If you’re looking for a stylish sand-and-sea combo with a fair few tee times thrown in, this beach and golf resort delivers. But what’s so special about this four-star property comes largely down to its location in the picturesque fishing village of Alvor. You’ll be right on the Algarve’s western coast, just a stone’s throw from the sugar-soft golden sands and Atlantic waters of Praia d’Alvor.
An upscale vibe is apparent throughout, but most obvious in the stylish guest rooms. All tempt with colourful on-trend décor, statement-making feature walls, and furnished balconies. On the dining front, there’s a lovely restaurant for Portuguese and international cuisine, plus a few laid-back bars for day-to-night eats and treats.
Elsewhere, you’ll find an outdoor pool, heavenly spa, well-equipped gym, tennis courts and enough on- and off-site activities to keep you busy from dawn till dusk. The choice of five golf courses isn’t bad either. Pestana Dom João II bagged a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
How to Get There
Fantastic hotel and staff lots of room in the gardens/pool area, right on the beach, food was Portuguese and wonderful we ate in for five of the seven nights. Alvor is a 20 minute walk along the boardwalk or 15 minutes by road lots of restuarants and bars that stay open late, great entertainment, fantastic food. Played 5 of Pestana courses all very good.
Booked a sea view and didn't get one. Offered an alternative with an even worse view. Plagued by flies with little help from staff. Breakfast table clearing very poor with guests clearing there own tables for a table.
I am so disappointed we paid for an upgrade for a nice balcony with side sea view , we looked on to a concrete roof , the sun loungers and table and chairs were damaged and dirty , the balcony looked awful , we didn’t use it once . The hotel was nice but not a 4 star, the pool and surrounding gardens are stunning and the beach is so close , but the balcony really let it down
lovely hotel with very helpful staff. the pool area and gardens were very relaxing.the beautiful beach had maintenance work going on (which is good to see) but there was plenty of room for everyone. the wonderful boardwalk has great views.
Nice family holiday overall. The location is excellent. Pool area, gardens and gym was excellent. We didn’t use the restaurant as we were in a villa and either made meals there or ate out. The villa itself was fine. 2 bedrooms. Kitchen was small but well equipped. Fold out Couch in living area is really more of a bed. Has no back on it. Not a good place to sit in the evenings etc. we had an issue with ants despite the room being cleaned daily and us being very careful with food and crumbs etc.
beds were just ok. Woke with a stiff lower back most days.
Cleaning staff did a good job every day. Oceano snack bar is located well but we found the service slow, food just ok and quite expensive. Other places along the boardwalk better overall.
We had a great holiday but we were expecting more from this hotel. Cobbled paths and roads all needed attention. Trip hazard for young kids and the elderly
