Your eyes are in for a treat at this getaway, which is a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence winner. The architecture of all the various buildings references charming traditional Northeastern styles, but the Inn at Taughannock’s 1873 Main Inn shows off elaborate Victorian ornamentation that evokes a real-life dollhouse. Off the grounds, continue to feast your eyes; you’re adjacent to Taughannock Falls State Park’s main cascade, which is taller than any others east of the Rockies, including those of Niagara.
You’re also just a short drive from downtown Ithaca, where 150 more waterfalls, plus Cornell’s stately ivy-draped campus, offer yet more picturesque scenery. But don’t forget to feast your tastebuds, too. Just near the Select Registry inn is the starting point of the Cayuga Wine Trail, encompassing an extensive variety of breweries, cideries, distilleries and wineries that have collectively won more than 6,000 national and international medals.
Accommodations are distributed among four different buildings, including the historic Victorian Main Inn, where the restaurant is located. They’re individually designed and decorated, but all feature complimentary Wi-Fi, air conditioning and a refrigerator. You’ll be in the Edgewood building, where every room comes with a balcony that overlooks the lake. It also includes a convenient kitchenette.

The Finger Lakes are a famously scenic region in central New York, and you’ll be perfectly placed to explore them. There’s plenty of shopping in the area, and winter visitors will enjoy the area skiing terrain. Drive to Ithaca for a wander around the Cornell campus or a look at one of the 150 waterfalls – though the soaring one at Taughannock Falls State Park (adjacent to the inn), which is the tallest east of the Rockies, upstages them all. Also consider following the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, home to an array of award-winning wineries, breweries and cideries.
How to Get There
We spent just one night at the inn, and we were treated so well by the staff and the owner. We had a beautiful room, a very comfortable bed, and a lovely breakfast in the morning, overlooking Lake Cayuga. My husband and I really can't say enough good things about this special place, and look forward to going back in season when the restaurant is open since we heard so many great things about the food, too! Tiffany gave us a great recommendation for dinner and also prepared a local bottle of wine in an ice bucket for us to enjoy in our room. Many of the rooms have been updated in stunning detail - I enjoyed just looking around and simply being there. It's a wonderful place to visit, located near several great wineries, and there is also an amazing waterfall within walking distance as a bonus!
We stayed here for a family reunion. The accommodations were top-notch. We had the buffet at the restaurant every morning, a nice treat, especially the smoked salmon and capers. We also enjoyed a dinner at the same restaurant. Everything was good. The proximity to the lake and the hiking trails could not be beat. You can’t go wrong here. I hope I can come back.
Enjoyed a family gathering here recently for a weekend - we have been doing this for several years now and it is always the capstone to our year. It is beautiful, very comfortable, the food is always fantastic, and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Hands down my favorite place in the Finger Lakes, and a must stay if you are planning a trip to the area any time of year!
I can't say enough good things about the Inn at Taughannock! The staff was simply amazing, especially Tiffany! When we told her we were visiting for our Anniversary she made sure to recommend my husband's now favorite wine and really made us feel special on our day, she went way above and beyond!
The trail from the hotel to the falls was so nice to get to such a beautiful view.
We are excited to continue to make this our Anniversary destination!
My Husband and I wanted to take a long weekend getaway for our 5 year anniversary and for my birthday. I did a lot of research about where to stay at the Finger Lakes and presented the options to my husband; he chose The Inn. We could not have been more pleased with our selection. We arrived on Friday and the staff was overwhelmingly friendly. We had a few cocktails at the bar and Cheyanne could not have been more pleasant and accommodating. We then had dinner at the restaurant and the food and the service was outstanding-we were even treated with complimentary champagne for our anniversary! After dinner we sat by a fire out on the patio with some wine and met some other guests who were just as pleased as we were with the accommodations. We ended up on that patio every night of our stay meeting new people and just relaxing. We stayed in the Edgewood house room 85; the view was astounding and we could not get enough of it. We had brunch at the restaurant on Sunday and again it was phenomenal. Later that day we hiked the falls which are literally a pathway away and beautiful!! We ran into Gigi (manager) quite a few times during our stay and it is very apparent that she really makes every effort to ensure that all of the guests are pleased and well taken care of! It was such a great weekend and we can not wait to return next year and possibly make this trip a yearly tradition!
