If you’re looking for a stylish sand-and-sea combo with a fair few tee times thrown in, this beach and golf resort delivers. But what’s so special about this four-star property comes largely down to its location in the picturesque fishing village of Alvor. You’ll be right on the Algarve’s western coast, just a stone’s throw from the sugar-soft golden sands and Atlantic waters of Praia d’Alvor.
An upscale vibe is apparent throughout, but most obvious in the stylish guest rooms. All tempt with colourful on-trend décor, statement-making feature walls, and furnished balconies. On the dining front, there’s a lovely restaurant for Portuguese and international cuisine, plus a few laid-back bars for day-to-night eats and treats.
Elsewhere, you’ll find an outdoor pool, heavenly spa, well-equipped gym, tennis courts and enough on- and off-site activities to keep you busy from dawn till dusk. The choice of five golf courses isn’t bad either. Pestana Dom João II bagged a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
How to Get There
Lovely hotel with rooms with beautiful sea views.
The 5th floor is amazing.
Close to Alvor center - walk out and a taxi home - 5 Euro with tip.
Breakfast was varied with homemade omelet, waffles, wine.
Average facilities in need of some internal updating but gardens and pool area together with its Location are good, Breakfast and evening meals are reasonable but choice us limited, prices in the bar are high
We spent 3 weeks in the Dom Joao 11. We had a wonderful time.Room was cleaned every day .Lady who cleaned room very friendly . Exceptional breakfast. Fruit especially oranges were delicious. Staff very friendly.Garden was peaceful, a perfect place to relax . Perfect distance from Alvor. Lovely walk on boardwalk. We love this hotel
We have just spent a week at this hotel. Positives: great value (EasyJet holiday) good location, lovely gardens, well-appointed rooms with exceptionally comfy beds, efficient and friendly cleaning staff. Not so positive: 'hot food' at breakfast was not hot, location of shower in bathroom troublesome (impossible to turn on without standing under it) pricey drinks, no kettles available ( why not, at the very least, have them available to hire?) It was a shame that drinks were twice the price of nearby bars and cafes or we would have spent more money in the hotel.
Great location with excellent sea views from the 5th floor. Worth paying the extra for a room with a sea view. Good sized rooms and comfortable beds. Rather strange clear glass panel between the bathroom and bedroom. Also the artwork on the wall was truly awful. Breakfast fine. Staff helpful. Maybe a little tired in places but still the feel of a 4* Hotel.
