Best hotel in Scotland! Always a warm welcome, amazing service from the moment you arrive. Tried the new leisure facilities which were excellent - better since they made a seperate on to the Spa. Dinner at the Road Hole is wonderful with incredible food, and that attentive service.

James Bond Themed Xmas Party Night
Reviewed 5 days ago

My wife and I were at the James Bond Xmas Party night at the Old Course Hotel on Saturday 8th December. We stay locally so did not book rooms but met up with 4 other family couples who were all staying as they had enjoyed the Party nights so much in previous years.
The night got of to a great start when I received a telephone call to tell us to arrive earlier as everybody had been upgraded to suites so we had a few drinks in the lovely rooms overlooking the golf course!
When we went downstairs to the function it was a bit confusing...we went to the ballroom where we had been in previous years only to find that the James Bond Themed Party was in another hall and there were two separate functions that night.........we got there eventually and had a table adjacent to the Disco.
To be honest, we have had far better food than we got that particular evening.....it was OK was the overall opinion from all around our table.....I think we all expected a bit better from the Old Course.....on one hand the room upgrades were fabulous..and then the food was a bit of a let down.
The Party got underway and the DJ played a great selection of songs throughout the evening to ensure that there was something for the young and the oldies. We don't need an excuse to enjoy a party so when I asked the DJ to play some Tamla Motown he did so within a few songs.
Overall it was a good night and everyone at our table enjoyed themselves.
Perhaps some better signage in the hotel re different Party Nights next year........and better portions on main course food and it would merit 5 stars!

Not 5 star and a poor themed dinner
Reviewed 1 week ago

Stayed for a Saturday night and a 'James Bond themed night'. (More later!)

Hotel is listed as 5 star but it's more of a 4 and a bit. The facilities may be there but the standards aren't.

Standard rooms are of a good size and on the plus side the bath is substantial but some elderly guests may struggle to get in and out such is it's depth.

Breakfast was adequate but only scrambled eggs available unless you want a la carte poached etc or omlettes. The hotel being full the previous night meant a 20 minutes wait for a table on 4th floor restaurant that was despite being told ground floor was open but it wasn't. We were recommended to go to the 4th floor because of the views. But surprise, no view unless you have one of window tables. I'd rather not have a view and been fed earlier.

Now we come to the shambolic themed james bond dinner, that wasn't!
A few balloons and an illuminated 007 sign does not constitute a themed anything. To add insult to injury the staff had no clue what anyone had ordered and we had to tell them individually. They didn't even have a table list.

Starter was very good, but most main courses indifferent and some didn't even get the vegetarian option they pre-ordered! Dessert was a complete let down and bore no resemblance to any pear parfait or bread and butter pudding I've ever seen!

The DJ....rude, arrogant and ignorant. He couldn't even be bothered to make effort to dress for the event. He even argued with guests who were paying his wages.. ! We tried in vain to rescue some semblance of credibility by asking for a few more bond themes in a pathetic attempt to improve the lot of our guests who had forked out £65 per head. He wasn't interested!

We have had much better value and better quality from 4 star venues elsewhere and I won't be going back even if someone else is paying! I believe it all falls under the heading of captive audience!

Perfect 10/10

Beautiful room overlooking 18th green of old course. Perfectly located walking distance to town, plenty restaurant options, service was excellent in every way. Spa & gym were excellently appointed with latest equipment. Seriously an excellent experience & we even had perfect weather too!

Wasn’t worth the money

Went for afternoon tea it wasn’t worth the money which was already prepaid and yet they said we still owed more money. Sorry but there was no WOW factor for this amount to be charged. Suggest you try more. We’re we were sitting it was freezing.
