners had recently redone the rooms which were gorgeous and this included modernizing the bathrooms to include a wonderful rainfall shower. The owners recommended a wonderful place for the two of us to eat in Ithaca and it was the best meal we had while there! Our only regret is that we could not be there to try their dinner that they serve at the inn but the included breakfast was delicious. It’s a great location close to Taughannock falls and perfect if you want to take a few hikes while visiting.

Beautiful Inn and Great Staff

My fiance and I went up for a friend's wedding and stayed multiple nights at the Inn at Taughannock. The Inn is absolutely lovely, it has a classic Victorian feel with updates that fit right in. The owner clearly puts a lot of love into it. All of the staff there were cheerful and helpful at all times. We've stayed other places where it felt that we were an inconvenience, but not here. They were always happy to give advice about the local areas and the Inn itself. We'll absolutely be staying here the next time we visit Ithaca.
