How to Get There
I’m sitting in the bar on the 4th floor. They have NO beer on tap / The bar staff can’t recommend any beer that is similar to Caledonia other than Guinness- that is so different - they haven’t any grapefruit juice anywhere in the hotel nor in their pub (The Jigger), so I can’t have a HillyBilly. So, my question is “why is this hotel so great”?
Returned for the 12th consecutive year for a week long corporate event. There was a mix up with my room on arrival and had to have alternative room for one night but this was resolved smoothly the next day. Had fantastic views over the famous Road Hole in a lovely Old Course room. Finally got full mirrors!
In the main service was excellent however we did have a dissapointing evening meal in the Road Hole restaurant.
Breakfast can be a little chaotic, perhaps a stronger hand at the helm driving the troops would help?
We had some great meals throughout the week, some in the hotel restaurants and some in the various function rooms.
Service was superb throughout the week with special mentions going to Grant from the management team (brilliant all week!) and Jerry and Alex in the Road Hole Bar whose service was simply outstanding!
We played golf most days up st the Dukes course where General Manager David Scott and his team did a sterling job of looking after us!
We had a superb week all round, and alreay looking forward to July 2020 when we'll return.
We arrived June 24 after a rainy travel weary drive from Edinburgh. We were overwhelmed with the hotel on arrival. Peter, whisked me to reception to meet Allison who was pleasant and informative of the amenities of the hotel... Peter and Sandi had the luggage in our room and the car valeted before we could blink The service is impeccable.
After a tourist day we settled into the Sands for a light dinner.. We just wanted salads as we had had rich food during the day... Jacob took care of us well and the sticky toffee pudding was EXCELLENT!
In the morning the breakfast was WONDERFUL all we could want and more with the view of the course... Nora was helpful as our server and the whole atmosphere was relaxing... The bonus was the weather had cleared and we were able to see the rest of the sites of St Andrews center, and the extent of the beautiful course.
