Private Paradise Away From It All

I had the opportunity of a lifetime along with one of my long time friends to enjoy just a quick two day stay as we island hopped the Amazing Fiji Islands.

Just getting to this place is an adventure to say the least. Arriving by boat and wading just s short distance in the warm waters up the beach to a chorus of welcoming hosts that never stopped making sure you were enjoying your stay.

This place is not for those that need a television or even music in your room. Granted when you go to a place such as this you don't plan for the time you spend in your room which is over the top comfortable and authentic style Fijian furnishings. It would be nice to at least have a CD player and CD's for listening while in your room. It does rain quite a bit here which is why it's so beautiful and some Fijian music to enhance this experience would be an added benefit.

We had the opportunity of staying in two different bures thanks to Serili! The first one was #2 which has been redone and then #6 which has not. We actually much preferred the original style with the dark woods to the redone ones. The redone bure was bright white and at least for myself didn't have the same cozy, warm, Fijian-style feel to it. I loved the outdoor showers too in both.

That aside, I can't say enough about this property. It's naturally landscaped beautifully and blends in right up the side of the hills which is optimal in this tropical paradise.
The food and drink never disappointed. The place is beyond tranquil, peaceful and beautiful. Chickens and a few goats roam the peaceful, beautifully maintained gardens in and around the property. The views across the bay looking through swaying palm trees at an island on the other side. PARADISE!

We enjoyed every minute of our short stay. Again, thanks to Serili who must have been reading my mind helped arrange for a massage which was the best that I've ever had. I wish I could remember her name. She was amazing and know's her stuff!

We left with heavy hearts as we pulled away in the boat to the sounds of music from the staff on shore waving goodbye as if you truely are family.

Every staff member we came in contact with made us feel welcome!

I have to again give a big Thank You to Serili! He was family to us and made us feel special. The water-side dinner was one to remember and unexpected and welcomed.

Like you said, you never know as we might see one another again. I hope your right about that.

Your friends,
Charles and Hilton from California

Staying on a private island in the South Pacific has always been on our "must do" list. We struck gold when we stayed at Matangi Private Island Resort. From the moment we wadded ashore to a Fijian song of welcome we were treated as family. The accommodations really exceeded our expectations from the bedding to the outside shower. The twice daily housekeeping was expected but not the daily laundry service, something to keep in mind when you pack. Our lanai was exactly 15 steps from the waters edge and faced west so we enjoyed amazing sunsets. Being an all inclusive resort, you only pay for your alcohol, spa treatments and motorized activities, we assumed that the food would be "standard all- inclusive food" were we ever wrong. The quality was five star as was the service. Towards the end of our stay we skipped a breakfast or lunch so we could enjoy the amazing dinners without to much guilt. The waters around the island are amazingly clear and populated by creatures of every color of the rainbow. A trip to Horseshoe Bay to snorkel or picnic is mandatory. While the environment is one of a kind the reason we are planning to return is the staff. As I said the moment we step on the island we were treated as members of a large happy family, I didn't see a frown our whole stay. I want to recognized just a few of them starting with Sereli and Cecilla in front office, Tim in activities, Bale,Sera, Paulini and Koro in the resturant and Bibi and John behind the bar. There were a dozen more working behind the scenes and I want to thank them all again, Vinaka!
